Wow, this looks so good, a leap into the third decade of the 21st century, thanks so much. Just a little comment, on the old forum it was possible to go directly to the latest post on a thread from the section index: is that possible to do now?

There have been layers of gentrification similar to an archaeological dig. In the mid to late 1990s, those with more imagination than money discovered the pleasures of East Dulwich and took the plunge to move south of the river introducing a ?bohemian? vibe. More interesting shops moved into shop premises left empty by the exodus of butchers and greengrocers in the wake of the arrival of Sainsburys. Ten years or so later, gentrification of the area had become established and some of the early trailblazers cashed in their chips to move to pastures new, East Dulwich became ED and the area had become more vibrant but less quirky (for want of a better word). This era saw the founding of the East Dulwich Forum and later the opening of the Picturehouse. Little jewellery shops began to open and more estate agents. One thread on this forum that comes to mind from this time complained about the ?chavs? that had begun to appear around the EDT. Then a few years ago, the current era described by Rockets started. Shop landlords became greedy, more and more loft extensions were/are being built and wealth has become the dominant factor rather than imagination. But East Dulwich is still a pleasant place to live, with its parks and lively high street. The changes that have taken place here have taken place elsewhere and are not separate from the wider political/social climate. East Dulwich still has a good vibe but then it always did - it really wasn?t as down at heel and rough as some newcomers seem to believe prior to gentrification!

Yep, train from Bromley South to Denmark Hill or Peckham (about 20 minutes) then walk or bus

Yes, of course I realise that many who work in the businesses on LL don?t live locally to their work but then neither do those who spend an hour each way travelling to central London live locally to their work.

Those who work in the businesses in Lordship Lane do, that?s why they?re so vehemently against any CPZ

Southwark - have council tax rebates been paid yet?
Jenijenjen replied to CPR Dave's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Do those who haven?t received their rebates pay their CT by direct debit? I only signed up to pay by direct debit in April and only received my rebate this week. -
A pared down monarchy was very much the message of the balcony appearance on Sunday afternoon just HM, POW and Camilla and the Cambridges, the latter very much representing the future of the monarchy and of the generation that sees themselves as an anachronism. When QEII came to the throne, royalty was viewed as just one step away from God, thankfully that attitude has long gone.

Now it?s done, can there be a moratorium on the word ?iconic??

Where to donate books & comics?
Jenijenjen replied to Applespider's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are companies like Ziffit who buy second hand books if you draw a blank with donating. It's a painless procedure - you scan the books which will tell you how much they'll pay, pack the books securely, Ziffit will arrange for free collection and, once they've received your books and checked them, they deposit the money into your PayPal account. Of course, they dont pay a lot and there are some they won't take but it's still worth doing. -
I?m confident our councillors are fighting as hard as they can to retain the bus route given their limited powers in the face of TFL and the juggernaut of a Tory government who are withholding the necessary funding. To suggest that if our councillors fight hard enough they will be able to retain the service is either extraordinarily naive or mischief making.

It went as far as Shephards Bush until 1994 with the section between Oxford Circus and Notting Hill Gate being withdrawn in 2004.

Doctors appointments at Forest Hill Group Practice
Jenijenjen replied to Lemmy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
?Jenijenjen what did you find stressful about the pre-covid system?? 1. Waiting for about half an hour before I got to speak to anyone (not to mention the ghastly Muzak!) 2. Being told the first available appointment is not for 3 or 4 weeks. Using econsult, the couple of occasions I?ve needed an appointment, one was for the next day and the other was within a week. Neither could be called an emergency. When an econsult is submitted, you are given a date and time when you will have heard back from the doctor, usually a couple of days and in my experience that timeframe has been adhered to. -
Doctors appointments at Forest Hill Group Practice
Jenijenjen replied to Lemmy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I?m with FHRGP and have used the econsult service a few times. A couple of times it has necessitated a physical exam and I was contacted quite quickly to arrange for a face to face appointment. So I would recommend you start with econsult and if they think an examination is required they will call you in. It?s just a different way of doing things but I have to say I find it a lot less stressful than the pre Covid system. I?ve also used econsult a couple of times for minor matters which were niggling me but wouldn?t dream of making an appointment for and have received a helpful and reassuring response. -
St. Francesca Cabrini primary school may close permanently

A large private house, Woodville Hall, was on the site at the end of the 19th century. In 1902, St Francesca Cabrini founded a mission school in Brockley but was given notice to quit by the landlord in 1910. On behalf of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an order she founded, she purchased Woodville Hall and a property in Honor Oak Road at a good price and moved the convent and school to these buildings. The school accepted only girls and was fee paying, attracting the daughters of wealthy Italians and Irish in London as well as pupils from overseas. Woodville Hall was extended and other surroundings buildings purchased. However, the original Woodville Hall remains and is Grade II listed. St Francesca Cabrini died in 1917 and was beatified in 1938. She is the patron saint of immigrants. -
Two unexploded bombs were discovered yesterday by builders in Denmark Hill. One was rushed urgently to Dulwich and Sydenham Golf course where it was detonated. https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/unexploded-ww2-bombs-discovered-and-detonated-after-being-uncovered-by-denmark-hill-builders/?fbclid=IwAR2d8tr7ExtzMCr4XxwWR0xmVQ-TVTmmMLM-CYfcg-3sdFrw7i9oJHwPIUM
