Foxy, breaking news. Your country was never ruled by Brussels.

Brussels had no say when we invaded Iraq.

Brussels had no say when we started to privatise huge swathes of land and pubic buildings dedicated to education, by "academising" 100s of our schools.

Brussels had no say when we tried to impose an unacceptable change of contract upon our junior doctors.

Brussels has no say in our policing, in our criminal justice system, in the level of our income tax, national insurance, on our budget, on our monetary policy. Brussels does not set our interest rates or tell the BoE how much reserve currency to buy.

Brussels tells us we have to use low energy light bulbs, and prohibits us from forcing people to work more than 48 hours a week, and bans us from discriminating against each other on the grounds of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability.....

Enough already! You keep saying the same thing. You are wrong.

Also, what weak and spineless government would that be? Thatcher when she said no and won us a rebate? Major when he said no to parts of the Maastricht treaty? We are not part of the Euro or Shenghen because we said no. we also said no to tariffs on Chinese steel and to many other things.

You are showing how little you know on how Brussels actually works Fox.

Foxy is in the majority in the country, though.

"Take control" won the day. Even now, what is Boris saying? People didn't vote Leave to prevent immigration (yeah, right), they just wanted to "take back control of our laws".

We have control over our laws!!! FFS he is still lying. Will someone get a lawyer on the telly to put these xxxxxxxxx straight?

My parents have been moaning about Brussels "telling us what to do" all my life. It seems to have entered the national consciousness of everyone born before 1970. Brussels is in control, Brussels in control, Brussels is in control.

What my parents mean, of course, is that the EU "forced" us to decimalise and got rig of "old money".

But the slogan still sticks.

Brussels was not in control of us. Not until last Friday morning, when we handed them control of our post article 50 future.

It's just ridiculous, how far from reality leave is.

Foxy doesn't understand how Brussels and the EU works - once we had a powerful voice and a powerful veto vote in the EU that helped protect the UK from any trade deals that were not in the UKs best interest - if our UK negotiators were poor, then the deal was poor, not because the EU was 'bad' but because the UK representatives made a poor decision.... With no voice and no veto, decisions about how we can sell or buy from the EU will not be under our control.

But to be fair to Foxy, just over 50% of the voting public in this EU referendum also didn't understand. Some now do and have changed their mind about voting out. I'm not sure Foxy really believes that today the UK is a better place to live and work for British citizens, Spanish nurses, German Doctors, children of migrant workers, Polish pensioners who flew British planes in WW2, people coming up to their retirement who have a private pension based on stocks and shares etc. etc. than it was last Sunday and probably much worse.

Working Mummy - I was born before 1970. My Mum is 77 and voted remain too. Plenty of people in Boston Lincs under 35 voted out - see we do need to be a bit careful about generalisations. But yes unfortunately out vote more likely in the

older generation who were also more likely to vote and remain vote more likely in the younger who unfortunately were less likely to vote.

Foxy doesn't understand fuck all . And after a while you'll get fed up of even trying to reSon with him, he's just an idiot on social media who unfortunately gets to vote in referendums too despite post after post showing he knows absolutely nothing about govt, the EU, anything - but that's democracy folks

I?m not a frequent user of the ED forum, I lost my cat once and potsed and also made a few other posts but don?t much frequent the forum (like that?s relevant, but you never know).

But I have been so upset about the results of the referendum that I wanted to say I am a born and bred Londoner.

I went to a local comprehensive School in the 70?s.

I remember the National Front and as a young person in late 70?s and early 80?s campaigned against the hate and ignorance.

The NF disappeared, but the hate filled sentiments as it would seem have not (going on national reports) and thought/hoped that those grim days were behind us.

My partner is Jamaican second generation, I am proud of my families multi-cultural ties (my nieces are both married to non UK partners) and I have many friends from different cultural backgrounds, religions, beliefs and countries.

The thought that this ignorant attitude still prevails is saddening and sickening. I thought we had an education system that educate the ignorant and taught tolerance and Respect, but sadly no. Parents are the primary educators.

I was on a 343 at midday today.

There were two white women sat in front of me with a young mixed race child in a buggy.

This is the conversation.

?Does she go to nursery??

?No?

?But isn?t there some free funding I?ve heard about so you get some child care for nothing?

?I don?t know, I think her mum applied but didn?t meet the criteria?

?What criteria??

?I don?t know, she?s not got any disability or special needs. She?s not Muslim or nothing?

?And they wonder why we?re racist?

I was shocked at what I heard. I wanted to say something and wish I had (I chickened it) but thought you stupid, stupid. Ignorant idiots.

What is happening? Are people so ignorant?

Have we gone back 40 years?

Personally I don't think we have. I think we moved on but maybe not that much. Which is so sad.

NB; Anyone can access the criteria for funded places on local Government websites which absolutely does not refer to anything more than eligibility based on income etc., and not race, religion, culture etc.Just in case said Women are reading ED forum.

So... today I tweeted the links I'd earlier mentioned here, with a similar message urging people to log xenophobic incidents with #PostRefRacism and report them to the police via http://www.report-it.org.uk/report_a_hate_crime ...and someone unknown to me quickly tweeted the reply 'Be a nark for Brussels', together with a rather sinister photo (don't know how to post it here, but perhaps that's for the best) of a carload of armed riot police and the caption: "BE A POLICE GRASS. Snitch on friends, family, neighbours, colleagues - everyone. Inform on your fellow Britons today!" I'm left feeling - as they clearly hoped I would - upset, threatened, isolated, scared. A small taste of what others are going through.

This is exactly how I feel. We've lost the only control or influence we actually had - we won't get any say under even a modified Norway model - and people seem to think that's a good thing.

What planet are you on?

This thread is about the increase in overt racism since Friday.

I'm a paid up member of the Labour Party and I've spent much of my working life in jobs related to combating racism.

And yes I am ashamed of my country, and reading the posts on here has made me even more ashamed.

How dare you.

I was a Active member of the Labour Party . I was at the meeting when Tessa Jowel was selected..

I rejected the Labour Party when Tony Blair sanctioned the invasion of Iraq ..

..and still tries to justify it today even though we now know it was based on lies..

Never voted Labour since..

Won't be voting for Corbyn ..

And what does that have to do with this thread, or the points people have made? Or are you just wanting to assert yourself again?

I swear sometimes you seem to go clear off the tracks....

It was in reply..

So dont just Knock the fox for the sake of it.. Read all the posts..

DF

I did read all the post. I saw what you'd said.

I'm trying to work out why engaging in a game of "I'm more Labour than you" is relevant to the original point of this thread. It just looks like you can't or won't respond to the other points, so resort to the only thing you feel you can say.

So I've actually answered my own question, it was just you asserting yourself again.

The Leave campaign pledged to give the NHS ?350m per week, which they have subsequently backtracked on...ergo a whopping great porky pie. Does this mean you will do likewise?...

The Leave campaign were never in a position to give the NHS ?350m only the government can do that and

both major parties Lab & Con were for remaining.. I never suggested that that money could be used for The NHS

I was opposed to handing over ANY money to Brussels.

When people talk about Fare Dodgers costing TFL Millions of pounds a year .. Money they say could be spent on new buses and Trains.

We all know that money would never actually be spent on Buses and Trains..

Your post relating to jumping on the bandwagon and part-time socialists was in response to mine (or at least was immediately after it) where all I said was that I too was ashamed of this country.

And now you're off on some other irrelevant track. FFS.

Foxy the 350 mil was a total lie from day one.

I think the point many are making specifically on this thread, is that overt racism as a consequence of the referendum result has dramatically increased. There is clear evidence that is that case. I don't think anyone is suggesting that they have only just noticed now that racism exists, that's not the point at all. This brexit result has allowed for some very unsavoury hidden nastiness to rear its ugly head.

I feel very part to blame for this whole mess, and it is shameful.

Louisa.

Lou.. Congrats on you new Forum freedom..

There are those who will use events like The referndum, Football matches, Peaceful demos to cause trouble..

These people are not going to get much support from the majority of leave campaigners.

It is shocking that we have these people in our society but like I said, they have always been there in the background.

It's important to put these people in their place when you hear racist, sexist, homophobic comments.

Confront them.. People do and thats why the racists generally keep quiet when on their own..

We now have a good oportunity to build a stronger UK. and to build close relationships with all UK residents

whatever their colour, race , creed.

We are free to build new trade deals with the rest of the world.

Staying in the E.U. would mean nothing would change. Its now a time for change.

A difficult but exciting time lays ahead of us.. but we now need to pull together.

DulwichFox

I saw this new form of legitimised racism in action today, Lordship Lane Co-op, when a man in the queue in front of me "jokingly" said "we won't have this problem once they've all gone home" whilst nodding towards a person with an accent asking for assistance with the "unexpected item in the bagging area" problem we all know and love.

What shocked me most was the fact that others in the queue laughed.
