Anyone else who lives between Crystal Palace Road and Goodrich Road on either Lordship or Landcroft finding their patience sorely tested by the constant barking of a noisy great dane dog? It literally barks every two second and is left outside for hours on end! It's disrupting the children's sleep with the constant racket and has been going on for months. If you call 'Environmental Control', they want to come into your property to measure the noise levels which is counter productive having them bang on the door and trudge through the house rather than going direct to the offending property. Does anyone have any suggestions if there is anything that can be done to silence the Hound of the Basketcases?

Southwark Noise Control are generally very effective in my experience. I'm surprised contacting them hasn't worked.

Have you involved the (other) neighbours? Have you kept a record of when the noise happens? Have you tried to record it (eg on a mobile) at all? Have you approached the owner of the dog?

Why is seeing if it's noisy from in your house counter productive? It seems common sense to me.

Surely they need to check they have evidence to work from rather than just trusting the word of a possibly vindictive neighbour.

I would think a "constantly" barking dog would draw the attention of more than just one neighbour. I agree with ruffers, if it is as bad as you say environmental health inspectors will be able to hear it for themselves and appropriate action taken.
I live in the same area - and last summer heard constant barking from a dog on Landcroft road - although this dog was white fluffy thing not a Great Dane so it may be a different one. We have tried speaking to the family and they said that the dog likes being outside. I have often considered the RSPCA, but have never called them. The council noise people are very effective, but they do come round to check on the sound. We have had them round for the dog previously and they come round within 45 minutes, listen to the noise, and then go directly to the house of the people responsible and give them a verbal warning. Well worth doing.

I phoned Southwark about a dog barking all day in its garden last year, I think it must have been when the owner was out and wasn't aware that it was barking.

They came round virtually immediately and spoke to the owner and the dog has been quiet since (I hope for good reasons!)

Hi there,

I suffered from exactly the same thing and found the council did come out at a reasonable time to visit my house, i.e 6pm instead of 2am! It worked like a dream and the person was served with an abatement order, I received a copy. I would urge action to end the dog's suffering and yours!

Thanks for all your helpful responses. The 'Beast' has only managed a few barks since my initial post, maybe it reads the EDF and realises its card has been marked! Now armed with a selection of useful numbers, I hope further annoyances can be quickly dealt with. I don't blame the dog however irritating it can be, just wish the owner had the slightest respect for their neighbors. Thanks

    • Caught him a few years ago at a bizarre gig in Canterbury and know his London agent.  Sad but he wants a well man.  It was a pleasure to have seen him a few times, always different!  Hadn't realised he had been a local.
    • Stewart Lee, who I have seen numerous times, played a gig 18 months ago in Peckham, turning up late and doing around 12 mins of an expected headliner slot.  He has no social media presence and is uncontactable.  I complained to the ticket agents and promoters to no avail.  Obviously I wouldn't boycott a paper due to this incident. With hard copy print declining more liberal media need support irrespective of how easy it is to pick holes.  The decline of regional and local papers has compounded the issue of so many drawing their information from the right wing/populist press, and unverified reports on social media.
