jaybee82 - funny topic!

A few years ago I used to have a contact at work that I never got to meet in person. His name was 'Rob Storm'.

So.......every time we spoke on the phone, I couldn't help but visualise him in a superhero costume :-S

*imagines RS in extremely tight-fitting black lycra tights and leotard with a fluorescent yellow lightning bolt emblazoned across the chest*

ps. Rob, if you're reading this. Sorry.

Recently interviewed a Glen Gaydar. His business partner was Dr Kariyuki-prnounced karaoke. Plus as a lamentably un-pc black person, I invite you to google the name of the guy who may become Nigeria's new vice president. Also google the name of the joint gas/oil project that country has set up with Russia's Gazprom. Shame on me.
I know of someone who keeps a list of interesting patient names we come into contact at work (a local Emergency Dept) because their local I really can't share any full names on here, but we've seen some stunners - have seen several Channel's when I think their parents were aiming for Chanel!

yes the Danish oil company is called DONG it stands for Dansk Olie og Natur Gas makes perfect sense really.

'slut' og 'slutspurt' are other Danish words which seems to cause some hilarity.

A story, perhaps not true, is that the English Queen visited Denmark and they put stickers on the lifts she was going to use as all Danish lifts have signs saying 'i fart'

    • Pyracantha? Covered in white flowers and pollinators in the summer followed by berries for the birds. Can be a bit of a thug though so you have to keep on top of pruning it through the thorns!
    • The last Guardian version of The Observer is this Sunday. Will anybody read the new Tortoise version? They’ve been quiet about publicising it or saying how you might subscribe to it or anything practical like that.
    • On the matter of gender, raised early in the thread There were a couple of male tailors in the area, first generation Carribbean, I think there was a time when many emigrated with these skills  Go back 60 years and you may have had a suit made by a Jewish male tailer in the East End  Not sure if it is common to have males in this field of work nowadays although I expect Saville Row is still male dominated.
    • I was at Brockwell Park greenhouses very recently, they don't have any plants for sale which are suitable for my purpose (though that's not why I went there). I'd be very surprised if the Marsden Road place did either, as I need a fairly large prickly shrub! Thanks, I used the term nursery a bit too loosely, sorry. I did mean including garden centres. Your post is useful, thanks.  I'm not looking for anything unusual though, just a prickly shrub to deter cats! Much as I love unusual plants, I only have a very small garden. Many of my plants (some unusual and some I had had for years) have disappeared due to wood  pigeons trampling everything under my bird feeders in their quest to eat anything edible dropped by smaller birds using the feeders 😭
