Foxy, you know I respect your valued opinions on this forum, and I would never knowingly undermine you. But on this one you are wrong I'm afraid. Sometimes it's better to hold your hands up and just admit, look I've got it wrong.


We have been lied to on this and I honestly believe we will come to regret our decision.

Early election..?


Under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 there are only two ways to get an early General Election 1] Under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 only a motion explicitly resolving "That this House has no confidence in Her Majesty's Government" is treated as a motion of no confidence which, if carried, triggers a general election. A government can lose a vote of no confidence by a majority of just over 50%, requiring it to resign. Parliament will be dissolved if no new government can be formed within 14 days of a no-confidence vote. 2] The Act also permits early dissolution if the House of Commons votes by a supermajority of two-thirds. The second option is unlikely to happen. The first will be unpalatable to the incumbent government so how viable is an early election..? Should these not occur, the election will take place on 7 May 2020.


Alternatively they could repeal the Act entirely but what about the Lords & other legal challenges..?

Yes I don't think it will suit Labour to have an early election (they have no money for one right now), so can not see a challenge to the Fixed Term Parliaments Act being sucessful through the house. Repeal of the Act would also take time.

In light of your post and the fact you're being honest in admitting your decision was wrong, I find that very admirable and you have the freedom of the forum back. Of course if you hijack threads and take them down the class warfare route again you will be sectioned again but in the meantime... go make hay...

Thankyou Admin for my reinstatement. I shall weigh up my options, and consider whether I want to spark the EDF version of Article 50, by once again posting outside of the Lounge.


I think it is only right to accept the fact that I am a polarising figure, and my return to the rest of the forum will cause some turmoil for a brief period at least. At this time of forum uncertainty, let me be clear. I shall not be posting in the main section anything regarding class, hipsters, yummy mummies or gastropubs. I will however, speak my mind about the coming of M&S and its detrimental effect on the local population (from all social classes), and my sadness at the loss of Iceland.


Finally, let me just say this. It has been a pleasure being confined to the lounge this last year. I have discovered a new purpose, a purpose far beyond the neatly trimmed hedgerows of ED. I can now admit when I am wrong, and I can weigh up my options before coming in full throttle.

Note to JoeLeg- no, not on medication nor in total denial, rather a pragmatist who just gets on with the job, and knows we've been through worse. I would suggest that patronising comments such as yours from a supposed position of superiority is what had nearly 17 & a half million of us screaming for the leave button! Sigh.

      I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.

      Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
