Today I got cashback and had a horrible deja vu from last year in Somerfield. The lady gave me the cash then signed the receipt using the point of her fingernail I presume because she knew she didn't have a pen. Maybe it's just me but I find that very odd and quite disgusting, although I spose it is just a fingernail but still definitely odd.

I hope another 5 Icelands open just to spite you.

I'm disappointed with the new Co-op, especially lack of stock, they are always out of plain houmus & cucumber dip when I've been in or they'll have 3 different types of tinned potato(!) but no butterbeans. At the fresh chicken shelf they have packs of exactly identical looking chicken pieces, all for the same price but each is from a different country & none from UK which I find very confusing & annoying. I miss the special discounts on minced beef. I now shop more at Sainsburys even though it's not as convenient for me.
On the plus side, there is a fair bit more British fruit and vegetables - spinach, apples, pears, celery, watercress etc. Ultimately, it's a fair-to-middling supermarket. We are not going to get that holy grail of the EDF - an M/S or W'rose, so let's just put up with it.
Does anyone else hate it when you get to the checkout and you have to pack your bags on the right hand side but if you pay by card you have to move (okay, its only a little bit) over to the left (but basically right beside someone else who is trying to pack their bag)? :-S

The cartons of fruit juice (the long life ones) are behind a pillar! You have to wreck the shelf, pulling everything out to see what there is :-$ only to find they don't have it (tomato juice)No surprise there :-S. Next time I looked, they did have tomato juice but only their own watery rubbish brand (6)
Popped in the other day and picked up a loaf of bread, a packet of crisps and some grapes. The cashier asked me for ?5.89. I nearly fell over and asked them to check the prices of each item. The grapes were ?4. The neighbouring cashier told me I could buy twice the amount of grapes in Sainos for ?3 - so I put theirs back and got double the amount in Sainos on my next trip, thanks v. helpful cashier.

?1.89 for a loaf an' a crisps?

Certainly tek de misery out of expensive cris' san'wich for I man.

Irie!!!

One Loaf.

HonaloochieB - I was so stunned by the grapes I never thought about the bread and crisps. It was regular sliced hovis 50/50 type bread and a regular packet of skips - ?1.89. (However that is a huge bargain in comparison with how much I spent at the fair on Peckham Rye yesterday. Oh dear I have been in London 20yrs but my northern roots still shine through when I start moaning about the price of things in 'that London'.)

One Love, Sista.

Lidl has grapes for ?1.79 for 500g.

I am shocked at the price increase although the quality seems OK. The staff, I have personally found, to be most unhelpful, very impolite on occasions and generally a bit clueless ( I had to stand and explain what celeriac was for 5 minutes to two different staff members just the other day...)!

I really can't understand if it is just this Co-op that is so poorly coordinated or if it is all of them?! My local one back down in Exeter seems to suffer from the same problem.... Coincidence?

So was the explanation carried out to the two staff members, individually or simultaneously?

I'd like to know whether your standing explanation took 5 or 10 minutes.

I like to keep an eye on such matters.

Also, what is celeriac?

In fewer than 200 words if you please.

Cheers Cate, I'm so round the Acre lane branch tomorrow.

So Lidl in Peckham isn't good enough for you? M&S usually has tasty grapes as well - I prefer the purple ones. I have no idea of the prices there as haven't been in ages. Don't forget to nip into the Tesco and do a price and taste comparison for us.
