We didn't do classes as we have been living abroad, we bought some very nice signing board books and did a few a week, both children got on very well just doing that and were signing/ understanding an awful lot within a few weeks, I would recommend a book whilst you are waiting for a class to have a place.

Back home now from a trip away, having read half the 30 day book. I read it as blog 1= day 1 so doesn't matter how long you want between... I'm going with a post every other day. Posted today so next one is on Tuesday, that will be my day 1. Happy to have a guest post from someone whenever that day is? Would anyone have one from me?

Right book bought, when shall we start?

Ooh yes I'll join you kes, but you'll have to tell me more about this 30 day thing. Currently I am posting every other day, should I be doing it every day?? Clueless. Sorry.

jonbateson replied to AquaticPhotographic's topic in The Lounge
I attended the session they did in ed in march and it was fantastic, I highly recommend them, the pics are great and the price is brilliant too. My children are 1 and 3 and we have great pics of them both. -

Where is a good stopover on the way to/from New Zealand?
jonbateson replied to Grotty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We stopped in KL and stayed a night at the hotel in the airport, they have a lovely pool, restaurants etc it worked well for us, our children were almost 3, and 7 months. We did an overnight flight which I would also recommend. -
Resusable nappies - honest feedback please
jonbateson replied to monniemae's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just a follow up from the getting money back point, I have found that selling on natural Mamas website is the place to try this, it seems you can get a good price for good condition second hand. I got some lovely fuzzis from there. -
Resusable nappies - honest feedback please
jonbateson replied to monniemae's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We used them more with first than second mainly cos we were living abroad, but having used them I am def keen to keep using them. We have had a few different kinds (as we kept being given them second hand) we have tried mother care own brand which we really liked but the bigger size weren't as effective as the small ones, we have had mother ease and fuzzi bunz the fuzzis are my Fav. I don't use them when we are out as I don't like the idea of carrying dirty nappies about with me, but at home they are used all the time. In terms of extra work, it's just a load of washing every day-two days, so not a lot of work at all. Everyone has their favourites and in my experience, different brands suit different babies better. You can get lots of good quality second hand on the natural mamas site if you wanted to try some without the big outlay that there can be with brand new. For me the hard bit is drying, I don't want to use the tumble dryer as that seems to defeat the point, now that the weather is better, they can dry outside, ours dry v quickly, but it is something to think about. You will save money by using them and you will save more if you use them with any other children. Also there's the big issue of fewer nappies in landfill. I would say, get used to your new baby first, then try some out when baby is a few weeks old and you can deal with something extra, don't make it hard for yourself. -
They don't do half days but we love it there. My son started in January (he's 3) and he loves it and is doing really well, definitely recommend it.

NCT alternatives in the local area?
jonbateson replied to catalpa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had similar issues. I did the kings one and watched some obem so I knew about how complications might be handled. We had excellent midwives and a lovely home birth, so not an issue in the end. -
I would second going to a sling library, we have the ergo but dh uses it more than I do, I prefer a wrap, it fits me better. Look on www.naturalmamas.co.uk for a preloved one to reduce the cost.

Advice on how to budget please...
jonbateson replied to Grotty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
When it comes to food shopping, we do weekly meal plans and then buy what we need for the meals, sounds simple but it saves a lot of time and money and we hardly waste any food. We also have a slow cooker (?12 currently in sainsb) and do a pot full so there is always a meal for the freezer. -

How to stop kids sucking their thumb
jonbateson replied to pebbles's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Goodness at the risk of, but not trying to be offensive, why would you do that? If she only does it at night for comfort, why take that comfort from her. Have you been advised by a dentist to stop her? -
Party idea - Colour Makes People Happy
jonbateson replied to Katy Tonbridge's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have looked and often wondered what it was, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of signs/ info on the outside. Do you need to book? How much does it cost? What can you create? Do they do drinks etc? -
Quick survey for new mums - please help!
jonbateson replied to Racheleyre's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have just completed it. In question 2 you state that some or all might apply or not but don't give the option of none, I had to choose one to move on with the questions. Likewise 29 and 30 you need a none option on these questions. -
Forest Hill Road/Colyton Road Roadworks
jonbateson replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I just received a letter today informing us of the extension to the roadworks up to the cemetery, starting on 4th march. They are doing most of the work overnight to reduce traffic issues and will stop drilling at midnight (well that's alright then, not!)
