Ms Blueberry
Since the Brexit vote, we've made an extra effort to support the local immigrants who've contributed to ED's greatness. And Boulangerie Jade's cakes and breads are great. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/118480-boulangerie-jade/ Share on other sites

DovertheRoad
It's tough out there people. Keep it "safe". In fact when the world is going to shit, being able to extract and appreciate moments of joy is arguably more important than ever. Jeremy
Not sure whether a successful local business need our charity/sanctimony, but yes their cakes and pastries are excellent.Although the past THREE times we've tried to go in, they've been shut with a notice on the door saying "opening 1hr late today" or whatever... so they should probably get some extra help, or publish more realistic opening times! Robert Poste's Child
French people are not immigrants: while the EU remains they have a right to be here if they want. Michael Palaeologus
French people are immigrants. They are not illegal immigrants. When did the word "immigrant" denote illegality? Other than in the Mail and Mirror. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/118480-boulangerie-jade/#findComment-1034914 Share on other sites
Robert Poste's Child
Bit puritanical to call them immigrants: they're exercising their right to be here. Migrants, if you really can't resist pigeonholing. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/118480-boulangerie-jade/#findComment-1034916 Share on other sites

Admittedly "immigrant" has become a pejorative term for the right, but I can't see what's puritanical about it. Louisa
So were the Huguenot minority of the 18th/19th century, who settled much of the old 'East end' considered immigrants, refugees or expats?Louisa. I'd say the Huguenots were essentially refugees, in that they were forced unwillingly to leave their home country because conditions had become intolerable there. Proud to claim descent from them via my paternal ancestry! red devil
Make that 3. One of my older brothers traced our Dad's side of the family tree back to the Hugenots.
