Well done Alistair Darling > for taking Salmond on and showing him up for what > he really is. > > Louisa. Given that what's on offer in the referendum can't be called full independence and sovereignty and given that both major parties down here are offering a form of devo max, I think Salmond has already won.
  2. It's what the Plough got called for a while.
  3. Hermits Cave doesn't serve food (though it did try briefly some years back), nor does Stormbird, so it is still possible you just need the right demographic
  4. I was talking about this place to some friends just the other day, explaining to an Australian that before Neighbours the flying doctor exhibit was pretty much most of what I knew about the place. I was shocked to find none of the other brits present (none originally from London or SE) had ever heard of it. The North is a strange place.
  5. Apologies for going off topic and briefly switching wars, but the following is largely for the benefit of ???? and his known love of social media. See it does have a purpose after all. http://www.thedrum.com/news/2014/07/31/selfie-addicted-russian-soldier-caught-ukrainian-territory-instagram-geo-tagging-0
  6. A pint of Ruddles in the spoons is ?1.75
  7. On a restricted road (which is most of London) headlights are not legally required, only sidelights. Riding a bike is an extremely safe thing to do. Riding a bike without lights on a lit road is slightly less safe, but still extremely safe.

  9. Interesting summary of the more recent negotiations and how they went wrong. http://www.newrepublic.com/article/118751/how-israel-palestine-peace-deal-died?utm_source=pocket&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pockethits

  12. The US brokers a peace deal, prisoner release and no rockets etc. Netanyahu repeatedly times the prisoner release with settlement expansion. Why??
  13. According to the stats Messi is ahead. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/messi-is-better-than-maradona-but-maybe-not-pele/ I've always liked Lineker's story about Maradona though. Apparently when playing for Barcelona, Lineker took part in a charity game against a world 11 including Maradona. Before kick off Maradona came out to entertain the crowd, his party piece on this occasion was to stand on the spot and kick the ball straight up in the air as hard as he could wait for it to come back down then volley it straight back up again. He stayed routed to the spot not moving around at all, but repeated it seemingly as often as he liked. It left the likes of Platini and Lineker open mouthed and when they got back to Barcelona's training ground and tried to emulate it no one managed more than about 4 and that was running around desperately trying to stay underneath it. Lineker likened it to trying to balance snooker balls, something that shouldn't be possible.
  14. System restore is easiest option or when running Malwarebytes make sure you're in safe mode.
  15. Well if they happened to be a neurologist it might.
  16. ?11m in total? I wonder how much Rebecca Brooks defence council picked up for her trial, amazing what money can buy.

  18. Interestingly Nate Silver's 538 stats blog has group D as the hardest to predict, but rate England's chances better than most people on here do. Spain now rated as only having a 30% chance of getting through the group stage. http://fivethirtyeight.com/interactives/world-cup/ Eta viewing on a phone doesn't give you the option of viewing the groups and individual games, you need at least a tablet for that
  19. Dulwich Bakery always got my vote for sausage rolls.
  20. This has long been an acute problem in the Wimbledon Common area. Suspects were described as very short and at least one of them Bulgarian looking.
  21. A very slight over enunciation of the second syllable of the word perfect.

  23. Blimey, he appears to have gone something of "a journey" :)
  24. No not a professional opinion at all and I may have got it completely arse about face, but all headphones will amplify sound uniformly. My father has high frequency deafness so it just struck me that the greater clarity from more expensive gear reproducing a broader frequency range and perfectly balanced sound would be lost on him, but I'm happy to be corrected.
  25. I saw this the other and thought of this thread. A 1969 Rolling Stone review of a new band's first album. Good guitarist apparently, but obviously not destined to go very far. http://m.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/led-zeppelin-i-19690315
