Had a stroll down EDR this afternoon and noticed the former Chinese buffet place next to Rose's fish and chip shop is about to become Jaflong Indian-Asian buffet (new sign up and work going on inside). Looks nice a good prices too from what I could see (prices are written up on the signage). Have these people left LL? I'm sure they had a restaurant there.

Never had cause to give Jaflong a bad review.. Why would I of continued to use them for years if I had. ?

I VERY seldom give bad reviews about any particular restaurant.. I don't actually use many of them.

If memory serves you fell out with them after they complained to you because they saw you in another restaurant?

No.. There was conflict over an interview with a local paper with one restaurant and a supposed FREE review and an inclusion of a Half page ad. for another restaurant.

The half page Ad. was not Free but a PAID Ad.

I sort of got in the middle of it all.

That is all I can say here on the matter..

Absolutely not. I did not give a review to anyone about any restaurant.

Someone supposedly from a local paper visited Jaflong (2-3 years ago)took photos and offerd a free Ad.

The Ad did not appear .. but a Half page Ad for an other restaurant did. That was a PAID Ad.

That's all..

Are you drunk.. I had absolutely nothing to do with any Ad.

I did not speak to any one. I did not take.. supply .. feature in any picture..

I did not speak to any paper .. reporter..

I eat in most of the Indian restaurants with the Curry Club and independantly.

all this started because SUE wrote.

Which is Total B*****ks..

As far as I can make out 2-3 years on, Jaflong were scammed by a fake reporter..

and I know no details. Perhap they paid for what they thought was a 'Genuin'Ad that did not appear.

Then the other Ad appeared so Jaflong were angry they had been duped.

Hope that helps.

Living up this end of ED, having a curry house very locally is welcome.

If Jaflong continues to allow BYOB then that should benefit the liquor sales in the Londis and Hop Burns & Black either side.

Perhaps also the Fire Ices ice-cream shop if people dont fancy a sorbet in a coconut shell.

Good to see some changes on the Lane with the Jaflong site becoming available and the corner site opposite yet to open.

Never been a huge fan of Jaflong, but the ability to drink fancy beer with my dinner does sound tempting.

Fabulous Ice Fires is excellent, really love their ice cream, but I don't think it's open in the evening. Would be nice to see some of our local Indian restaurants do a proper dessert, rather than just the usual rubbish.

It was a restaurant across the road from Jafflong, if that helps.

ETA: Or very close to Jafflong, anyway, because they could see it from their place :)

ETA: Or perhaps I have totally dreamed the conversation? Don't think so, though, to the best of my knowledge I have never dreamed about you, Fox. Yet :))

    • According to what I can see online, Dynamic Vines and Cave de Bruno sell totally different kinds of wine to each other.  Dynamic Vines  "work with independent winemakers who produce outstanding wine using sustainable practices in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the cellar".  Cave de Bruno specialises in French wines and spirits from small independent producers. So two different USPs, and no doubt two different but overlapping customer bases who can afford these wines. Probably different again to the people mainly  shopping for wine at Majestic or the Co op. On the other hand, the two empanada shops appear on the face of it to be selling virtually identical products. But time will tell, won't it? Let's see how they are both doing in - say - a couple of years' time. Impossible, of course, to compare that with how they would have done if there had been only one of them. I just feel more  sorry for the original one than for  the one which can apparently already afford to have a number of shops in places like Mayfair and Highgate. I'm tempted to buy something there every week, and I don't even like that kind of pastry 🤣
    • Not only can he turn olive oil into Vermouth, but also water into a wine. A true miracle worker.  I wouldn't say a wine shop sells a wide variety of things - and there are two right next to each other.  And once upon a time, upmarket pizza shops were very specific. So were burritos etc. These Argentinian cornish pasties are clearly becoming mainstream; we should consider ourselves lucky to be witnessing this exciting upward trend within our lifetimes and on OUR HIGH STREET. We can tell our grandkids that we remember when there was no internet and no empanadas.  I'm sure that if the family empanada people have a good business head, they'll be able to ride this wave of competition, just like Bruno has.
    • Very economical. Are you available for events? I've got a gathering of 5000 coming up soon. What could you knock up with two little fishes and five loaves of bread? Cod in breadcrumbs? Fish finger sandwiches? Spanish-style croquetas de bacalao with a Romesco sauce? It's BYOB for beer, so there's no need to worry about that and I've managed to do an unbelievable deal on water and wine. Drop me a DM on here or ask for Dave or Jesus (pronounced 'Hay-Zooze') in The Herne, left hand side of the bar.
