... and i'm now becoming incredibly stressed!

it all started on friday morning, with a huge explosion of vomit in my elder daughters first ever school assembly! by midnight on friday she wasn't even keeping water down and when i phoned nhs direct they got an out of hours doctor to call and they sent someone round to check her. the doctor checked her over, said she wasn't dehydrated and that half of london were suffering with the same thing! since then though she has eaten virtually nothing and has even stopped wanting drinks as whenever she eats or drinks something she then cries and says her tummy hurts. i've had to resort to giving her spoonfuls of water whenever i can get her to take one.

feeling very very stressed. i hate it when i babies are ill. i don't handle it very well and become totally pessimistic.

if anyone has any reassuring words (along the lines of "she will sleep all night and wake up totally better in the morning") they'd be hugely appreciated.

Really sorry for you. Great the doc came and checked her over. It will pass, but poor poppet, and poor you. If it's any consolation, I think the doc is right: there are lots of vomity and runny pooey little ones about at the mo. Our 1 year old just puked up today's lunch, tea, milk all over himself, the cot, the floor, us...and the same thing has happened over last few days and he has slept just fine.

Good luck for the night and her speedy recovery.

hello... our 2 yr old daughter had this bug (well it sounds the same) last week. Lasted for 5-6 days and started with vomiting in first 2 days then explosive runs for the following 3-4days. She didn't eat anything at all but she was thirsty. The doc I spoke to (i called to see if they wanted me to take her into the surgery or not but since no fever accompanied it they said not to unless fever came or if the diarrhea carried on for more than 4 -5 days). Unfortunately she didn't sleep that well at night, sorry, but that was perhaps because she was napping in the day (and usually has given up her daytime nap ). It took a few days for her appetite to return to normal after the bug went but now she's eating so much that I think her body is making up for it, and quite amazingly, eating stuff she wouldn't even eat before she was ill. So I hope your little one gets better soon and hopefully it won't last much longer. If you are worried though you ought to call the doc of course again.

hello

thanks ever so much for your replies - very hugely appreciated

had another night where she was completely restless and whimpering and threw up all the water we gave her.

have phoned the doctor and they can see her this morning but part of me is wondering if i should just take her into a&e as i don't have a huge amount of faith in my doctor...

she attempted to eat some breakfast for the first time in 3 days but it soon reappeared. she is now asleep on the sofa

i am so stressed i've been in tears about 4 times this morning already

Just wanted to add my sympathy! my 18 month old has just got over something similar, which started with him vomiting all over me and the hand luggage while waiting to do through security at Dubai airport Thursday before last. They kindly opened another security line just for us and we got taken to the airport med centre via speedy airport vehicle. the diarrhoea started on the plane back to London, which was fun. I've never been so happy to see heathrow!

Anyway, I thought it would NEVER end, but all well since Saturday just gone so just remember that it will pass!

Tears are allowed :o)

clux how is she? BabySb recovered from the puking pretty quick and we just have disgusting nappies and no appetite now - sounds like your little one had a pretty horrid bug....

I don't deal well with illness, grumpiness or any type of upset generally either......!

hello everyone

thank you so much for all your messages of support - especially molly

i took mabel to the doctor on monday, they checked her over and sent me straight to A&E. They took blood tests and said her blood sugar level was way too low, her temperature was too low and she was dehydrated. So she spent the whole day on a drip. They then said they were going to have to transfer us somewhere else as they didn't have a bed for a night, but then she sat up asked for food, ate an apple and banana and just looked a lot better. So they checked all her bloods again and she'd massively improved and i was allowed to bring her home on the understanding that if she started being sick again i had to take her back.

So far so good this morning, asked for and ate some breakfast. No sick but one huge amount of poo all over my bathroom floor when i got her out of the bath!! Guess her food is going through again!!

So all in all, we're a much happier house today. I've never been so stressed.

Thanks again everyone - you're the best!
