Higher water pressure in your street?
Gerrard replied to louisiana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have noticed that over the past six months, we have substantially lower water pressure in East Dulwich Road... If only we could come to some sort of trade off agreement, Louisiana! -
Thanks Ted, so in the past Cyclops would have decided whether a ball was in or out, whereas now its down to the players to challenge, for which they have a maximum of three in a set. interesting. By the way, extremely saddened to see Gisela Dulko has been knocked out....

Can someone answer me this..... Hawkeye used to beep when a serve was out but very close to the line, but since the introduction of the new challenge system, the beep seems to have been retired, is this the case? Not that I miss it or anything, I was just wondering about it the other day, as I have watched a fair amount of Wimbledon, but all of it beep free....

I think tennis is much more of a game about individual's and less about the country the players are from. I understand why people want to see a British winner at Wimbledon after all these years, but personally I agree with Keef. I support the individual whose style of play I prefer to watch, or whose personality I warm to. Hence why I am backing Federer this year. Did anyone see that match last night? Benneteau v's Djokovic? It kept me on my sofa and well away from my scheduled run around Peckham Rye... I had a lot of respect for Benneteau, particularly after he suffered two nasty falls and seemed to play through the pain barrier. What a great game for the first day. I fear my level of fitness is going to suffer over the next fortnight...
-
For clarity - Bicycle = nothing special, and I have yet to try Babur...
-
Nothing special in my opinion - Ganapati is by far the most authentic, its more Peckham Rye than Peckham, a ten minute walk from Goose Green, well worth the trip.

I agree Jeremy, and in my opinion, it beats Franklins hands down. I have never had a bad meal in the Palmerston, but had two disappointing meals at Franklins, both of which were rather smallish servings.
-
And a lot worse at that price too...
-
Sorry to hear you didnt enjoy your meal, I have been going to the Palmerston for quite some time now and rate their food highly, I certainly have never experienced bad food or service. The prices are relatively high, but in my mind the quality of ingredients and care taken over their preperation justifys the cost. I think we are fortunate to have a restaurant of this quality on the Lane. I have had far better meals in the Palmerston than many so called top-end restaurants in the West End etc.

"Shine" by Take That. I am sure that it would have fallen under the radar along with the rest of Take That's output if it wasnt sung by the shortarsed chap with the nasely whine for a voice. The extended "let it shiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeee..." grates so much, particularly now that it is part of some awful advertising campaign. Rant on.

Ok, this is probably the worst place to post this comment, please excuse what follows... I bought the first series on dvd after the Beeb's seemingly daft decision to put it on so late in the evening. I think, at a push, I understood 25% of the dialogue.. The plot seemed rather straightforward. Its obviously gloomy (but we were expecting that). It didnt really grab me at all, probably because of the dialogue problem... do you just begin to understand the Baltimore voices after a while? Do they ever finish a sentence without swearing at each other? We were left so disappointed that we havent brought ourselves to watch episode 2. A friend of ours said it takes at least five episodes to start to understand some of the characters. Is this right? Is this a common theme for Wire virgins, the difficult beginning? I enjoyed New Jack City etc. but this is really heavy going.

Wishing you all well for the big day. I am praying my dodgy knee manages to hold up... Thankfully the weather forecast looks pretty good, best of luck to everyone and hope you enjoy your day!

Collectively being referred to as 'guys'. I hate that. Do women hate that too?
-
Hayeeechhhh. I hate that. Why cant people pronounce it correctly anymore? Sounds ridiculous.

I am sick of the perception that people who work for Banks in the City and who may be fortunate enough to receive a small bonus this year are living some sort of 'fat cat' champagne lifestyle. This is utter nonsense and simply does not apply to the vast majority of City workers, as Brendan quite rightly pointed out. The BBC's news coverage last night, laced with champagne glasses appalled me almost as much as the original post on this thread. Most people in the City had nothing to do with causing this situation, and earn a modest salary in return for a very long working week. Spartacus, a Daily Mail reader - that figures....

Stead hands required LegalE - have fun!

Half full for me, if I knew you Jah I would certainly have bought you a drink... 1. I didnt get made redundant, although sadly thousands from our place have. 2. I managed to get through 14 miles of pounding the streets for my marathon training, 8 more to do on Sunday though... 3. I saved over ?200 on my car insurance for the year thanks to moneysupermarket. 4. Managed to eat curry two nights during the week, one homemade which was fantastic.

In my humble opinion, the Magnolia is by far the best place to go for a Sunday roast locally. I have often been left disappointed and spent a long time avoiding pubs for a roast because the quality can often be lacking, portions are small, or I can simply make a much better meal at home. This is not the case with the Magnolia, the quality is excellent, portions are huge and the service is very attentive and friendly. It has quickly become my favourite pub on Lordship Lane. Oh yes, and guess what? I am a bloke too, and all the other blokes present from our party went away impressed, very merry and satisfied. The women loved it too.

What is it with drivers and pedestrian crossings in this country!!???
Gerrard replied to Strawbs's topic in The Lounge
I make a fair bit of eye contact with the oncoming driver before I step out and find this works well. To be fair to drivers, it is quite unusual to have crossings right next to a roundabout, so perhaps for some of them it is the last thing they expect to be dealing with. Then again, a lot of our local drivers are just incredibly unaware of anything other than the 'top tune' they are listening through their tinny and blown speakers... I always take extra care at the Goose Green crossing, in the words of Lynn faulds Wood, its a potential deathtrap. -
My family was in this game for a fair few years.. To be fair to both the sellers outside the EDT and to Sainsburys, potted trees with roots are always going to be more expensive. Quite a lot of labour goes into planting and tending to these trees during the year or two before it is sold to the public. you then have to add on storage costs and finally transport, and not forgetting of course a margin for some profit. It soon adds up. In terms of impact on the environment, as Huguenot correctly states, the argument between the benefits of plastic or real trees continues. On the side of opting for a real one, I understand that a young tree will take almost three times more carbon out of the atmosphere than an older, more established tree. Christmas trees are all specifically grown for this purpose, if people didnt buy real trees they would not have been grown in the first place. The story of thousands of acres of forest being cleared each year is a myth, they all come from fields around Europe and are treated in the same way as any other crop. I suspect the cheaper trees at B&Q are the traditional Norway spruce trees. The 'Nordman' variety generally sold on the Lane take a lot longer to grow and will therefore always be more expensive. Lizzied is right in that Nordman trees will never smell as nice as the traditional pine, but they do drop less needles and are not as sharp as the traditional tree. The guys on Uplands Road are the friendliest garden centre people I have come across, if I was at home for Christmas then they would be getting my money.

Thanks very much for your suggestions, I will let you know how it goes. Sean - glad to be of service!

Dear Forumites, I am off to see Bill Bailey tonight, and wanted to head over to Chinatown for a meal beforehand. I am hardly ever here, and my last choice of restaurant was a disaster... Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent meal? Many thanks Gerrard

I agree whole heartedly with you Moos, Die Another Day was my least favouite Bond movie for exactly these reasons. I ddn't dig the invisible "We call it the Vanish" Aston Martin either. Pierce had his moments admittedly, but Mr Craig's performances as Bond have made the previous ten films rather forgetable.
-
Product placement has always been a part of the Bond novels and films, but I think it has certainly become more noticable in recent films. I went last night and enjoyed it, but I agree with EDOldie, that Casino Royale was a very tough act to follow. Well worth a watch in the cinema Bon3yard, I implore you not to wait for the DVD! Certainly a much better film that any of the Bourne films in my opinion.

Mike P - the 521 leaves LB for Holborn, for when it rains and/or you cant be bothered with the walk. Sean M - Walking from E&C to Holborn in 25 mins? Surely not possible without some form of drug or transportation device perhaps..
