It does look fantastic, so I'm sure we'll all be thrilled with it when it does open.

Had a nosey round today, and it doesn't look anywhere near finished, I'd guess we have a few weeks to go.

Was quite relieved that the non-functioning slightly weird-looking bull and pelican twinset has been taken away but my son was rather upset!

Am I really the first to comment?

We had lots of fun whizzing abou the new playground late this afternoon, and it was lovely to see so many families there hanging out on the grass and enjoying themselves. The new bouncy things are good, but the best part for us was the grassy hillocked area, with tunnels, climbing log and slide.

Bit of a shame the big climbing tower and nets weren't ready - not that it stopped quite a few kids - and that there was so very much litter, but that wasn't going to spoil a golden afternoon.

Well done indeed, FOGG and everyone who made it possible. Inspiring for those of us who'd love to see some more investment in the Peckham Rye Park playground...

So frustrating I am in the playground most afternoons and can not believe the workmens attitude to the job rom 330 onwards no work happens they either sit just inside the cabin or go to the loo with newspapers to read no actual work happens i had hoped with the signs up for the launch of the playground they might pull their fingers out ( or put down their newspapers) but no and so the oficial launch happened beore the playground was ready and when i drove past friday evenin there was tons of litter- shoddy to say the least. I hope there was a clause in the contract so builders didnt get paid unless they completed on time- unlikely i know

It would seem that the central bench/table area became a back-garden house party on Saturday afternoon/evening, I don't think the original bin allocation plan catered for 15 people having a loud music/drink fuelled party in the middle of a kids playground..........

But hey!

Tried out the playground this morning - still full of litter - basically chased my small boy around as he tried to drink from abandoned drink bottles.

Looks great but it's now a scary place for me - small boy travels quick and there's so much more mischeif to be had now.....

I think the new playground equipment looks fantastic. Yet to try it out with my two, but I'm sure we'll be regular and frequent visitors with its lovely revamp. Big thanks and hats off to the commitment and drive of FOGG and Denise Fulgoni in particular who have driven this project through in their own time. A great contribution to the local community, I reckon.

Is there any update on this?

Seems the inadequate fence is still around the wooden structure, and is totally failing to stop kids playing on it, even though the structure is even more dangerous as the surrounding ground is littered with concrete blocks holding the temporary fence up.

Looks a total eye sore at the moment. Cannot believe people are letting their children play on it!

Latest I've found out.

As you know most of the play equipment is already open excepting the tower which is due to be handed over from the contractor to Southwark this Wednesday morning and then the fencing will be removed.

Clearly the contractor has gone well beyond the timescales agreed and will be paying ?4,000 damages for this overrun.

These damages will be added to the Phase 3 budget of ?50,000 raised by friends group from the National Lottery. Phase 3 is planned for replacement swings and kick about area and is currently in the process of being specified with quotes due in Autumn.

I wont be able to take a look this Wednesday so if anyone could tell me what they see I'd be grateful.

Went today and its brill, the fence is still up and some big kids were playing on it, not a terrible problem in itself but there are loads of planks and concrete blocks around making it more dangerous than need be (which could be easily fixed). Really enjoyed the new layout, thanks to anyone involved.

Yesterday in good faith I gave an update that the tower would be handed over tomorrow morning.

I've just been told by council officers that the contractor hasn't completed the final adjustments and is unable to state they've finished all the work. The contractors have also failed to water the grass over the last few weeks.

Farcical.

Hopefully my next update will be more positive.

The new additions to the playground are great, though for the older kids is a shame that the most exciting bit is still fenced-off. Also a shame about the grass, which was so lovely a few weeks ago and is now all dead. Dulwich park grass looking dry too. Guess must be difficult to maintain without many sprinklers!

    • Used Mason & Green for airport transfers etc thanks to recommendations on here. Never been disappointed, always reliable. https://www.masonandgreen.co.uk/
    • I find the self diagnosis thing  a bit worrying. I once nearly died because a hospital  doctor misdiagnosed a ruptured ovarian cyst and peritonitis as food poisoning. It was lucky I hadn't initially diagnosed it as food poisoning myself and assumed  the sickness and pain would go away. I called my GP, who called an ambulance. I ended up having an emergency operation in a different hospital, the first hospital not having scanning facilities (this was in the olden days) 🙄
    • but GPs have your medical records. Perhaps  by "self diagnosis" you meant that you recognised the pain.
    • Some employers prefer older people as they are deemed to be more reliable, B and Q at one time had lots of 'older people'. I retired at 66  but on a casual visit to my old department, my former boss offered me a job saying I could name my hours. Would have loved to taken him up on it but the reason I took 'early retirement' was that my arthritis restricted my mobility re walking and standing for periods of time.  I would say it may not be ageism but not being deemed suitable for the position.  Someone I know was always looking for part time work but having spoken to her over a period of years, although she may have had the qualifications  needed for the work, her general attitude towards others and her very set views, I could understand why she found paid employment difficult to achieve. Can you do voluntary work? This may give you additional transferable skills.
