  1. My daughter went to one when she was 9 where they had a non professional family friend do it as described by Lindsey<3, was fine and all loved it. Just need 1 or 2 peeps who will indulge the girls.
  2. My mum-in-law is in hosp and we are wondering what to do with her approx 5yr old Irish terrier cross. She is currently home alone with neighbours and family visiting to walk and feed etc but this not a long term solution and no idea how long care is needed for. We have two cats and the dog is not cat friendly (nor particularly great with other dogs). She is not vicious but is nervy, and happy with visitors and is used to a calm quiet household. Does any one know of foster careers for pets? Thanks.
  3. Not one child on their own but multiple kids terrifying prospect for most would be car jackers.
  4. Pretty obvious our green bin had been sifted through a few weeks back as the bin bag was ripped open, in Bellenden area.
  5. Do it online via the Southwark Council website. No hanging on and they will put a ref nos in a response email. V dull but they have v useful pages on rubbish collection and probs :)
  6. The corner is fine for competent drivers of regular cars but not for anything with a longer section between wheels. Yes coaches and articulated lorries need to be banned but the corner also needs to be safe for medium sz vehicles for those delivering or providing services such as removals, building work and DIY etc.
  7. I think we cross-posted. I still don't think he did anything unreasonable.
  8. It didn't look aggressive at all. He introduced himself and told them what he wanted to talk to them about. We don't know if they phoned in advance or not. Otta you were assuming they didn't but we just don't know. This is all irrelevant, it is the nursery that needs investigating not a local news reporter who knocked on the door. It's an odd state of affairs when people seem more concerned about a reporter knocking on the door than the child going missing and from all accounts the nursery not seeming to care or even have noticed. 'Child escapes from nursery' is a headline 'man knocks on door' is not.
  9. You guys are right. In a regular vehicle it doesn't take much to negotiate the corner properly. I need to stop sympathising with incompetents!
  10. The reporter and cameraman did not try to gain entry to the nursery, they simply asked to speak to the person who answered the door. They did not barge in and film the kids or identify them and nor would they, they are professionals. If the nursery closes it will be as a result of its own failings and not because of a local news report on a worrying local issue.
  11. Oh dear just passed a couple examining the damage to their car, scrapped all down the passenger side on the bottom panel beneath the car doors. The driver said he didn't see the bollard as too low :( I noticed all the tarmac is cracked around the bollard too, not really sure how much more it will take. However, glad the bollard is stopping pedestrians from being hit as cars take the corner too tightly.
  12. Oh yes coaches. We had a Dutch teacher from a coach knock at our door recently at 9.30pm asking if we could move a car so their coach could get around the corner from Maxted into Nutbrook. I agreed to move it but pointed out that they wouldn't actually be able to get around the Nutbrook / Ady's corner further along. The driver went off to investigate and realised there was no way he could do it so tried to go the other way down Nutbrook but then hit the bollard at the top of Maxted outside the converted corner shop. It was all a bit of a mess and they ended up blocking up the junction for about 20 mins. He said he had made one wrong turn and then all had gone wrong following the sat nav re-routing. I felt really sorry for them. Much better signage is needed ahead of those tight corners.
  13. It's the second I have seen. A guy a couple of weeks ago got the middle of his car stuck on it - one wheel either side. Cross that they have driven over the payment but also sympathetic. Is it really so much worse than the other corners around here? Does Amott and Adys have the same probs?
  14. Didn't make it this year and thought it was just me but was deterred by the thought of spending a fortune on overly short goes on bouncy castles etc by grumpy unfriendly people. Detracts from the fab friendly stall holders. Whenever Southwark council do their free bouncy castle for tots that is usually fab, well run and v friendly.
  15. Defo did the right thing reporting it. Don't leave your curtains / blinds open. Usually one person casually scans the houses then zooms in on possible empty ones, has a good old nosey and then calls to their mate who is lurking in nearby bushes to help break-in.
  16. We got the wooden things from Ikea with the plastic slide in storage boxes. They get pulled in and out so much that you need something sturdy and easy to clean. You will defo get prettier for more money but make sure it very hardy and not going to look trashed in 6mths. The good thing about plastic is that it is very easy to clean :)
  17. Friends of Fabric on Bellenden Road for dry cleaning duvets. It is quite pricey anywhere though so depends on how much you spend on duvets and whether or not you may as well chuck it and buy a new one. I just paid ?12.50 for a single duvet to be cleaned or yes try DIY as sanity girl suggests.
  18. And they are massive. Have had close encounters with two this year so far and they are like sparrows!
  19. We have moved on from those laughable Bellenden Village days and back to Bellenden Road - it is standing up in its own right.
  20. I saw the council guys taking the taller bollard out yesterday and asked them what was going on, they said it is to be replaced with another bell bollard like the one by the postbox side - fingers crossed!
  21. Echo Dodie to definitely go via PALS - a great friendly, patient focused helpline. I have used them in the past. Kids blood tests are a pain. Dulwich Hosp does not do children and so for most GP practices it is the appt referral system as Kings, which is hugely over-subscribed. Good luck.
  22. Back to Peppa - it is a bunch of cartoon pigs running around in clothes and living in a house. It is so far removed from reality that I find it difficult to take its story lines and character development seriously or as a reflection on modern life. You need a big pinch of salt - preferably on the crackling! Kids learn their attitudes to others from the real people around them. That all sounds v serious and its not meant to - Peppa is just frivolous, take it or leave it.
  23. Can't help on the tablets sorry but I was a spectacularly car pukey child. I found travelling in the front, with the window slightly open and water to sip helped massively. Eventually, grew out of it and rarely experienced it as an adult. Good luck, really no fun for anyone.
  24. Toys is somewhat taking the p**** and the big chains cashing in on often poor quality costumes too. Anyway I for one am now recovering from this year's world book day traumas.
