  1. Yeah - my wife fell off yesterday - a few bruises and helped by a kind PRP dog walker
  2. Bit late maybe but ...... https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/cycling-in-ice-and-snow/
  3. Hi Gadge re " All a vindictive neighbour can do is insist on his own surveyor monitoring the works at the instigators cost." Do you really see this as "vindictive" - I've been in circs where we agreed to the "one surveyor for both" route, the job screwed up (RSJ's poking through our living room wall), surveyor said "what is the problem just push them back" and we had to go to Small Claim Court for judgedment on reinstatement costs plus costs of the surveyor we had to appoint etc. Not much left of relationship with neighbour after that! Far better to have your own from the start as a warning expecially if there are structural issues (subsidence) or boundary issues e.g. they build their wall over your boundary when e.g. filling in half of a side return
  4. And the expedition reports a 20 min delay on Overground to Norwood and Caterham train cancelled And on the other topic cyclists are strangely better off in traffic that those in cars especially if you have a window open or air flow system bringing in air from outside - partly to do with red blood cell count and NOx being heavier than air and cyclists being higher up than some vehicle drivers - http://www.conspec-controls.com/products/nitrogen-dioxide-gas-detector.asp
  5. OK - ta! Anyhow travellers have departed to try the oversgound with 5 hrs to spare - complete with climbing ropes ice axes and skiis - and hope not to use them before they get to Iceland :-)
  6. Rather than starting a new thread, can anyone provide info here? Has anyone used Honor Oak station today? I ask as our visitors propose to get back by train to Gatwick via Forest Hill and East Croydon and I believe the first leg is run by Southern and also Gatwick Express is also affected? We have looked here ....http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/strike/conductor-strike/
  7. The Bellenden gyratory is easy if you are a confident cyclist - if you are not it is not - you can see that from the people I see riding bikes on the pavement. For myself I before the building works started was getting cut up on a regular basis going south turning into the Gyratory - cars accelerate after the speed ramps into making the left into the gyratory. They would then either overtake / undertake on my right or left after depending on my road position and then pull across me to make the next right turn meaning I sometimes had to brake really hard. Just now the road is narrowed so that seem not to be happening - I just get folk behind me hooting - one bod last week yelled at me to get out of the ?f?.g way you c..t?
  8. "drivers almost can't drive at 20mph without their engine making a terrible noise -- it's longing to go faster " I'm afraid that's rubbish Sally Eva - I have a motor with 350 bhp - two stage turbo flat 4 - that happily burbles along at 20mph in third gear at 2000 rpm at 20mph in London and goes into roller skate mode when on motorways
  9. You could buy a Brompton an park it under your desk?
  10. And people working on it today
  11. Well one of the little b----s threw something at me as I rode past on my bike on the way home - missed of course as he mis-estimated my speed - and my ability to turn and grab him. Mind you Dad seemed to be about to do rather more to him than I was about to I believe that particular van is not there now

  13. >have somewhere to park your bike at home/work, and ideally a shower at work And have a set of clothes at work for work if you have somewhere to hang / store them

  15. Summat going on with access to the hub - bods on twitter saying they are not responding
  16. Interesting - I let our contractors park across our dropped kerb - are they at risk? And can I really not take action on someone else who parks? TIA all!
  17. Making it one way will make it a race track and cars will use it as a way to avoid the queues Change it at you peril local residents! Much better to put in bollards in the middle to allow cyclists through and stop rat running
  18. Accost an allotment holder? and then stand back of course - just in case like (an allotment holder elsewhere speaks)
  19. Just been there - took the dollars for my next trip and drew sterling on my own account as the exchange rate was all over the place on Friday. Waiting to see what happens re Euros
