  1. Thanks for the support Sean, my first thread and its a moan.... But you are right, things like this can easily drive you out of an area and that would be a real shame.
  2. For the past three nights, one of the residents in a block of flats across the road from us on the corner of Crystal Palace Road and East Dulwich Road (what we are told is a type of halfway house) has been playing loud music throughout the night. The resident, for whatever reason, insists on placing his speakers on the windowsill leaving his windows open so that the whole area can enjoy tunes from Kiss fm all night long. We are struggling to get much sleep at night and have contacted the noise pollution team at Southwark Council, is anyone else suffering with the same problem? If so, please let the noise team know so that this may be resolved. We think this may be a new resident as we have not had any problems in the past...
  3. I am a fan of Talk Talk, and hated that (cant remember her name, sorry. Apparently some sort of US singer/style icon...) blonde woman's down right awful version of 'Its my Life' from last year, gash is the perfect word, BM. Loved the White Stripes version of 'just dont know what to do with myself', and loved the video with Ms Moss even more...
  4. Thank you for reassuring me Michael, I have spent a horrible few days worrying about the potential loss of Manchurian Chicken Tikka from my diet..
  5. Mistresses. For obvious reasons.
  6. Sorry Nero, but I have to stand up for that parade of shops. The 'Supermarket' is run by a decent bloke who sells just about everything you would ever need. The picture framing shop has also proved very helpful to us with advice and decent service, and I think the Peruvians who run the dry cleaners are great as well. Kids and parents seem to enjoy the ceramic painting cafe at the end too, so all in all it could be a great deal worse (thinking Forest Hill Road).
  7. I thought I was alone in never having been to Inside 72... I have been meaning to for years but have never quite made it. I am probably too old now in any case...
  8. Smoking room with an air lock perhaps Jah? It doesnt work and it never will. I smoke but hate breathing in other peoples fumes. Pubs are far better places to be these days, nanny state or not.
  9. Gerry - I think Bush went into Iraq to avenge for the 9/11 attacks and to gain some American interest in Iraqi oil. I think it had little to do with the first Gulf War.
  10. I had dinner with Noddy's wife a few years ago... Woops, wrong thread. Elbow. Fantastic live band. Love 'um.
  11. For a more modern day candidate, I have been very impressed with Damon Albarn. I was never the biggest Blur fan, but there were several quality songs and Parklife is a great album. What he has done recently with Gorillaz shows his musical diversity, and therefore in my opinion, I think he is one of the most creative artists at the moment.
  12. I would also welcome a music shop and agree with you that variety is very important to the Lane. But given the state of the music industry generally and the rising popularity of downloads, alongside the high rent rates on Lordship Lane, I would not think an independent music shop would be a money spinner or even a viable way to make a living. If HMV are struggling what hope has a single outlet got? But then again perhaps I am far too cynical for my own good...
  13. We went to the quiz night a couple of months ago and had a really good night. I was made to feel very welcome by the bar staff which isnt always the case in SE22. I like it and would go more often if it was closer.
  14. Artic Monkeys. I hate the recent collection of jingle-jangle guitar bands... Awful.
  15. In my opinion, facebook is represented by the number of 'friend' requests I get from people I havent heard from or seen since I was at primary or secondary school, some twenty odd years ago. I believe these people wish to claim me as a friend merely to make up the numbers on their profile page, as they seemingly have no interest in any further communication. Quite sad.
  16. Asset - I hired some stuff from behind Forest Hill Station, one of those shops in that short parade. They were reasonable and well stocked.. Well worth a visit if you dont fancy traveliing to the excellent though pricey Snow and Rock.. Hope you have a great time.
  17. Excellent work - a true leader of the tribe you are, Sir!
  18. Obviously, *Bob* means recycle... This is ED.;-)
  19. The only time I went into the place was to purchase some speaker cable. They told me that they dont sell it and bustled me out of the door, which I thought was odd, as it appears to be a shop for hi-fi's and stereo equipement...
  20. Well, I for one will be informing them that I never intend to buy anything from their poxy shop until they act with some common decency. How pathetic of them.
  21. Ummm, well I for one am more than happy to queue up a bit for better quality produce. And at a fair price to boot... The difference in taste between a William Rose chicken and one from Sainsbury's for example, is huge. Snorky, be as appalled as you like, but for better quality produce I for one am more than happy to stand in line.
  22. Nice work Reggie, you tree hugger you!
  23. I agree Keef. Perhaps scor46 has watched one too many Carlsberg adverts recently, "we dont run pubs, but if we did...."
  24. I am with Mr Carnell on this one. I didnt think I would ever buy anything in there, as polo shirts and rugger tops are just not my thing. However, when I popped in to have a look inside I found a decent looking shirt and thought what the hell, I will try it on. Its got to be one of the best made shirts I have bought for some time, fits like a dream. I was certainly with you when they arrived James, and still wouldnt wear 90% of the stuff in there, but I love my shirt..
  25. I have to agree with AnotherPaul and others on this. I left the 'Upper East Side' of East Dulwich to live in Sydenham for a couple of years, and then was fortunate to move to the Goose Green area a couple of years ago. Sydenham is not a bad place to live, but I wouldnt buy into this 'up and coming' thing too much. Other than the Dolphin pub, the rest of the main shopping area hasnt changed in years and remains shabby at best. You just do not get that ED vibe and atmosphere anywhere else in the surrounding areas. However, there are some decent properties around the ED outskirts. I drove to the tip in West Dulwich the other day and some of the wide and quiet roads around there are appealing. A tricky one for you Spangles30, but I missed East Dulwich terribly when I moved and will try my best to avoid doing that again.
