citizenED
Anyone else notice that there are some newly installed table-tennis tables in the playground area in Dulwich Park. Outdoor ping-pong! Sue
Are the bats and balls provided? I love table tennis! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10777-table-tennis-tables-in-dulwich-park/#findComment-313318 Share on other sites
EDmummy
Might need to have balls that a slightly weighted. Not sure how normal ones would cope with the wind. So, who in the council thought this was a good use of budget? Sue
I think it's a great use of budget.Anyway, they can't have cost very much, relatively. steveo
A considerably better use of money than Southwark Life magazine, one issue of which could staff and equip a youth club Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10777-table-tennis-tables-in-dulwich-park/#findComment-313388 Share on other sites
KalamityKate
There are also some 'installations' around the road in the park that look as if they are keep-fit orientated. Last time I went around the park they were still bubble-wrapped, so difficult to tell. I hope to see a few 'fit' men embarrassing themselves soon!! citizenED
They are either excercise machines or sculptures. I'd bet my bottom euro that they are the former. They are installing Table Tennis tables in some school playgrounds. There are table football tables in the playground at Peckham Academy. KalamityKate
It might not have been the council who got the tables and the keep-fit sculptures. It could possibly have been done by the Friends of Dulwich Park. iaineasy
I think it's great whoever paid for them, playing table tennis outside on summer evenings, even very badly is one of lifes great and free luxuries, they have them every where in Switzerland. normal bat and ball, hey presto!! They have one on Hilly Feilds too which seemed very popular today.hugs Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10777-table-tennis-tables-in-dulwich-park/#findComment-313937 Share on other sites
ruffers
Went through the park morning and saw the tables, and all the keep fit things now uncovered and there to be used.Excellent use of council's money I reckon! Boyzndogz
I didn't see an answer to the question of where you get the bat and balls? Is there a rental place in the Park or is it BYO? DrDom
The park Gym is absolutely brilliant. I've cancelled my gym membership! They have table tennis tables in Berlin too, and hacney way. If this was Southwark council I applaud you! Thanks! ceribee
Table tennis?! Fantastic. I recently played neon table-tennis at Shunt bar, London Bridge. The wires between bat and table slightly interupted the quality of play (or maybe it was the G&Ts), but it reminded me what a great game it is.Someone should organise a friendly tournament...? matthew123
By the fact they have installed Table Tennis tables outdoors and they have that Magazine (which goes straight into the recycle bin) just goes to show they have more money than they know what to do with from Council tax. Sue
Oh for goodness sake.Just because you don't like these things doesn't mean to say that nobody else does.I read the magazine, and I am looking forward to playing table tennis in the park.I think it's a great use of council tax and makes the borough a nicer and more interesting place to live in. Magpie
I agree, I bow to no one in my irritation when public money is wasted, but this is a great idea - for a few thousand quid, thousands of people can get enjoyment out of the new tables and exercise equipment until the things rust away. Its a great idea and money well spent. raymondouppernorwood
Nice to see some of you like Table Tennis, I played competitively for 30 years and have around 150 cups and trophies, former Kent Junior and Senior champion, National quarter finalist 1976! stopped in 1994. I was the Dulwich league champion in 1984. Pic attatched of part of the trophy cabinet, note the wine glass which indicates a fondness for red wine.
