i find pizza boring and don't see the point in it, but who cares what I think when the local area has multiple restaurants & takeaways all serving up variants of the same basic food type, all busy, all doing well. That's what counts. Same applies to Indian.

Don't go there then and stop moaning about it..

Old Jaflong.. 30 + seats .. New Jaflong (Tandoori) 60 + seats with larger kitchen and facilities..

Larger dining area with private dining catered for including weddings.. and the like..

So not just a relocation. It's a upgrade to a better larger establishment.

Good luck to them in their new location..

Yes.. I did put sea(t)ing missing out the (t)

I was asked my opinion on a selection of materials / colours and I choose an elegant black which I hope people will like.

Not that many people will be looking at the seats. :)

The restaurant should open on time but without some of the finishing touches as the owner Ali has had to go

to Bangladesh due to an illness in the family.

Why on earth would they open another one on Lordship Lane?

I know the first one has done very well, but I can't see there would be room for two?

I could see they might want bigger premises, but after all the time and trouble and expense it took to sort out their existing premises, I can't see them moving at the moment either.

Where did you get this information from?

Sue I would argue that the group which owns Franco Manca, Fulham Shore (who also own smaller chain 'The Real Greek'), are possibly looking to invest further in East Dulwich, and may well want to expand another brand of theirs into the neighbourhood. Can't see them opening a second Franco Manca though.

So it's not in fact a second Franco Manca then? I

I live opposite, but the sneak peak of the 'new' interior puts me right off.

I'll probably pop in for a takeaway now and then, but I can't imagine wanting to dine in, especially with that big old cabinet sat there, ready to stew food for hours on their all you can eat buffet day.

The previous Chinese / Eastern restaurant had very few eat in diners, just a handful on the weekend and always empty midweek. So I thing Jaflong will really need to raise their game, if they want to become a destination restaurant, outside of Lordship Lane.

I find black seating very good to fart on as I tuck into my lamb stew spicy (with bread) mixture

I do hope Ali's OK tho

Good luck to the team there, generic or not, it's a punt for their business

I'll give it a try, even tho it looks a little bit dull for my liking.

What dishes should I go for? I like a bit of heat, bread, and some meat, but not creamy.

With Cobra beer it's nice.

Had a tour of the kitchen this morning..

Sparkling extractors which were left in an absolutely disgusting state from the previous owners and took a lot of cleaning..

New gas range and Tandoor. Cold room..

Chefs coming in tonight to get things up and running and start food preps. for opening on Thursday evening..

Had a chat about staff clothing colours and outside signage . Maybe a little too much advertising..

Sunday Buffet pricing probably better on A-Board. ??

Well... it's v local to me, and the previous occupant (Eastern Delight) was really awful... just terrible, crappy food. So despite my slight misgivings, anything is an improvement. Good luck to them, and respect for taking a punt to expand their business.

Not even remotely ..

I went last night.. and there were a couple of Curry Club people there..

It was VERY crowded so we went for the Mini Buffet that was also on offer. Not the usual Sunday Buffet

but we got popadoms and Naan bread. It was extreemly hot in there last night and we had to go outside to cool down.

So we did not stay long but I understand they did not close until 01.30 this morning..

The menu was the same menus were from the old Jaflong..

Just say Mr. Mick recommend them to you.. ;-)

  • 2 weeks later...
We went for the first time this evening. The service was friendly, if over-attentive on asking us if we wanted poppadoms (three times) and slightly under-attentive in taking our order and serving. The food was fine, but I'm baffled why they have exactly the same menu as their sister restaurant on LL. I'm not one to moan about 'all the curry houses in East Dulwich', but it seems to me there's a huge opportunity for a more modern take on Indian food in ED ? tapas-style small plates, special tastings and food/drink pairings, a bar etc etc. There was talk of the former Veer Zara going that way, but that's clearly not happening now. Very frustrating, as it seems like an open goal.

I thought that the new Jaflong Tandoori would have a different menu but they took the chef with them so

it would seem the menu will not change. It is a Bangladeshi restuarant as opposed to Indian.

I was a bit dissapointed by that..

The Old Jaflong has a new chef who worked there for a while before the move. The food was a little different

but also very good. I remarked that I thought it was a different chef.

The Jaflong deal seems to be going ahead.. No.. I'm not buying it.. :)

These things take time.

The place replacing Veer Zara Xoco Bar & Grill is supposedly awaiting a new Drinks Licence. ??

    • My annoyance Is with the fact that the gym is being closed for 5 weeks for refurbishment but we dont have an option to freeze our membership if the only facility we use is the gym. Apparently Peckham gym is closed at the same time for refurbishment which I think is pretty stupid. Therefore the nearest gym for all the members from ED leisure centre and Peckham leisurecentre is the one in Camberwell . I lament the everyone active days..at least I could attend gyms near to work and outside Southwark
