CPZ in Dulwich Village ward to go live on January 6
CPR Dave replied to Glemham's topic in Roads & Transport
Gilles Crescent seems to be the source of a huge number of problems in this area. thye all have massive drives with double garages and numerous cars. I think the council should gate off the East Dulwich Grove end of their road too and tell them to go f*** themselves. -
Incident on Rye Lane late evening 5th Dec
CPR Dave replied to mac4's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Looks like this? https://www.mylondon.news/news/south-london-news/peckham-rye-lane-stabbing-sees-30526737 -
It's really not a very good letter. It doesn't say anything at all about the services they provide that people actually pay for in droves that commercially justify keeping it open. It might as well have said " you're only useful for providing free banking to old people and you should stay open no matter how much that costs you." When the Post Office read that they will probably fast track its closure. This is the problem when you have politicians with no commercial acumen. They argue that businesses should do stuff that sends them insolvent. Edited to add: On reflection I would not be surprised at all if they've already been tipped off that this post office will stay open and this letter is just a soft touch but cynical signal that our local politicians fought so hard to keep it open.

Police presence in Crystal Palace road
CPR Dave replied to Chicken's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's weird. They've been there a few days parking in the disabled bays with their engine idling. Some of them shop8ng at Tesco and coming back. -
That's very disappointing. That sign should be listed and have squatters rights. It's iconic. The Malibu one.

The new tax rules don't just apply to farmers. They apply to every single family owned business. If you've created a small family run business and you pass it on when you die your children will have to pay the new inheritance tax. Doesn't matter if its a farm or a clothes shop or a fruit and veg business, all of them are caught.

It doesn't look like it https://www.southwark.gov.uk/southwark-presents?f[0]=check_what_s_on_in_different_areas%3A239

In the old days you used to be able to access the actual Dulwich by turning left there and travelling down eynella road. Someone asked James McAsh to look into updating the sign when they closed those roads to Dulwich and I think he said he'd look into it when he used to visit this website.

What a racket.

They did the same under the Tories though? "The Southwark element of council tax has been increased by 4.99% (2% adult social care precept plus 2.99% local increase) for 2024- 25, being the maximum local council tax increase permitted without breaching the government referendum cap of 5%. 8 Feb 2024"

Hard to understand this when it is always so busy there are people queueing down the road to get in.

Beware of fake ‘ticket inspectors’ on trains

Perhaps by putting some comments in there along the lines of your objections. "The document is unclear because it doesn't specifically state that this is a change on policy by the council, effectively banning new loft conversions in the face of statutory permitted development rights. The document should state this clealry in large bold font and highlight how unfair that is and that it is likely to lead to judicial review." I don't know if any of the above is actually correct though.

They should turn into a hostel for homeless people or asylum seekers. You could fit good quality accommodation on that site for four or five hundred refugees.

CPR Dave replied to Rockets's topic in Roads & Transport
An alien from another planet may actually surmise that the cyclists of SE London are very problematic ... -
Dulwich Roads: engage brain before posting..
CPR Dave replied to Rockets's topic in Roads & Transport
Thanks for posting this - very enjoyable commentary. It does highlight a very serious problem round here though of cyclists who have no respect for the law or for other people using the footpaths. -
Southwark council survey on bins on the street
CPR Dave replied to trinidad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Pretty sure Rollflick has it right. Many of these streets have a CPZ already. This council and this cabinet member have form for reclaiming the streets from evil car owners. I suspect this is another thinly veiled land grab and the result will be less car parking and more new bin storage zones in what used to be the highway. -
The motor industry has been supersizing cars for years mostly to comply with EU safety legislation to protect cyclists and pedestrians in low speed collisions.

It's not just the volume of traffic, it's also the weight. All the new electric cars people buy are 50% heavier than petrol cars. A Tesla saloon weighs nearly two tons, more than most of the metaphorical 2 ton metal box ICE SUVs that environmentalists get so angry about. The majority of EVs weigh more, closer to two and a half tons. The Volvo EX90 weighs almost three tons. All these "clean" cars are having huge impact on the built environment.

How do you contact Glazer Delmar Solicitors?
CPR Dave replied to lilolil's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have had some (very limited) correspondence since they closed via enquiries@lawcentral.co.uk (originally addressed to enquiries@glazerdelmar.co.uk). Worth emailing both and seeing what comes back I would say -
Dulwich Village CPZ Statutory Consultation
CPR Dave replied to Charles Martel's topic in Roads & Transport
It's no longer limited to the council The government now are also doing all sorts of things they told people thst they wouldn't. There's a lot more pain and broken promises to come locally and nationally. One day the scales might fall from voters eyes -

One more term coincides with the timing of the new Labour Party VAT regime on school fees. -
What a liberty. It makes it so hard to park a a 4x4 across the curb on that corner.
