two social cycle rides Sunday June 19th

Recommended Posts

Still two social rides to go because a third was added yesterday.

On Sunday morning, Southwark Cyclists are running a Bike Train Weekender up to town on the Bike Train route and then going on to take in the central London sights. The segregation takes you to the heart of Westminster, and from there St James Park, Buck House, and Hyde Park are easy safe hops. In fact most of the Freecycle route which used to be cycling friendly once a year is now safe every day.

The pace again will be easy and safe for all except maybe the very small. The segregation makes the whole route safe for children, although the under 8s would probably get tired after a while. The ride meets at the bike stands behind McDonalds by Peckham Rye Station at 10am and will be back by 12. Anyone can drop in and drop out at any point so if you just want to ride up to town and then hang around and do stuff that's fine. Just turn up, pm me or text 0780 326 3650 to say you are coming.

Then in the afternoon there will be a second ride on the European past of Camberwell and Peckham. Ever wondered about the names of Calais Road, De Crespigny Park, Denmark Hill or Delft Way? Did you know that Camberwell had a thriving German population in the 19th century, supporting bakeries, a German church and visiting composers? Or that a community of French Huguenot refugees settled here? Have you spotted the Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Camberwell New Road? Ever bought Cypriot pastries in SE5 or French chocolate in SE15?

The ride is led by Eleanor Margolies, author of ?Green Camberwell?. All welcome, including accompanied children. We will mainly be on quiet roads and will travel at a gentle pace, with stops for sightseeing and appropriate refreshments. Completely free. Everyone welcome. Starts from Peckham Arch (by the library and the Pulse) at 2.15pm, returning, tired but happy. To let Eleanor know you are coming please pm me or just turn up

You seem not to understand the meaning of "national debt".  Have you perhaps been relying on someone else's usage? I'm sorry to hear of Starmer's decimation.

So I've dug out the url to have another try, this time without embedding:  https://x.com/guyshrubsole/status/1858490339356533018 .  Seems ok.   in reply to my own "Where did you get this from?" response to your post at https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/353788-is-rachel-reeves-becoming-the-new-liz-truss/?do=findComment&comment=1688310, in which you again spoke of the government's "doubling the national debt". You seem not to understand the meaning of "national debt".  Might you have been copying someone else's usage? I'm sorry to hear of Starmer's decimation. ================ And the para below was originally a totally new separate post but has also been merged.  Good night forum. The above merging of my posts in response to Sue and to Jazzer have been done by the forum system, so there's no point in my trying again to separate them.  I've already tried editing out the merging and reposting the one to jazzer, but ended up with the same forced merge.  Apologies. Latest edit.  The moral seems to be: don't try making two consecutive posts or they'll be liable to merging.  I've now been able to post a freestanding reply to jazzer's post now that there's an intervening post.
