In San marino - I enjoyed several bottles of Robust Italians red wine with Il Duces face on the label

At Statue Park on the outskirts of Budapest they have moved all the giant communist statues to a bit of wasteland and have a communist memrobilia store on site. When I visited with friends our purchases included (no word of a lie) a rubber Lenin mask and The Best Communism 2 on tape - all your favourite communist anthems!

Good times.

Used to know him well in there, I used to teach martial arts and he did used to deal in japenese weapons. He regular customers are ex soldiers or soldier wannabes he used to do lot of business with police officers whom seem to be the ones with interest in Social Services memrobilia. Not really so scary if you talk to him but not sure would want him to dinner.

Yes this place is just ridiculous. It is almost as if he does not realise what has happened to East Dulwich and who now lives here. He should be swept away with all the other rubbish, it's almost as bad as having a chain of shops in Lordship lane. I know he is an inependent but this is not the kind of independent we want. We should leaflet the area and and put some pressure on the liberal coucillors and get his lease revoked. That General was right when he said the troops do not feel suported at home and as for THIS war monger lets get rid. Anyone would think that this country was built on conflict and the old British Empire, Twaddle. It's people like us with the dinner parties, double buggies and organic wellies who founded this great nation...does anyone else think we should float the idea of some kind of wall around the area, of course we would make it out of briars or a nice bamboo, probably should not use brick to many implications Belrlin, Israel etc.

Do you mean the cut up technique that Bowie borrowed from Brion Gysin and William Burroughs?

Gun shop, bang bang.

I think so. It's a dangerous stratery (as the book says)

"you can't rewrite, 'cause to rewrite is to deceive and lie, and you betray your own thoughts. To rethink the flow and the rhythm, the tumbling out of the words, is a betrayal, and it's a sin"

On reflection I can?t remember if that quote was from the book or the film or both. All I know is a tutor I had at university used it as a kind of mantra.

I suppose that?s what you get for studying English, a boring job that gives you RSI and a flawed knowledge of beatnik literature.

    • I am sure what the new plan is but who knows how the postal service will work from here onwards
    • My experience is that my local letter box does have week-day-ly collections - but I think very early in the morning, not at the old 'around 5.00pm' times. There are several daily collections from the box outside the Forest Hill Road sub-post office. I don't think the 'Monday' tab is now ever changed. Mail collections from boxes have got nothing to do with the service we (don't) get from the Peckham Delivery Office. Your Wednesday 12th posting would probably only have been collected on Thursday 13th, if it was posted after 9.00am. If it was being delivered in East Dulwich (where the Peckham DO does come into play) then getting it by the following Tuesday is probably par for the course.
    • Are there no daily collections from post boxes any more? On Wednesday Feb 12 I posted a Valentine's Card in the postbox which is about 20 metres from our house to make sure it arrived by Feb 14 (yes I know I could've put it thru letterbox but that's not as romantic is it). After I posted it I noticed the little metal thingy said "Monday" but I thought this must be a mistake and had not been changed. However, Valentine's Day came and went and no card arrived. In fact it arrived on the following Tuesday, Feb 18 so I'm guessing the Monday collection metal thingy was correct. Has it ever been announced officially that there are no longer daily collections from letterboxes? I remember a time, not even that long ago, when the red postman pat van would pull up at least twice a day, every weekday.
    • My lovely tuxedo cat, Rexy, has been missing since Wednesday which is very out of character. Rodwell Road area, SE22. He is a rescue cat so really quite timid with people he doesn’t know. If you spot him, could you please contact me? Many thanks. He is chipped and neutered.  Photos attached.
