I was working in York one weekend many years ago ( oh & single ) & went out in the evening

I "met" a very nice young lady in a bar

We had a bit of a snog & I "threw up" after a minute or two ( as you do )

She then asked me back to her hotel ( as you would )

This is my residing "rot" memory of York

( ah, they were the days....)

A discerning lady.. a proper lady. Delightful!

I remember visiting some charming pubs in York, then a pleasant meal. Then we took a wrong turn and found ourselves walking down a very steep street where we were the only people not wearing deeley boppers, L-plates, matching t-shirts, or in drag.

New Forest.

Get a train from Waterloo to Brockenhurst (approx 90mins).

Hire bikes one day, and ride around the forest.

Take a trip to Hurst Castle another day (walk out to it along the shingle spit, then get the little boat back.

Oh, and when in Brockenhurst, go for a meal at the Italian place "Il Palio 2", right by the station.

    • Tennis got really popular over the COVID period and all the clubs round here ended up with long waiting lists.   Put yourself on the list for all of them anyway, things might move faster than you think, definitely for Dulwich Sports as they may be about to get planning permission to build new courts.  Ask about off-peak membership if you work from home, it's often much easier to get and some clubs will give priority to off-peak members when full places come up.   In the meantime, most of the clubs on your list offer group and individual coaching to non-members with a guest fee.   And sign up for local tennis leagues which organises matches at all levels in the local parks - there's a league for Kennington and Brockwell Parks which is really good and a slightly gentler one for Belair and Dulwich Parks.  I did this for a couple of years and had a lot of fun.   https://www.lta.org.uk/compete/adult/local-tennis-leagues/
    • I used Aria on Monday to solve some plumbing issues including a leaky outdoor tap.  Excellent service and a really nice guy. I'll be using him again no doubt.
    • We needed a switch replaced - small job but necessary. Terry responded very quickly to our request and was prompt to arrive, polite and professional and completed the job quickly and without fuss.
    • Does it need to be a tennis club specifically? JAGS has a lot of courts.
