  1. ???? - reason Felbrigg is so easy is that there are only houses down one side of the road for a lot of it - as Shawbury and Bawdale roads houses side onto it. Saying that - you've prob just made it a lot harder for yourself! I used to live on Lacon Road and it was regularly a nightmare - whenever I tried to park. Drove back down there on Friday to nip into NX road and remembered what drove me mad - just as I was about to reverse into a space the Royal mail screeched up beside me gesturing for me to go past - then parked up in the way of the space, put his hazards on and jumped out to make a delivery. Grr. Just moved to the 22/23 borders - loads of parking (mainly due to living up a very steep hill!) AND HOP/Forest hill are on the tube map now. OK, so its only the East London line, but its a start!

  3. >:D< See, I feel better already. Now, I've just got to take a photo and work out how to upload onto this new fangled interweb thingy....
  4. Twice in the last week I've noticed one of our lovely traffic warden cars (the little red one) that zip around trying to ticket anything and everything, parked across a double yellow AND one of the dropped kerbs, with the engine running and the driver reclined right back in the seat having a kip, with his mate next to him grinning inanely. This seems wrong on so many levels! Do you reckon there's any point emailing our lovely councillors about this waste of council tax and danger to pedestrians and traffic in ED? I think not, but I feel better for telling you all...
  5. I had a home birth about 18months ago - went on the ward tour at 35 weeks, and by 36 was booked on for a home birth. So its never too late. All went very well, and when labour really kicked in I was SOO grateful not to be faffing about getting to the hospital and trying to get into that rip-off they call a car park. I did have a really quick labour (4 hours from established labour) and that meant I got to experience the delights of the postnatal ward after all for stiches, which was really disappointing after doing the hard bit it all myself (OK, with just a bit of gas n air!) But that apart, I had THREE midwifes with me throughout (one had just transferred to the community team and wanted to get some more experience before going it alone). On the risk side - in ED we are minutes from the hospital, and if you get into complications the midwife is with you all the time and picks it up straight away - plus if you have to get an ambulance you are top priority call as there are 2 lives at risk (which I found reassuring, not scary). You can opt for a homebirth and at ANY point change your mind and go into hospital, where you still get to keep your dedicated midwives. Not that I'm suggesting that 'work' our overstressed NHS, but y'know.... Good luck - it'll be great, whereever you choose. Just relax and enjoy it!!! :))
  6. Hi Luckily I don't normally have to turn right at this junction. But have seen many similar junctions and when they brought the yellow box rule in I checked to see how it worked when you are turning right. You are ALLOWED to enter the yellow box, and wait to turn right, provided that the ONLY thing stopping you is oncoming traffic (ie if there is a queue along Peckham rye stopping you getting onto that part of the road you should not enter the box) So, this should help more people turn right - of course they still have to do so in the time between the red light jumpers coming from the Nunhead direction and the ones coming from Peckham who think they are in a F1 race and accelerate as soon as their lights are on 'get ready' red and amber!
  7. I also own a vespa - but a baby ET2 50CC. Does the job nicely - commute into Holborn in 25 mins door to door - zips past those buses a treat!!! At the Green fair last week they had an electric scooter/bike - Zippy or something. Anyone got one of them? Top speed is a fantastic 20 KPH - but realistically how often do you get to drive much faster (Average here - I'm sure none of you with big grown-up bikes are one of those lovely types who revs up to full speed between lights cos they can, then brake and I catch them up every time!!)
  8. Back on the cars and their numbers - so often I've gone passed and read their names - the 'Brixton Belle', Tulse Hill Treasure', and then obviously the guys that have been drafted in from other branches for launch, the 'Archway something or other' 'Isleworth Idiot' etc. wouldn't it be amusing if our local Banksy to rename some of them with witty new slogans. (not suggesting that it was done in permanent ink or anything, just a post-it) Anyone think of something more apt beginning with 'B' for the Brixton one???
  9. So, from the sounds of it, No 2 is trying to get a change of use from A to D (retail to Dentist) while no. 6 is being let to Jojo, (ie retail) who will have to request change of use from D to A. Now, that sounds REALLY sensible... glad that's what we pay our taxes for! Why couldn't they each have gone for the site with the right permissions to start with? Or is it a case with Jojo, as was with Caffe Nero that they'll just put it up and ride the planning storm afterwards...
  10. Thanks to fellow forumites, and not being bothered to cook last night, I persuaded Mr LWL to stop by on his way home and pick up a menu from Gold Lee. We ordered a vast selection from the delights on offer (my parents were over too and went a bit mad) and have to report that it was very delicious for all of us. So Gold Lee gets the thumbs up from me too. At last, I've found a local chinese that does a good all round menu. Nothing too fancy or 'out there' - what you see is what you get.
  11. Yes - this sounds like the guy that got me 6 months ago too. I only gave him a tenner instead of the full ?20 thinking he'd get the rest when done. Ha! Sounds like the same guy Muttley - he also said he was from 'Squeaky Clean' window cleaning in Brixton. Yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it!!?
  12. Now, I would say that I'm not the particularly trusting type. But in the last year I've managed to be duped by ALL of the above. the woman who's mate's a neighbour and has run out of petrol - could she just borrow a fiver. Ooh you're a lifesaver. The ex-crim's with their discloths (I got a clothes defluffer, and actually it was about the same price as Sainsbury and saved me the trip) AND a lovely window cleaner bloke, who was just in the area and would send his guys round later. Could he have a deposit as they've been let down before... Now, am very wary about this type of thing. If I get ripped off again, hubby will disown me. And our windows are now filthy on account of NOT getting them cleaned after funnily enough the windowcleaner didn't come back. Anyone recommend a good windowcleaner, while I'm here?
  13. On the Rye, but slightly off topic (sorry) does anyone know when the cafe (if it is a cafe) will be opening??? it looks like its getting tantilisingly close, but no 'grand opening' signs that I've seen..
  14. does anyone know if the road has reopened again now? Having to actually work for a living today and needing to get home...
  15. A couple of months ago I was minding my own business, driving along up LL about to turn onto Sydenham hill by the Horniman, when CLUNK - an almighty bang and I had a flat tyre. A passerby stopped to help, thankfully, and picked up a massive pair of scissors that had got lodged in my tyre, then gone all the way round (trashing the wheelarch too - nice) and then gone flying onto the pavement - luckily not hitting any pedestrians. What muppet drops scissors on the road - or was it a 'prank' by the local scallys???
