apenn
Has anyone else had the experience of a baby who will drink fresh (refridgerated) expressed breastmilk but refused to take frozen and then defrosted milk? I can only surmuse that it must change the taste or some other property.-A Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11320-rejecting-defrosted-milk/ Share on other sites

Dulwich Born And Bred
When my son did take breastmilk for a short while at the beginning, he did not like frozen milk either, though he was fine with milk that has been in the fridge, but I noticed that frozen milk has a rather soapy smell whereas milk that has been stored in the fridge smelt fine. womanofdulwich
MIne were fine with it- maybe the ice cube tray has got a smell to it though? Why don't you try using normal milk and see if that tastes different using the same method, to iron out any problems. apenn
Thanks for the advice ladies, and for the links Fuschia. I haven't notice a soapy smell, but I do suspect that my milk goes off somewhat quickly. I have stored milk both in the fridge and freezer in Lansinoh storage bags, so I don't think the storate method can be what is affecting it. Luckily it's not a necessity at the moment, but I will try scalding to see if it makes a difference and it's a lipase issue. Thanks again!-A Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11320-rejecting-defrosted-milk/#findComment-324883 Share on other sites
LI
I had the lipase issue. I found that as long as the milk had been frozen soon after pumping, my baby would take it as long as I defrosted it just before feeding using hot water. ie if I left it to defrost in the fridge it was rejected. That's because I froze a lot before I worked out I had to scald it!
