  1. It was not a misunderstanding, I just would have imagined a man of your advanced Latin knowledge to be able to conjugate a basic verb.
  2. macroban Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ridebam! > > Quotquot annos, quotquot menses? > > Well done macroban!! I see you've made great use of freetranslation.com, although who is doing the laughing? (as with English, a person is needed to complete the verb [eg: I laugh], otherwise it is simply the term 'to laugh'..). Don't worry too much, I believe you'll learn about that when you reach secondary school.. With regards to the comments from 4hw - your idea of everybody being equal is ridiculous. Would you be happy to have the same standard of person performing surgery on you, as well as serving you a burger at McDonalds? If everybody in life was of equal intelligence, who would govern the world? Further more, I guess everybody would have to drive the same car (or maybe that?s another objection of yours), all live in equal houses (I?m sure the council could offer you a nice flat overlooking the bus garage) and so on.. And what about jobs? There would be no need for anyone trying to better themselves, as all jobs would provide an equal wage. Why bother spending 7 years training to become an architect, if you could earn the same, with no experience, stacking shelves in Sainsburys.. Again, little research has been performed by you, as if you had looked into Dulwich, you would notice that they offer a large number of both bursaries, and scholarships to those who are unprepared to sacrifice? oh wait, sorry, I meant? who simply cannot afford the yearly fees. My apologies if some of my views have offended anybody, but I?m fed up with the comments being posted aimed at ones self, with the expectance of me putting up with them ? I didn?t send myself to Dulwich College, but am proud to say that I am an OA and nobody will ever change my view.
  3. From the unbelievably childish and immature comments posted, I guess it?s a waste of time pursuing matters further, although I would like to say the following.. Thanks to wikipedia, I have discovered the meaning of the past thread. If you are accusing me of being a ?spoilt kid?, you could not be any further from the truth. Although you may find it hard to believe, I was brought up on an ex council estate in Peckham. My parents made the decision to send me to public school, as the local state schools were of a poor standard. From making that decision, they sacrificed some of the ?normal? things in life (eg: yearly holidays etc..). I am not asking for sympathy, nor am I asking for praise ? but if my parents decided to spend the money they work for on my education, I cannot see why that should interfere with anybody else. If you choose to spend your income on the luxury?s of life, then good for you - I would have no right in objecting. Unless you actually bothered to see past your thoughts, you may notice that Dulwich is not full of rich, spoilt kids ? I am the first to admit that the occasional few are from a wealthy background, although I?m sure the same could be said when based on a state school ? but the majority are ?normal?. I am still not 100% sure why you have a problem with public schools, and/or the pupils, but if you decide to grow up a little and explain, then I would be interested to read on.
  4. macroban, would you mind explaining what is meant by your comment 'If it quacks like a spoilt kid...'
  5. snorky Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What a rubbish thread. > > does anyone care what a load of spoilt priveliged > kids get up to ? Snorky. Having read your comment, I felt somewhat annoyed at your arrogance towards private education. Up until last year, I was a pupil at Dulwich College, but was definitely not a ?spoilt kid?. As said in the above post, if you have such strong feelings regarding Dulwich College and/or public schools, why did you spend time reading and commenting? Out of interest, what is your problem towards people paying for a better education for their child, if they choose to do so? In the future, could you please either think more about what you?re saying, or just don?t bother saying anything at all, as I for one did not appreciate such a comment, (and the number of views/comments made on this thread proves that some people do have an interest in the topic). I await your reply. Regards. Thomas.
  6. Referring mainly to the comments made by Alan Dale, is there a reason for the slightly negative approach? Are you unable to feel somewhat proud of there being two players linked with the local area? Having been a pupil at Dulwich College up until last year, I know that football has only been taken seriously at the school within the past couple of years (introduced as a lesson with teams formed to represent the school), previous to this, the schools main sport was rugby. This is probably the main reason why none of the well known footballers attended the school. This being said, you may find that within a few years, there could be a number of ex-pupils playing football for major teams. Maybe I have misunderstood a number of the comments posted throughout this thread, but in my opinion, the overall feeling has been more negative than positive. This is annoying as although Dulwich is a private school, I feel it does not make much of a difference in this instance. If the school has helped produce two excellent rugby players, so be it.. don?t put the school down! Would similar comments been posted if the two players attended Kingsdale?
  7. Hi Everyone. Don't forget its Founders Day at Dulwich College tomorrow (Saturday).. It?s usually quite a good day especially with the concert in the evening along with the fireworks towards the end. If you've got time to spare, I would recommend it! (Sorry I know its not exactly East Dulwich, but still thought it was worth mentioning!)
  8. Hi Eccentric. What a shame, but thank you for looking out for me! Maybe (just maybe) something will come along sometime. Anyway Thanks Again. Thomas.
  9. Eccentric. Thank you for your message. Do you know whether there is any information about this premise available on the internet (I have just had a quick look on google, but wasn't very lucky). If not, is it just worth taking a walk up their sometime to have a look at it. I really appreciate the information you have provided me with, thank you very much! Kind Regards. Thomas.
  10. eccentric : Oh right, thats not too bad then. Its not the most practical solution, but certainly something I will keep in mind if I am unable to find an A3 premises. Going back to the beginning, for you to ask this question does that mean you know of a possible premises? Thank you once again. Thomas.
  11. Chantoozie : Thank you for the advice! :))
  12. Hi eccentric. Thank you for your reply and answers to my questions.. Do you know whether it would be possible to prepare cold food (eg: salads..) in an A1 premise? Otherwise, im guessing its basically waiting to do what you suggested, and purchase an existing business. Kind Regards Thomas.
  13. Thanks Dulwichmum, great advice! HAHA!!! eccentric. To be honest, I am yet to find out full information on the different laws on A1 and A3 premises. I?m guessing (from your comment) its possible to prepare food from a separate location and then reheat it at an A1 premises (is this correct?) Is that as much as you can do in an A1 premises (as far as preparing food goes)? Is there a way of converting an A1 premises to allow food preparation? (sorry for all the questions) I suppose this could work (being able to prepare food within the premises would be useful, but I wouldn't totally dismiss this idea). Thank you once again! Thomas.
  14. Hi Dulwichmum. Thanks for that - I might take a walk down Lordship Lane in a little while (if it doesn't start to rain) so I'll have a look for the shop you?re referring to. Thanks Again! Thomas.
  15. Hi Everyone. Following from my previous thread, I am looking into setting up a healthy/organic (and possibly vegetarian) restaurant/takeaway in the area. I was just wondering - does anybody know of any empty premises in East Dulwich (or surrounding areas) available to rent? It would be great to find somewhere which is already suited to a restaurant/takeaway but if not, I am willing to convert it (if it is possible/allowed). I am interested in all premises types including restaurants (with seating), takeaways or kitchen units suitable for delivery only. I have already had a look on the Hindwood Hunter Payne website, but didn?t find many results within the area. I truly appreciate all comments I receive from this post! Kind Regards. Thomas.
  16. Regarding the 'dogs need exercise' comment - why not go cycling with the dog.. I've seen people in Dulwich Park cycling with their dog (but still on the lead). That way, everyone can be happy!
  17. Hi. I like some dogs, but think its right that in a park/public place with other people around, they should be kept on a lead. It seems that all dog lovers believe that everybody loves dogs, which isn't the case. I know a few people who are not so keen on them coming up to them etc.. Also, I understand that not all dog owners are like this, but I hate it when your walking over the park/down the road and you come across dog poo!!! If the dog is on the lead, the owner should be able to see that the dog has left something, and then be able to clear it up - whereas if the dogs are running free, its unlikely the owner will see what the dog has done. I think its very inconsiderate to others when people leave the dog mess around - its their pet so they should tidy up after them.. As I say, I understand that most people do tidy up, but there are still a large number of people who don't bother! By all means enjoy having a dog, but I don?t think it should affect people who are not so interested in them.. This is just my opinion. Thomas.
  18. Hi James (and everybody else). A few days ago I posted a message on this site about a healthy/organic restaurant, and had a number of people comment that it should include vegetarian meals. This is something I am currently working on and hoping to get it set up asap! From the replies I received on my post, there are a number of other people currently thinking about the same idea... (so I don't think you will have to wait very long before something arrives to the area!) I just have a question : what are peoples opinions on a restaurant which has a large vegetarian menu (but not necessarily a totally veggie restaurant?). As I have said on my post, the restaurant I am working on will be aimed towards the Dulwich area, and I believe that involving the area as much as possible is the best way to work on this type of project, so all comments (whether good or bad) will be a HUGE help!! I appreciate all messages. Kind Regards. Thomas.
  19. Hello Everyone.. HUGE thank you for all your comments so far... It seems that most people think it is a good idea as long as it tastes good, and is reasonably priced (all sounds fair to me)! I appear to have been 'busted' by badger.. :-$ In reply to badgers comments : There is a friend but I orignally decided not to mention that I am considering going into a partnership with him for this idea. Before deciding/committing to anything, I wanted to find out some responses from people within the area (I am located in Nunhead, so not far, but wanted some responses from people in Dulwich). In response to Jamie, the company I am referring to is actually a Noodle chain - this healthy takeaway is a new idea my friend and I are thinking of working on. Deliverance is probably the closest company (I know of) to what we would like to set up.. I personally feel the prices of deliverance are pushing the boundaries (coming close to being over priced) but this is something we would work on. I feel that by involving the people in the area as much as possible would be the best way to work on this project.. We already have lots of ideas of our own, but welcome any further ideas/suggestions (whether good or bad) from anybody.. I apologies for not including all the information at the beginning of this post (I really hope I haven't annoyed anybody.. sorry!) :( Thank you once again. Kind Regards. Thomas.
  20. Hello Huguenot, I really appreciate your reply, thank you for your comments.. I believe the food on the menu would be a variety of salads, pasta dishes, meat and fish dishes, (maybe the occasion healthy version of traditional 'fast food' meal eg:burger/pizza) but as I say, all will be healthy.. I am unsure whether all of the items are organic (I will need to find out) if not, i'm guessing it would clearly state on the menu whether it is organic.. Thank you once again. Kind Regards. Thomas.
  21. Hi TillieTrotter, I really appreciate your reply, thank you for your comments.. Yes, I agree that the prices of the food would definatly play an important part on the idea. I guess, as long as they are not over priced (close to the prices of 'normal' takeaway meals) then this could work out.. I will try to find out some more information regarding food types and prices. Once again, thank you very much for your help! Kind Regards. Thomas.
  22. Hi SeanMacGabhann, I really appreciate your reply, thank you for your comments.. Its certainly something for me to think about. I suppose the main answer depends upon what the food is like? (as in, does it taste as good as a takeaway). Even though a normal takeaway meal can be unhealthy, the good taste makes it very appealing. So if the food were to taste as good (if not better) as a standard delivery, it could be a good idea.. Im sure the vegetarian meals are something that could be added to this type of restaurants menu (if they're not already on it). Once again, thank you for your help and honesty! Kind Regards. Thomas.
  23. Hi Everyone.. A friend of mine is looking into expanding his food delivery service across parts of London, with one posible area being East Dulwich. As I live close to the area, he has asked my opinions on his idea of expanding here.. An outline of the company : a delivery service which prepares fresh, healthy (and mostly organic) restaurant quality meals and delivers them straight to you home. I've told him I think it would be good for the area, but was wondering whether anyone here had any other opinions? Does anybody know of any similar restaurants already in the area? Do you think its a good/bad idea? Any suggestions would be truely appreciated.. Kind Regards. Thomas.
