char1ie
Melbourne Grove has previously flooded. I have seen pictures of a music studio in the street that was destroyed by rising rainwater.Charlie Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1124-should-someone-be-building-noahs-ark-in-se22/#findComment-29375 Share on other sites
ruffers
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/flood/ if that's any help SE22 should basically be OK. Living up the hill on the Upper East Side I'm smugly confident though:)). SeanMacGabhann
what ruffers said (even allowing for pride coming before a fall and all)Us Upper East Siders have got the library, the Plough and Vals + a hardware store - if we get flooded up here then there is a bigger problem with the world than just SE22(Although I also took the precaution of a first floor flat ;-) ) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1124-should-someone-be-building-noahs-ark-in-se22/#findComment-29383 Share on other sites
macroban
The lowest point in East Dulwich is the Grove Vale depression at about 57 feet above sea level.Depressions collect water, but there is the storm drain. mockney piers
It must have got blocked a couple of years back as there was a big flood (about 3-4 ft deep under the railway bridge) about 3 years ago, but a drop in the ocean (ho ho ho) compared to the floods in Riley, Sheffield, Tewkesbury et al. macroban
The photos of the Grove Vale flash flood were fascinating - a good reason not to buy a flat at the Toilet Block. But, I think the storm drain worked fine, otherwise the flooding would have backed up to the Goose Green roundabout. I suspect the Grove Vale depression street drains were blocked. Perhaps they had not been cleaned out regularly.
