  1. I've never done this, never heard of the fact that you should add the milk to really hot water. Just read the instructions on the box of formula to see what it says. 1. Boil Kettle 2. Leave kettle to cool for 30 mins 3. Measure out water into bottle - DO NOT ADD POWDER TO BOILING WATER DUE TO RISK OF SCALDING 4. Measure out powder into bottle, shake well. 5. Cool under running water if feed is too warm. So it seems that you in fact should NOT make the milk up with boiling water. What I do is sterilise bottles, boil water and add required amount to each bottle. Do up the lids and then when it comes to needing the feeds, I warm the water in the MICROWAVE (tut tut), for a few seconds, then add powder and shake well (in one move removing all the hotspots and only warming it to the correct feeding temperature). Then I feed straight away and ditch any leftovers within 2 hours. My issue with formula is that as she only has one bottle top up per day, we can't get through a full size pack of formula within the 4 weeks, nor can we get through a premix carton in 24 hours. It seems such a waste. We can just about get through a half size box of formula, and the only place I know to get that is the chemist on NX road. Anyone else know of other suppliers of the 400g boxes??
  2. Sorry to cross post, but it appears the thieves are back in action after spending all their cash at Xmas. Scooter drained last night. Anyone else? Off to report it now.
  3. Yes Tarot it appears that now the snow is gone the petrol thieves are back. Our scooters tank was drained again last night, as was our neighbours. And I thought they had given up after we stopped leaving any decent amount of fuel in it ... Back to the met site to report online then!
  4. Oh yeah - I've seen this. It's just Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!
  5. I know what you mean - after they've been in nusery for full days (to 6pm) it seems crazy. But Fairlawn do seem to think that its best in the long run in terms of settling in. It does mean that they don't start properly until 24th January though.
  6. Hi PRD I sent you a PM last night that covered most of these questions - let me know if you didn't get it...
  7. We used PAYE for Nannies, who were way cheaper than Nannytax about 3 years ago, and never had any problems. The calculations are pretty simple for them to do with their software, so I don't think it makes much difference who you use.
  8. Medised is a lot thinner in consistency than Calpol (haven't seen Calpol night), so might well go down easier. Have you tried putting it into a drink - squash or something, to disguise the taste?
  9. Hi There JAGS sports club has drop in sessions for several age groups on Saturdays and Sundays. For 5 year olds, the session is 9-10.30 both days and costs ?4/session. My son goes to this, and loves it!
  10. Have they got them back in stock then? Yesterday they let you order, but they are on 3-6 weeks delivery, so won't be in time for xmas
  11. My sister is getting our son junior scrabble, which is from age 5 on the box and has two versions of the game. There is also a toy story version of this. Great for spelling which he is really into at the moment. I sat down with him on Sunday actually and wrote his xmas list to Santa. A good way of focusing their minds and making sure you have a happy little one on the big day. You suggest the things they are getting anyway, then they add the plastic tat they really want! :)
  12. Thanks for the website tip LittleEDFamily - there are greetings cards and gift labels available to print on there too now...
  13. ljs - count me in too! I quite like the fact that each programme does teach them about marine biology - symbiosis might be a little advanced for 4.5 though!! :)
  14. Ha ha - theres also one for ?53 on Play.com (shipping from the US). Are the ones on Amazon marketplace in stock? amazon had them to buy but despatch was 3-6 weeks, so after Xmas :(
  15. Hi All has anyone seen anywhere with Octonauts books in stock? My son is mad on them and I thought I'd get a book for Xmas, but Amazon and the Book Depository are out of stock online until January. Tried WHSmiths in Beckenham today and also Chener books, but no joy. Thanks!
  16. Its a tricky one, and I think I would change my view for the larger nurseries. My son goes part time, and last week the nursery stayed open way longer than I'd have expected, only closing on Friday after their staff took 3 hours to get home every night. In that case, my nursery normally offers parents with part time children there the opportunity to take an extra day another week. Full time children don't get a refund though, but its a small business and the staff still need to be paid. I think its a good compromise, especially as the fees aren't *too* bad either.
  17. Well done to her, for getting the 'starring' role!! All downhill from here... Why don't you just take the baby in for her - double whammy then she'll get bonus points for having the real thing and you'll get a day to yourself :)) And after that 'helpful' piece of advice, sorry, don't have a doll I can lend - the only one in our house is surgically attached to my 4 year old as he tries to do everything I do for A.
  18. When I can get there, I'm going to try Decathlon at Surrey Quays - lots of snow stuff there. They might have an online shop too?
  19. does anyone know if buses are running from Peckham Rye eg 63 ?
  20. How's everyone finding getting out with a buggy? Mine is sturdy enough, but I'm still scared to take the little one out in case I fall over - she's only 2 months. Other problem is that we live up by the Horniman, on a very steep hill, which is treacherous for walking, but very good for sledging!! Shall I just stay put until I can go out and play with my 4 year old with someone looking after the baby?
  21. Hmm - yet another reason against abstaining from the booze :)-D Any type of ale in particular - would a budweiser suffice, as that's all we have in the fridge!! It might be along the same lines as the oats and pearl barley ideas - same kind of ingredients...
  22. Buggie - try holding her in the 'rugby hold' on that side, so it feels to her like she's on the preferred side (if that makes sense!!). It might be she's got a bit of stuffiness in her nose/ears which makes it more uncomfortable on that side for a few days.
  23. I was with the Brierley, and like you was always a bit fearful of using the pager, but I did towards the end and its good to get used to the system before you need to use it in labour! You could alternatively try calling the office from about 9am tomorrow - they start between then and 9.30 - sometimes they are there but don't pick up the phone but leave a message and someone will get back to you. I'd do that and if you've not spoken to anyone by mid-morning use the pager system.
  24. radnrach - I'm glad that the thread has gone the way I hoped!! :) Like you say, lots of conflicting info, and like the St Thomas' 'double negative' advice just to keep us feeling really guilty about everything, no medical professional would dare give a straight answer. Bottoms up!
  25. Thanks Ladies - you all seem to have the same opinion as me. So it was the BF workshop I got the 2 bottles stat from! Like you Supergolden, 2 glasses is my absolute limit anyway (and borders the headache territory anyway) so I shall continue to enjoy a glass when I feel like it rather than thinking "this is the 3rd one this week - should I?"
