pablogrande
Driving past the playground today there was a JCB type machine smashing the older climbing frame and slide etc. We hven't been to this playground for a while but I don't think it was in such a state that it couldn't have been reused elsewhere seems like an awful waste. KidKruger
It was in fine mettle, I go there with little 'uns very often.Yeah seems a proper waste without further detail. VikkiM
The playground is in The Lane ward and from memory has had a couple of lots of 'Cleaner, Greener and Safer' money from Nunhead and Peckham Rye Community Council. I think it was Friends of Goose Green that made the bids for the money. I don't know if there is a 'Friend' on the forum who might be able to tell us a bit more?Interesting question on whether play equipment can be reused or recycling in some way... will try to do a bit of investigation..Goose Green fence consultation is here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7KTB9Y8Victoria.Peckham Rye Labour Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10330-goose-green-playground/#findComment-304586 Share on other sites

Ann
Also, there are design plans for the new playground on the Noticeboards on the Green. I noticed them whilst out with the dog, itlooks like quite an interesting development. James Barber
The playground is being rebuilt after receiving planning permission earlier this year.I believe this is largely funded by Southwark Council using central government funding to improve playgrounds but along more naturalistic lines. So kids get mounds, grass, tunnels, etc. Naturalistic playgrounds are thought to promote more adventure and imagination. That this funding tipped up with Community Concil CGS funding. When I was asked about playground priorities in East Dulwich ward I suggested the ones at Goose Green, Dulwich Park and Pekcham Rye Parks. nunheadmum
Is this the work that's going on in Peckham Rye Park too? I saw they were digging up the ground on Tuesday but haven't been there since. 'Naturalistic lines' sounds interesting! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10330-goose-green-playground/#findComment-305294 Share on other sites
emilydrab
I've looked at the plans and it looks absolutely brilliant! I thought the bits of crappy climbing frames that have been removed were absolutey rubbish and didn't inspire anyone to play imaginatively! Colonel Blimp
Just to clarify the funding situation for the current works being carried out at the Goose Green Playground:The Friends of Goose Green (FoGG) submitted Cleaner Greener Safer applications to South Camberwell, Nunhead & Peckham Rye (N&PR), and Dulwich Community Councils, for funding towards the cost of upgrading the playground. The only Community Council that responded to us was N&PR. With the CGS funding we have received, together with a successful application to the Government's Playbuilder scheme, and also our application to the Lottery's Community Spaces scheme, FoGG has been able to secure sufficient funds to rebuild the playground so that it is fit for the community's young people, in the 21st century. The project has been, and continues to be, driven by the Friends of Goose Green. The plans for the works have been posted in each of the notice boards on the Green. It is also worth noting that the equipment being replaced is no longer supported by their manufacturers. VikkiM
Somebody from Friends of Goose Green was at Community Council meeting last night to talk about all the work done. The stuff going on looks and sounds great and I was certainly convinced that this was a great use of 'cleaner, greener, safer' money (as well as the other funding sources too).Sounded like the work on the current phase should be finished pretty soon.VictoriaPeckham Rye Labour Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10330-goose-green-playground/#findComment-307031 Share on other sites
chantelle
yes i can see with my own eyes that the swings are still there, and the little climbing frame! (at least it was there a week ago). I just wondered when we might see the new playground in all its glory. pidgelet
I asked one of the guys working there over a week ago when it would be finished and was also told "8 weeks" so either the schedule has slipped already or 8 weeks is the total expected build time ...
