  1. Trustee vacancy Paxton Green Time Bank, based at Kingswood House in Seeley Drive, South Dulwich, is a well-established and well-regarded small charity. We use co-production to help build strong, active communities, and to develop the well-being, capacity and skills of the members to enable everyone to participate fully in society. We would like to recruit two more trustees to join the existing strong team. We are looking for active, outgoing people who would like to help us further our goals, and who are willing to participate in appropriate ways in the activities as well as fulfilling their statutory oversight role. We would particularly like applications from people who are well connected in local institutions such as churches and community groups in Lambeth or Southwark, or in local businesses. The board meets bi-monthly in Dulwich, usually in the early evening. Read more about us on www.pgtimebank.org and if you are interested, please send an email to [email protected] to receive more information. We will be interviewing in spring 2014.
  2. A propos of silverfox's post - an important one - try reading Sustainable Energy without the Hot Air by Prof David McKay. It's a lightly written (though lots of figures) down to earth assessment of what really matters and what is practicable in teh way of alternative energy and savings, rather than the emotional statements and responses we too often get. Too many "facts" are trotted out in teh papers and on air which are unsubstantiated at best, and often based on different assumptions. I wasn't there to sign up last week, but I've dusted my bike down, turn off more lights and put machines off inseat of on standby when we're out and at night. We have also installed solar water heating (not cheap but there are grants) which at this time of year is very effective.
  3. Just discovered this thread. No-one has mentioned the use of antibiotics in intensive farming which I understand may pose a serious long term problem as we get immune to them with repeatdd exposure. Organic farmers of course use them too, but only when necessary, not as a matter of routine. Then there are the growth hormones fed to factory chickens....
