For a while my garden has had hundreds of these spiders. When we bought the house you could step in the garden without scaring scores of them away. When we dug everything out and replaced the paving etc they seemed to disappear for a while but now they're back with a vengeance. Any idea how to limit their numbers? I've just counted 20 in my lawn alone!

I don't like Spiders... BUT they really are good creatures..

They love to eat the bugs that ruin your garden plants..

When you start looking around you find that some have six eyes. And there are other kinds of spiders with four, two or even no eyes!

But most spiders have eight eyes.

Dispite this they have terrible eye-sight and only really see shadows and you need to be as close as 1ft away before

they notice you..

It's supposed to be unlucky to kill a spider.. If you do, all his mates will come and get yer..

Just a thought

Why not do a trade with the moth problem people http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1670619,page=1 and offer to relocate a few into their houses to keep their problem under control and reduce the spider count in your garden without killing any

Potentially a win win lol

Yes..

Spiders eat pests. Spiders feed on common indoor pests, such as roaches, earwigs, mosquitoes, flies and clothes moths.

If left alone, spiders will consume most of the insects in your home, providing effective home pest control..

Spiders help curtail disease spread. Spiders feast on many household pests that can transmit disease to humans ?mosquitoes, fleas, flies, cockroaches and a host of other disease-carrying critters.

Spiders also eat other spiders.. So you will usually end up with a few Dominant spiders.

They are good to have around..

And similar to most other spiders, they don't like lots of vibrations, which is why they may have temporarily vacated when the garden was repaved.

If you do a bit of stomping and thumping around the garden paving stones when you enter the garden, they'll likely scurry off into the corners out of your way. xx

    • I know - we have been here lots of times since it first opened,  which is why we were disappointed that it was closed at a time it was supposed to be open, but with no notice to say why! I guess we will just  have to ask the reason at our next visit, but I'm not sure we will risk Saturday lunchtime again unless we find the closure  was an unavoidable one off ....
    • Nope. I don’t have this wrong. I’ve tried to put my point across respectfully, without resorting to personal, angry insults. And all my colleagues agree that the BBC got this right in its condemnation.    All you see is confirmation bias.    If you don’t realise that, then you’re part of the problem.
    • We have always gone during the week at lunch time - great place and good value. Husband has been several times on his own and owner knows his first name. I could not go one time for some reason and she sent him home with some spring rolls (free)
