  1. The HV is right to advise you to reduce the milk feeds if you want her to eat more. The milk is filling your baby up. I would have said don't worry but if your baby is 4th centile then there is a case for her needing the calories in solid food. Babies can amazingly survive on very little food and don't always get an appetite until they start school. The slowing down in her weight gain is probably due to her being more active at this age. I would suggest that you offer food at the time you would normally offer milk. Then offer the milk when she has finished eating. That way you won't feel guilty about withdrawing the milk. And if snacks and grazing works then do it.
  2. Every parent I know that has children at Dalmain have only good things to say, which is a good sign.
  3. I tried everything but the only thing that really works is patience. You have to try a couple of nights with pants but if he wets go back to pull-ups for at least 3 months. Keep repeating this until he has a few dry nights. Trying lots of different things and having wet beds makes the child stressed (and you). So you need to try one thing, then if it doesn't work give it a long break, then try again. But don't try lifting becuase your child will not be fully awake so you are just training him to wee in a sleepy state. Even if you try to wake him he still won't be awake enough. I looked into the alarm but was advised against using it on young children becuase they can just become accustomed to the alarm and sleep through. Like orlakeilyhandbag says wait until he is older and use it as a last resort.
  4. Have you tried to get her to claim Attendance Allowance? This may be your passport to getting other help and will provide some money to pay for someone to come in and help with personal care. Each hospital has a social services team which should have assessed her on discharge and referred her to the appropriate support teams - but in my experience you have to jump up and down to get the right contacts.
  5. Clear as mud!
  6. There's plenty of time between now and Jan.
  7. Why not try Stillness Infants? It's just as good. If you live 800 metres away you may not get an offer in the first round but you have months before school starts and people do move away or they don't turn up on the first day.
  8. Yes the school bus makes things a lot easier. And I agree about the Head - this week my son came home saying the school has bought some new outdoor equipment and the Head and a Deputy came out at lunchtime and tried it out with the Year 7s. How cool is that!
  9. It doesn't matter whether you live in Lewisham or Southwark. It's the distance that counts and that will change every year depending on the number of applicants and where they live (and siblings).
  10. Great thinkers are not great talkers.
  11. I agree with everything legalbeagle says to do but it didn't work for my eldest child. He was 5 before he stayed in bed for most of the night. Sometimes you just have to keep trying until they go to school. Sorry!
  12. It's an interpretation that doesn't fit with Ezekiel 18. or that Adam & Eve's punishment was death (not afterlife) or that Jesus described death as a sleep-like (unconscious) state John 11:11-14.
  13. Someone said we can bring the kids - is that correct?
  14. Most people haven't studied the bible or understand it and that's why so many 'myths' about what it says continue to persist. Have a look at Ecclesiastes Chapter 9 verses 5 and 10. And Ezekiel Chapter 18 verses 4 and 20. Yes the bible does mention some going to heaven after they die but this was for a chosen few, not all and sundry.
  15. Good analogy Jeremy although most people that believe in life after death think the soul is a separate entity to the physical body and so can continue to exist and be conscious in another state even if the body dies. However even the bible says that at death a person is conscious of nothing at all and their soul dies.
  16. Anyone going to the Parent's Forum on Friday evening?
  17. Just popped on here and saw your messages. I got a call last night and then another one this afternoon at 1:30. The lady called me from the school but she gave me a contact number if you still haven't heard anything - let me know.
  18. I read somewhere recently that anyone can ride on a bike on the pavement as long as the wheels are 14inch or smaller. Sorry but I can't remember where I read that!
  19. Yes we were told that there was some fine tuning to be done and we would get a phone call over the weekend - but nothing as yet.
  20. Thanks. We did ask his friend and he had done the same thing! Do all boys have no common sense? We will send him back to the teacher.
  21. EmmaG - do you have any suggestions for when the child comes home and doesn't know what to do becuase he hasn't fully copied down what the teacher wrote on the board? He said there wasn't enough room in the small box in his planner.

My uncle thinks Millwall will win the premiership but his believing it won't make it happen. I've never met anyone who believes they will go to hell, they just think other people go there - so how does that work? And would there be different heavens for Muslims and Christians? And what about the Agnostics who don't know what to believe? The truth is you can make-up whatever you like but it doesn't make it true.
  23. The travelling to and from school has seemed to be absolutely fine after all - I'm begining to wonder if it was worth having the coach???! Although my child has seen the bus go past other Kingsdale children on the route.
  24. My child has just started Year 7 and has had some homework to do every night but it has been manageable and I think he made more of it that he needed to. You may need to speak to his teacher if it becomes too much. Most schools do seem to give one to one and a half hours per night.
