  1. It wasn?t really my thing either, but the people I was with liked it and the moving dinosaurs were cool. Probably great if you like photos of shiny things for social media. It took us about an hour to get round so ?20 isn?t bad - we could have spent longer but it was really really cold.
  2. It was ?60 at Dulwich Dental Office (North Cross Road) as of a couple of months ago when I had mine cleaned.
  3. I tried to book waste collection on the Southwark website earlier and it didn?t recognise my postcode either, so possibly a general problem with the site.
  4. First AZ jab: shivering and slightly out of breath walking up hills, fine after a couple of days (had both of these but worse when I had Covid last year) Second jab: tired for a couple of days, again a mild version of what I experienced with Covid. In both cases taking paracetamol really helped.
  5. Pugwash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I looked twice for the one on Sydenham Hill near > Woodhouse last year but could not find it. Can confirm this one is still there, I used it on Friday. It's about halfway between the Sydenham Hill/Kirkdale roundabout and the Woodhouse, on the left hand side if you're heading towards Crystal Palace.
  6. I really enjoyed Ted Lasso on Apple TV (I got a free trial). It's about an American football coach who's put in charge of a premier league football team and has to win everyone around. It shouldn't work but it does - sort of a heartwarming family comedy, but with lots of swearing.
  7. Over the last few days I've received texts telling me that my payment to EE has been declined and that my parcel has a customs fee that needs paying. I'm not with EE and I haven't ordered a parcel. Sounds like the scammers are all stuck at home bored as well...
  8. Resurrecting this thread as I suddenly seem to have more reading time. I?ve just worked my way through the Jackson Lamb spy novels (Slow Horses, Dead Lions etc) by Mick Herron and really enjoyed them. They?re based in a run-down office where MI5 sends its failed staff and gives them menial work in the hope they?ll resign. The office is run by Jackson Lamb, a cold war spy who now spends his days drinking and (hilariously) abusing his team. Despite their low status the team inevitably find themselves in a spy plot and the books work as thrillers, but also as character studies and (laugh out loud) comedies. Really well written and deserving of the rave reviews, What?s everybody else been reading?
  9. Making sure the washing facilities in public toilets are fit for purpose so we can disinfect ourselves while we're out and about. Not a Southwark-specific problem, but I keep coming across sinks that only dispense cold water, automatically shut off after a few seconds or lack soap.
  10. Just saw Girl from the North Country, the Bob Dylan musical which is back in the West End and is as good as everybody says. I'm not a musicals person and only know Dylan's greatest hits but I loved it - story's not the most upbeat but the cast have fantastic voices and the music is stunning.
  11. I was on a train near Glasgow a couple of weeks ago - the feet on seats was still happening, but I watched the guard tell multiple people to take them off. He was politely firm and they all did what he said. As a Londoner it was a joy to watch, but sadly I'm not sure it would work so well down here.
  12. I took my last printer to the council recycling van that use to pop up in Dulwich Park periodically, but that was a few years ago and I can't find any mention of it on their website any more. Currys PC World do electrical recycling, but you would need to get the printer to one of their stores (or buy something for delivery) - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/recycle-1042-theme.html
  13. I have some Black Diamond poles from one of the outdoors shops in Covent Garden and they've been great. If you don't need anything fancy my partner got some much cheaper ones from Decathlon at Canada Water and she's been fine with them. In case you're not aware, you'll probably need to check them for the flight - the airlines view them as weapons.
  14. I go to Mango off Borough Market quite a lot - great if you're in the mood for a (slightly) fancy Indian. A bit pricy but the food's quite rich so you don't necessarily need starters and side dishes. www.lovemango.co.uk Also agree with Captain Marvel and JoeLeg on Champor Champor, great restaurant.
  15. From the QI twitter feed yesterday: "Dulwich Hamlet F.C. fans like to distract the opposing goalkeeper by reading aloud his old Facebook posts." Have any of you witnessed this? Did it work?
  16. Consent at the Harold Pinter Theatre is worth checking out. The early scenes are about a rape case, but the bulk of the play is about the lawyers who worked on it and the knock-on effects on their partners and relationships. Despite the subject it's laugh out loud funny, but makes some good points as well.
  17. Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat
  18. Really enjoyed Oslo at the Harold Pinter Theatre. It's the story of the unofficial talks organised by Norwegian diplomats between the Israelis and Palestinians in the early 1990s that led to the Oslo peace accords. Very witty script which I wasn't expecting given the subject matter, only slight downside is it's about 3 hours long.
  19. Also worth looking at the link from the official site (https://www.eticketing.co.uk/tottenhamhotspur/details/event.aspx?itemref=9910) - still has some tickets left and is a bit cheaper (=less expensive) Always worth checking out official sites in case there's some tickets left over, especially for less fashionable games. A guy at work picked up a ticket direct from Watford for today's Liverpool game for ?30 or so.
  20. Just finished Ozark on Netflix - a Chicago financial adviser relocates to rural USA (The Ozarks) with his family to set up a money laundering operation for a Mexican cartel. Has a certain amount in common with Breaking Bad in that it's about a regular guy getting into crime. Really enjoyed it, worth giving a go.
  21. Jenny1 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And I'm not giving the Labour leadership a get-out > either. How come we have such incompetent > individuals at the top of politics these days? The Economist published an interesting article on this the other week (link below but you might need to register). Summary: neither Labour or the Conservatives have their best people on the front bench - Labour's excludes anti-Corbyn MPs, the Conservatives' excludes those who are pro-EU. https://www.economist.com/news/britain/21723101-country-will-soon-go-bat-against-brussels-one-its-weakest-teams-decades I would add: too many career politicians. I can't think of many of the current crop who've achieved much outside parliament.
  22. I need to get to London Bridge today but see there's no trains from East Dulwich. Does anybody know if the rail replacement bus is likely to (a)Leave on time and (b)get me to London Bridge in the 25 minutes on the timetable? Or should I just jump on the 40?
  23. Agreed, a real shame, had some great meals in there. Yes, hope the new place retains the interior, and hopefully some of the personality as well.
  24. For those that missed it, England's under-20 side are into the final of the World Cup in South Korea on Sunday. First time any England men's team has made a world final since 1966. Since there's a lot of rubbish news around at the moment I thought it was worth highlighting, and hopefully good news for the senior side in a few years (assuming any of them can get a game in the EPL!).
