Blah blah. I get what you're saying and theres no doubt this money could be used to help Jamal and his family. I think by hearing of cases where no help was offered and people have had to fund therapy themselves, others having to do without what should be offered, does not show decency nor caring within institutional systems for the thousands of people who feel isolated and unable to get the help and protection for there children. It is more important that the families are all shown some decency and offered help for the damage done.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/education-46263401 I don't mean to go off topic but link above is a case this week where a local authority paid out for not being able to protect a child. The family had to pay for counselling for this child whilst fighting the authority. I wonder what support has been offered to Jamal and his family before this vid was released.

Bullying along with physical and sexual abuse are problems many schools are struggling to deal with. There are many parents who have been faced with schools unable to respond in a way that has stopped horrendous experienced there children are going through. It worries me that bringing money into this may create a diversion from the bigger problem. I cannot find anything on the page for funding that suggest how money would help.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/11/28/police-investigating-attack-syrian-refugee-huddersfield-school/amp/ This incident happened on the 25th of October, shortly before this incident the police investigated another incident regarding the young boys wrist injury. This article above says the incidence in the vid was an on going investigation. Now another vid has been found on phone of his sister also being bullied. I understand people wanting to help but I don't understand how money can deal with this problem. Unless being able to help move the family. This needs to be investigated individually as in any incidents, as it also needs to be recognised this is a common occurence.

This is a horrendous story, it has taken this vid to be filmed for it to be news. Even though it is being reported his arm was fractured under a similiar situation. It us also being relorted his sister has also suffered at the hands of bullies. Bullying is a huge problem in education, an intolerance to differences on many different levels, although this is recognised there are many parents not satisfied with how this is dealt with. There have been suicides linked with bullying, but we never hear of what is learnt from action taken.

A friend of mine, was given a voucher for the food bank, Peckham, he was hospitalised before using this, this coincided with his benefits being cut. On leaving hospital he went to food bank waited a very long time, until being told his voucher had ran out. He had friends who helped, if he hadn't , yes I believe it would be understandable if he stole some food, as i've said it's not as simple as right or wrong.
-
Angelina I suppose it depends who you ask, for example if you asked a mother whose grown up son starved to death after his benefits cut. Im sure she'd wouldn't have thought about the rights and wrongs.

I can't remember that, but I grew up on an estate up north where almost everyone knew the local shoplifters, their families and their backgrounds. It wasn't out the norm to get a knock on your door, especially this time of year, asking if you wanted to order anything. They were your neighbours, friends and part of the community. It may seem easy to see things right or wrong but many people felt they would not manage, whether that was food, clothes or christmas presents. Not everyone needed them but i never heard anyone speak bad of them or report it. I remember The local shop refusing to employ anyone from the estate, when they did they wouldnt charge the full price or give food for free cause they knew they were skint. It's not as simple as right or wrong all the time.

Can you believe it, its on at ED picturehouse today, ha ha ha.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-45512468 Reading this link above it appears to be law, anyone caught stealing goods under ?200, if charged, does not have to appear in court but can plead by letter. By home office statistics shoplifting is up by 23%, it does not show an understanding of the problem as it is linked with a need to make cuts with policing, as has been said by other posters.
-
Sue, i understand what wou meant, there have always been people who have chanced shoplifting along with the chance if being imorisoned. I believe the social climate has brought about a more desperate, hungry kind of shoplifter. There have been deaths associated with benefit changes, i do nt want to go into individual cases of people who have died with nithing in there cupboards. This is also why food banks have become the norm as have suicides and terminally ill people dying in fear they may lose there house. I suppose it depends on how you see connections, whether that be from a distance or close up.
-
Ianr, I wouldnt imagine magistrates are keen on imprisoning people in many of these cases hence why there is people being sent to food banks instead of being arrested, no charges being brought under a certain amount being stole. There have been numerous different suggestion about how these cases can be dealt with. As Sue says there will be oppertunist theft amongst cases of people who are genuinely hungry. You cannot just turn up at a food bank, there are independent food banks who are giving on a more individual level, where criteria is not so rigid.
-
Sue, i was not thinking of theft only witnessed in ED. The reasons behind needing food banks, benefit delays, cuts etc, play a part in why many people are shop lifting. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thelondoneconomic.com/opinion/stealing-to-eat-foi-request-finds-the-poorest-in-society-continue-to-be-criminalised/11/05/amp/ Here's a link to a FOI question regarding people stealing to eat, who have been through the judicial system. I would imagine this has brought about the change in how thesse cases are being dealt with.

Johnl, A citizens arrest is to temporary detain until police arrive, then usual id would be done by police.
-
https://www.pressreader.com/uk/daily-mail/20180730/281754155125191 Haven't shopkeepers been told to arrest shoplifters themselves. Link above explains citizen arrest procedure that can be used. I remember hearing police May not attend if goods under a certain amount. I feel it was inevitable shopliftifting would become the norm, in connection and in the same way food banks have.

Above is a link of a recent published scientific study which is looking at a medicine where horsetail is combined with two other herbs, although I have used it on its own. I hope you are feeling better now, and found something that brings relief.

Thanks for link johnl, when legal proceedings take years like this, there should be transparency, where the public especially people who were personally involved can follow what the findings are. I was unaware of this enquiry until lushs campaign. Have read a little of link, clicked on a link within it where some papers of findings had restricting circulations when published.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jun/06/spycop-ex-wives-we-support-the-lush-campaign It seems this campaign has brought into question the Length of time this enqiry has went on without much Answers, especially for the women involved in these operations. Above link is a view from one of the pollicemans wife who was married at the time her husband was involved with someone else whilst undercover. She is supportive of Lushs campaign.

Thanks so much, I don't mean to take this off topic but i haven't seen any horsetail this year, just an amazing medicine but yes very invasive. Thank you, I'll get overthere and pick some. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/whisperingearth.co.uk/2010/06/12/horsetail-ancient-wonder-modern-medicine/amp/

As someone said earlier, wouldn't it be easier to speak to businesses concerned. Has anyone tried this, If anyone sees anyone struggling to pass (with wheelchair, etc) maybe it will be a good idea To go into premises for someone who can't. I can't see why there can't be a solution attempted.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
TE44 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James, can you tell me if Westminsters application to turn Mandela Way into a parking depot for there rubbish trucks was approved. I can see there is concern if this goes ahead, I cannot find any update, Thanks. http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/9442 Sorry James, know this is not. Particularly ED but I believe Veolia have started operating out of this depot now,Cllr David Harvey-the city of Westminster cabinet member for enviroment, sport and community has stated this is in line with acprevious agreed planning ermission in 2009, which they withdrew. I find this situation with Westminster being the landlords of another councils (and its own I believe) private waste/recycling companies depot rather confusing, without knowing there reason for withdrawing first time round. http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/9474 -
Do you want Controlled Parking YES or NO
TE44 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James, It is all well commenting on praise for scial housing maintenance, but the reality is very different. I do not have up to date figures but here is a link to disrepair. Southwark Council mentioned as paying most in compensation and legal fees regarding this matter, sorry I have a habit of connecting things and this may seem off topic, I can now see there may be a bigger impact on non driver households, whereas In the past I have only looked from neighbours perspective who drive. http://localgovernmentlawyer.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=30067%3Adisrepair-claims-over-english-council-properties-rise-44-by-five-years&catid=60%3Ahousing-articles&Itemid=28
