thank you Saffron, that is exactly the information I didn't have that I needed. MAxfax were just involved initially. Her GP just told us to keep doing what we are doing re. scar gel but 5 months on I'd like to know where we go / if we go forward from here. This information is a brilliant starting point. Much appreciated.

Thanks as ever for recommendations. We were told to use Sun screen. We are using a scar gel kelo cote uv which has made a vast improvement. Initially the forehead was stitched and cheek laceration glued. The forehead was not a clean cut so more complicated to stitch so not a smooth scar, bit of bumpy tissue I guess, antibiotic cream and oral antibiotics as there was a lot if mud in The cuts. Max fax were super and we were signed off after a couple of weeks. We just want to do as much as possible to minimise scarring. She never once complained but suddenly has us worn down with her behaviour. Thanks, Claire

Hello, My 4 year old daughter had a bad fall in March that left her with facial scarring. We were treated by the wonderful Max Fax team at Kings but several months on I would value the advice of a specialist to know that we are doing the best to minimise her scarring. Would anyone have experience of seeing a professional in South London/Greater London that specialises in children that they could recommend ? Also potentially as a result of the accident or just being 4, my daughter is being very difficult, complete oppositional defiance. We are just struggling as every morning has become a battle that is resulting in everyone in tears. I am thinking I might need professional insight to help me know how best to proceed as this has not been an issue with my other child and I am struggling, it is probably more me who needs to learn to help her. Rereading Calmer Easier Parenting is just not going to cut it right now. If anyone has any recommendations on either issue it would be much appreciated. Claire

JulieW, have pm'd you. Re baby/toddler groups in Penge area generally. I have one in preschool and an 8th month old so not as frequent an attendee of baby groups this time round, however would recommend as follows: Little Fishes,St johns church, Penge High Street Monday 9.30 - 11am. ?2 for family. Good space and nice group. Term time only. The library on MAple road, has sing a long nursery rhymes on Thursday mornings, 10am. Small space. They are moving to bigger premises in the summer, but nice children's space and they make a real effort. First Wednesday of every month they open specially from 10 to 11 30 for a childrens themed creative story and make and do time. Beckenham library down next to beckenham spa and the Buzz zone also good Community vision on oakfield road has some good groups, messy play Fridays from 10am, but can get really busy and full before 10 as is a good space and facility. They do baby weighing and health visitor stuff as well during the week so a very useful facility. Sydenham library did close but has reopened I believe although I am not familiar with timetable or what is available. As mentioned above the Buzz handy for wet days. Gambados has been shut since Christmas due to storm damage. Cafe deli nene in beckenham handy as has coffee and play area. Great parks in the area, cator, Crystal palace, MAyou, Alexender Rec, Croydon park road. If it is dry we are in a park. Hope this helps. C

Hello, This was my concern too especially as my back up friend went on holiday the week I was due and we have no family about. Do you have a regular childminder or babysitter? I was so lucky, my childminder told me to call her any time of day or night and she would take my daughter. My daughter had a great time and I didn't have a single worry, luckily it was daytime and I had textbook quick second labour. Also a couple of neighbours offered to help out. Is there no one you can ask? I wouldn't mind if a friend called me any time of the night to ask this favour. I do completely understand your concern though. If it is any consolation I managed by myself for an hour before my husband came home. Good luck with everything.

A few years since I went out in Dublin unimpeded by children so this is likely to all be out of date. Odessa for brunch www.odessa.ie was always necessary to book, Ely wine bar, several locations, nice in the afternoons, wasnt mad about their food personally. The best pubs we found we always wandered into by accident. Used to stay in ballsbridge. Just to add Ripper st all filmed in Dublin and in second episode this series they were in the newly renovated National Museum, not too big and some interesting stuff. Looked great on screen.

Baby friendly moth extermination - pls help!
Beagle replied to shaunag's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Light and air. Get everything out of the wardrobe, air in sunlight and dry clean or wash, bag and into freezer if it is a fabric attractive to moths. They don't tend to stay out in the open so where baby will be crawling should be ok. Dark corners, crevices, under beds, their preferred homes. If you hoovered up eggs and general moth debris get that bag emptied and into the rubbish as it is the perfect breeding ground for moths. The pheremone traps v highly recommended on forum but if you can eliminate the eggs etc that is a head start. Given the relatively mild winter they will probably be hatching soon. My husband had a Pringle jumper (unwanted parental gift) that was like a colander! K&o pest control do the moth sticky traps they might be able to advise how best to control too but the traps are fairly widely available. I don't like them either and have been known to balance on chairs heavily pregnant trying to swat them like a loon. The only good clothes moth being a squashed one in my book. Do a search on forum there is lots of good advice as common issue. -
I would go with it. Be child led. If he is expressing an interest that is preferable to later trying to interest a reluctant potty trainee in my book. Our daughter was 2.8, at least, when we began in earnest. She had a new sibling so likewise I was reluctant to introduce a new thing on top of big changes, but due to positive peer pressure at child minders she asked to wear knickers so we went with it. Some may consider that old, I figured we'd sort it out before she started school so wasn't going to sweat it. He may change his mind, he may not, but if he sticks with it that saves a fortune in nappies. If he changes his mind you still have a foundation to build on in the future. I would be really proud of him for trying at this age.

We are in Penge east near Alex Rec and it is a lovely area. Both Sydenham and penge high streets are improving all the time and agree with MrsBee although low on restaurants both Crystal Palace and Beckenham have both in abundance. I loved my many years in East Dulwich but haven't ever felt I am losing out ( although no equivalent of EDF which is why to many of us gatecrash)and in terms of doctors surgeries am better off. Any specific activities you are looking for SE22newmum?

Refocusing career after maternity leave
Beagle replied to Beagle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Susan, hijack away, we can form a support group! Katgod, my impression was that Prince 2 had become a bit old hat. I asked a recruiter today about how worthwhile it was and he said not to bother.I will keep investigating and see what I turn up. Agree lean is the word of the moment. -
I am wondering if any of you ladies can advise. I intend to return to work post baby 2, although since I went on leave in May the company has restructured twice and there have been lots of redundancies in my division, I work in print publishing. Regardless of whether I return to current job or have to find a new one I recognise, due to the squeeze from recession and downturn in publishing generally, that I need to reboot and refocus my skills in order to stand out. I can see that the most valuable skill required now in my sector is not creativity but cost delivery, understanding how to deliver change and value for money. I am seeing the concept of "change management" crop up as a skill requirement more and more often. I have two kids and am time and cash poor. I can't afford to start an MBA financially or time wise (unless I can circumvent the need to sleep entirely! ) however I do want to do a course that will help me understand finance and might cover the methodologies of change or project management. One that is possible to fit in around kids/ working /attempting to run a home. I have seen the 5 day knowledge tree type project management courses etc, do these offer practical value? My searches are not turning up much so would appreciate if anyone has done any similar course or has any advice. In 15 years I have witnessed the 40 something, mothers, manager level being made redundant with each restructure. That's what I am now so recognise my vulnerability and want to reposition myself sooner rather than later. Any pointers gratefully received.

Isn't it anaemia? i am only mildly so which manifests as feeling tired and generally run down and would imagine if you get very severely anaemic it would lead to all the symptoms you describe but the treatment would be the same, high dose of iron. What a pity your surgery didn't let you know. I would ask the pharmacist when you fill the prescription I find pharmacists great sources of info and advice. X

2 year 9 month gap. We read a couple, best was The Baby(but I would have liked a hamster) by India Knight. Libraries a very good source. I told my daughter when I was 5 months and had a big old bump already that she was oblivious to. She would holler down my top "hello brother/sister" as we didn't know what we were having. I involved her a Lot towards the end prepping the clothes, crib etc which she enjoyed. Congratulations.

Looking for a little Rastamouse figure
Beagle replied to HollieES's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you have had no luck I would try contacting the publisher, BBC magazines I think, they might have library samples lying about. I used to order these kinds of add ons and always had a drawerful of samples I was happy to offload on request. -

carcinogen and paraben free baby wash: anyone?
Beagle replied to EatLessBread's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I thought that might be the case. It's carried very extensively by pharmacies in Ireland where I initially came across it but not so widespread here yet. We use the shampoo too, good for cradle cap. Undiscovered we are an equally minging household. I use a bit of weleda calendula stuff for feet and suchlike but otherwise just water in the bath every other day and hair every 10 days. Those ads with newborn babies covered in bubbles freak me out. -
Did you have a great 2nd or subsequent birth?
Beagle replied to reren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Congratulations to both reren and buggie there is nothing as lovely as a warm, snugly little baby on your knee as you sit and watch Masterchef and pleased you both had wonderful positive births. -
Hello, neighbour gave my daughter a Barbie for her 3rd birthday recently. I wasn't thrilled but it has been absorbed into general play rather than exclusive Barbie time so she goes around riding a camel. It would not have been my choice, but neither are Baby Anabels and all that. The alternative Barbie style but definitely not pink, and I have looked, is Monster High dolls . . . I have a girl who just loves pink. She also loves climbing trees. Barbie isn't a harbinger of doom.

Lovely new kids theatre production on now
Beagle replied to akd's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for heads up. We went this morning and best of all babies welcome. Normally can't do theatre things with 3 year old midweek as babies not allowed. Both mine, 3 years and baby were enthralled. Exactly the right length. Not my favourite OJ book but they did a great job. X -
Tips for re-settling a 3 month old back to sleep in cot
Beagle replied to Ginster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There is a recent thread on putting sleepy baby down awake that might have some tips. In my own experience as we are having this with 20 week old at moment is possible that with the change in weather she doesn't like being put back in a cold cot and the contrast in the temperature is waking her. Or is she having a growth spurt and needs to feed more, google sleep regression. This certainly made sense for us. When ours was a newborn she didn't like cold or space in Moses basket, so I wound linen clothes into a snake shape and put round her, not too close, so she would feel more enclosed when she was flailing. Worked at that time. Also used to put a not too warm grain bag thing, those things you heat in microwave, in to warm her bed for 10 mins to take chill off, admittedly not ideal practice at 3am but needs must. The only other thing I have used successfully with both mine is when I put them down I keep my hand on their chest for 30 seconds or a minute and they tend to settle in this time. I'm not sure why I started doing this years ago, advice from here possibly. I guess they don't feel so abandoned. Personally I think babies like to feed more when the weather is colder. It's a pain once they have started sleeping through though to have this reversion. I definitely feel the broken nights more than the new born days.
