My 2 year old has gone from getting up at 8am to a mind boggling 5.30am. Think it's to do with the new lighter mornings. We currently have blinds in her room with blackout material on the back but the light creeps in round the outside. Anyone know of a blackout solution that we can fix directly onto the window frames? I guess it would need velcro fastening or similar?

Any help much appreciated.

Another option is to stick magnetic strips which you get in DIY shops on a roll to the frame and then use magnets - fridge magnets or the like to hold the blind against the frame. Just a bit fiddly if you want to put it up and down for nap times etc.

Sash windows ?

It's easy to make a very light frame from 20x20mm wood ( Jewsons ) I then stretch and stapled black material to it ( from fabric shop in rye lane )

I made a couple of these for about ?15 the pair

They fitted just snugly inside the beading of each window

It works a treat

We just bought black card from the stationers on Lordship Lane and stuck it to the window frames with blue-tack. Thick black bin bags and selotape (if plastic window frames) also work well, though a bit of a faff in the daytime!

We did this to find out whether it really was the light waking our little one up, thinking that if it was we would then get something proper, but unfortunately the early waking continued, darkness made no difference, so we didn't invest in any proper blackout solutions!

Hope you have more luck.

Thanks everyone - some brilliant ideas. Have followed Smiler's advice and tacked up some bin liners just to see if it actually is the pesky sun that's responsible. If it isn't then I'm just going to have to get used to my new routine and pray that the clocks changing next week will have some effect.
