DIY shops?

Any DIY buffs out there? I need to build a couple of plinths for an art exhibition this weekend. I am looking for a timber/MDF merchant who can cut timber for a mitre joint onsite ? preferable open on a Saturday as well! B&Q West Norwood can?t cut on site, unfortunately. Any tips gratefully received.

yes although Andyng doesn't recommend them. Mr Asset has used them several times and likes them, he's never had an issue there. family business too.

family business or not I will not spend money on anywhere where service is poor

people are unhelpful.The guy should know better about customer serice as a trader

I've actually found the Plough DIY shop pretty unhelpful too. All I wanted was a wall mounted box for an electrical socket, the guy didn't have a clue!!

Dulwich DIY are always super helpful - they might point you in the direction of what you're looking for if they can't do it themselves?

Yes, Plough DIY have high mark-up too. Dulwich DIY is much better and for electricals the shop on Northcross road, next to the Chip shop is the best around.

Well, as I said, Mr Asset has used Whittons several times for wood cutting with no complaints. He says if you want to know what bad service is go to Merton's next to Kwik Fit and try to interrupt the social club. However Merton's is closer I suppose.

Mertons won't cut timber ( or at least they wouldn't for me) - we always go to the place on Acre Lane in Brixton who will stir themselves to be helpful - can't remember the name though I am afraid

oh well - there you go, Merton's no good anyway. Think the place on Acre Lane is called Fulham Timber Merchants (somewhat misleading!).

Corner of Barry and Underhill. Been there years, and usually gets good reviews.

Banfields on Corner of Barry and Underhill will cut by hand if necessary.
