  4. Sorry, my keyboard isn't typing some letters... I went by on the bs as it was happening. Some people who witnessed it, got on board. They were very affected by the incident and described how the dog had got agitated when its owner, who had a baby, tried to dash for a bs. It sank its teeth into the woman's foot/shoe and she screamed for help. One brave man came forward to help and pressed down?? on the dog's neck?? According to the others, he was a real hero and saved the woman from a really bad attak. The hero got off the bs in Camberwell. Don't know if anything else happened...emergency services were there. No one mentioned a child.
  5. ...and don't leave it till the last few days of term when the staff room is awash with goodies. Do your 'thank you' card and goodies next week!

  14. My daughter used the cushions with the first baby, but not the second... Do read the notes on http://www.backinaction.co.uk/tripptrapp (the Back in Action site - a really good company to buy from ), especially if you are buying a second hand chair: IMPORTANT: If your Tripp Trapp Baby Set pre-dates 2008; the latest cushion sets don't fit the high backed wooden babysets that were sold in 2007 and earlier. You can however fit the latest cushion sets to any Tripp Trapp for children above 18months (i.e. after the baby set is removed.)
  15. It might be a way of 'training' children for entrance, but it is also just plain common sense! I have taught children in the early years since 1970, mostly in schools where parents would not have heard of entrance exams. My children were always taught how to form letters correctly right from the start in lots of structured, but playful ways. They learnt the other foundation skills of letter names and sounds in ways that they loved. As a result, they started school with foundation skills that sustained them throughout their educational lives. They liked it, so did their parents and so did subsequent teachers. I breaks my heart to see children who have been left to 'discover' these skills and the ways it affects their reading and writing.
  16. You might want to consider one that has a 'truckle' bed that fits underneath..brilliant for sleepovers!

  20. And that magic just gets deeper when you become a grandmother....
  21. It really depends whether you are looking long term or short term, and what your style is. The Tripp trapp http://www.backinaction.co.uk/tripptrapp just goes on being a useful seat right through life. It's versatile, adjustable, nice to look at, and ( speaking as a teacher) one important advantage is that your child can sit at the table at right height when doing activities, homework etc for years after. For a basic high chair, the IKEA one is a good short term solution, as is the lovely Baby Bjorn - very stylish in a white kitchen. http://www.amazon.co.uk/BabyBjorn-067021-Appetite-Highchair-White/dp/B003CFATG0/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1293799641&sr=1-1 Spoilt for choice? Good luck!
  22. Sorry to come in as the sober voice of reason again, but school staff are not allowed to bring any used electrical item into school unless it has been checked and tagged by the LEA inspectors. If they did, and it caused a fire (it happens!), then they are held responsible. I'll leave the consequences of that to your imagination. It also means that teachers cannot bring their own old Christmas lights, CD players, microwaves etc to use in their classrooms, let alone heaters!! Whilst it might all sound fussy,it does mean that there are very strict regulations protecting our children's safety while they are in the care of a school, thank goodness.
  23. Considering the possible outcome of thirty very active and very young children + one adult + calor gas heaters; the alternative of having my child at home for a day is ok!
  24. Teachers are very real and do not make closure decisions. Those are made by managers and governors who have the statutory responsibility for the health and safety of hundreds of children and many adults. So...that's one teacher in one small room, 30 children (including those with behaviour issues),three fan heaters that have not been checked, no hot water in the washrooms or kitchens... not to mention a creaking electricity system coping with the sudden output of 50 odd fan heaters. Real??? :(
  25. It's such a difficult situation when the weather turns nasty and no one really knows what's going to happen. A brief glance at the posts today show how buses, trains and cars can be affected and how suddenly things can deteriorate. Not all members of a school community live within walking distance and school managers have to bear the responsibility of ensuring the health and safety of all. I received the same phone message today and thought it reflected a caring concern that all should get home safely.
