PeckhamRose
When I get work doing what I trained to do and love as an actor, it is nothing but pleasure which is why so many of us will do it for free. When I get work doing humanist funeral celebrant work, it is an honour - the money is less than hourly wage so I certainly don't do it for the money. When I am doing my other occasional work which means I get to go round all of London on my motorcycle, the work itself is not so much fun but the motorcycling and seeing so much of different corners of all of London is brilliant. Let's see - what else do I do for work - oh that'll do for now. Being self employed does have its advantages! Brendan
I find it deeply suspicious when people profess to love their jobs. If you wouldn?t much rather be drunk and naked on a beach in the Caribbean than at work you are either mental or up to something or both. Unless of course your job involves being drunk and naked on a beach in the Caribbean. Cassius
Work is the pain - the money it earns buys the pleasure........... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11735-work-pleasure-or-pain/#findComment-331488 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
What Cassius said. Work is a necessary evil to be able to enjoy and afford the pleasures in life. Whether that be lying on a beach drunk and naked like Brendan in the Carribean is entirely up to you but that sure sounds good to me. Jeremy
And so it should be.I always think that anyone who says they "enjoy" their job must have a really crap social life and no interests. jalapeno
Negative, negative! I "enjoy" my job very much and socialising plays a heavy part. It's very rewarding on many levels regardless of the crazy deadlines.I wouldn't think of a career change at any age till retirement.:) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11735-work-pleasure-or-pain/#findComment-331564 Share on other sites
cactus
Definitely pleasure, and hey presto I have a social life and interests.I had a technical/editing tv job in my 20's & early 30's, and now I've retrained and havea more creatrive career which should see me into old age, can't imagine retiring, and probablywon't be able to afford to anyway. Unless I want live in a tiny flat with a one bar electric fire in old age! brum
I've been lucky to have had a very enjoyable, exciting career in the fire service. And the best bit is I can retire at a young enough age to relax naked on a caribean beach without being mistaken for a wrinkly old walrus. DJKillaQueen
There's a French movie called 'L'Homme Qui Aime Les Femmes' in which a man is told by his doctor that work was only invented to stop us having sex all day! expat
I have always been happy with my jobs, sure they have had moments where is was not all fun but so what.I feel sorry for the people who does not like their job given how much time is spend on them. If you would ratherbe on a beach why not sell all your assets and move to Goa or some such?
