homeless man in wheelchair living outside harvester pub
TE44 replied to tigerranks's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sweetgirl, I believe you mean well but a family home with young children may not be the ideal place as Gaynor has said above. For families with grown up children living at home, there would have to be a joint agreement reached, if there was the room. There are struggles within families due to the housing crisis. I actually agree with hellosailor, it was easier for me when i was single and had a room to offer help than it would be after I had my family. I'm not meaning for you personally, I do not know you circumstances. Do you believe if you could, you would be able to overcome the changes to your life this would bring. -
The forest of hours by Kersten Ekman. Loved this book it's a travel through time with a troll like creature.

Hi Simon, I know you asked about empty homes but are you aware of thread ined issues section regarding the disabled man who has been living outside The empty Harvester on Lordship Lane. This is a situation many local people feel helpless after a certain point. The fact this man seems to have been evicted from the garden, regardless of it actually not against the law for him to squat inside the building. Does your project have movement to connect and include local people as i believe there area group of local people looking at this empty building, with a mention of people who have been camped in the grounds. Good luck.

https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/housing-crisis-weve-got-four-empty-council-homes-street/ Here is an article from Sept, whether these houses are still empty I cannot say. Are you looking for a house in a particular area? Are you looking at council houses or private?

It's funny how you attach meaning to words you've grown up with, its often not until someone whose first language is not English asks the meaning, you realise they don't make sense egbelieve you me, I was up to high doh.

I know Angelina, when it became law for events to be fenced, it made it impossible for many free festivals to continue because of costs.

Jules- and-Boo, gay pride and the cannabis festival were free festivals and open to all. No there was no guise. It was donations. It wasn't the case of cordoned off local people not being able to use the park.

Housing that encourages community is needed, consultation should be open to community participation, communication that is not just about getting through legal hoops but actually trying to come together with the people whose community is being redeveloped.

Thanks Jenny. I can't understand how stonegate can pay this sort of money, I'm assuming there must be a law holding them to this lease. Who is responsible for the maintenance of this building? When a building lies empty this length of time and owners are allowed to continue recieving money, any profit outside of any government charges (which I have no idea about) should be given to the community to decide how this money is best spent,

Itatm I wondered about this, it seems to be saying being homeless comes with being a criminal or vice versa. Is there a local community group taking action, to press Dulwich estate into action, via social media or press. I'd be interested to know what rent is being paid for this empty building. Does anyone know.

Thanks blah blah you have reminded me of a paper I read asking for local councils to have more power to use CPOs. I will look later. -

If he has been given shelter by an organisation, they would not be allowed to give out any information, as no one seems to have seen him and there is no news report I can find, I'm hoping he has been given shelter. It is obscene this building has stood empty for so long and padraic had the threat of being evicted whilst in hospital. A couple of years ago a young man died freezing outside an empty bungalow after a court order stopping him from re entering (squatting) this building was given. He died freezing outside. I have asked James (councillor) what the outcome of the public meeting was in regards to any action that can be taken, i realise the rent is still being paid and there may be laws that protect property owners but I am sure the council can take action against owners leaving buildings empty. -

Hi James, could you possibly put up a link of the meetings for the Grve Tavern public meetung held in October i cannot fund it anywhere. As you are probably aware, there is great concern for the homeless man who has been living there especially after the fire. I would realy appreciate what the outcome was of the public meeting and what action if any is being taken by Southwark council. Thank you. -

JoeLeg, i get what you are saying, people have been able to help after reading this post. I also get what Peckhampam is saying, I've assumed the people who have met him through this thread have told him about this discussion, can anyone who has spoke with him say whether or not he is aware of this discussion. -

I don't really feel there needs analyse over why a mother is feeding there child in a particular place, should there be rules depending on assumed intent or is this only a reality for people who believe there may be intent with the mother who may or may not have underlying issues. -

I get that Nigello have you any suggestions what mothers can do when faced with people who have a problem with them feeding there child. It is very difficult to break through diffrences when each side cannot hear the other. I suppose it would depend on how I was approached (although my days of breastfeeding are long gone) I did not meet anyone who expected me to stop feeding my children. This thread has reminded me of my sister in law we were visiting with our first born, she almost ran from the room when she saw i was breast feeding, she said it turned her stomach and genuinely felt sick. She couldn't give any reason why she felt like this, but did not expect me to go into another room as she did. I suppose its easier to deal with when its people you love. -

Yes the theory we all rub along together and an attempt to understand others may be made for this to happen but when someone has a problem with nature and basic survival then i really do think it is for the person with this problem that must try to understand what its about. I was the first person in my family to breastfeed and there was an uncomfortableness around it with my first, i could understand it as after all they were my family. Whos children were to grow up and make the same decisions to feed there children, of course they got over it, and actually recognised it as a choice. We live in a world where people are more and more unconnected with nature as someone says above this is not some anti social trend it is survival.
