Well if it's the contractors working on the ex Dulwich Van Hire site ( and from the road nos it sounds very near them ) they get no sympathy from me.

I rarely use the adjacent bus stop ,but was horrified a couple months ago to see large lorry off loading something by hoist - heavy load swinging across pavement ,off side wheels of delivery vehicle lifting from road and no one oversseing pedestrian safety .

I couldn't understand why lorry didn't pull on to site ,but if it couldn't why was no one keeping an eye out for people

( family groups at bus stop ) to warn to keep away from this stretch ?

and the pavement was certainely cracked and messed up.

And yes I should have spoken to someone /reported it - but didn't, other things got in the way.

I'm surprised by just how much material workman are allowed to put on the roadside and kerb- I've seen generators, skips, piles of sand, portaloos as well as cables that stretch across the path- this goes on for weeks- is it legal. I would have thought that the cables, at least, were a health and safety thing.

Im surprised nobody has stuck up for builders yet so i will! My other half has to cut materials outside when working in peoples home's because generally people dont want to have lots of dust and dirt inside their homes when having minor works carried out. At the moment he is working on someone's front foot path so has to use the pavement outside to cut the materials on his machine. He has public liabilty insurance is always as careful as can be when setting things up so it doesn't become a hazzard to people walking past. But to be honest is it such a hardship to have to walk a couple of feet out of the way of someone working, I have kids and push a pram so to me if I see someone working on the pavement or loading/unloading materials i use my common sense and either cross the road to the other side or wait until they have acknowledged me and stop what they are doing so i can carry on walking with the pram.

If people haven't got a big front garden, where are they meant to have materials delivered too? I can understand if someone dumps a load of stuff across the whole pavement, that would be a bit annoying but i've never come across that most builders/workmen do have some consideration - i'm saying most not all!
