  1. Are you sure you're not confusing this thread with the thread about people moving into the area post 1945? Thread

Well I'm quite happy to be corrected on this, but I'd be very surprised if planes did affect the cell phone signals, they?d have to be putting out a lot of electrical noise to do so I'd thought and considering how high up they are if they did so they would affect huge areas of the city, but who knows? I do know weak freeview signals can be knocked out by noisy (electrically that is) engines, we used to live in a flat where we'd lose signal every time a scooter went past. Anyways I see there's another thread about poor Orange coverage and someone has found there are quite a few cell sites down around ED at the moment due to upgrade work as Orange and T-Mobile merge their networks, could be something to do with it. Orange Mobile Problems
  5. I think they may be just taking pot luck, the van my work mate was driving was a rental, any clearly marked as such, but I guess a rental van could well be full of something useful as people don't rent a van to drive around with it empty all day.
  6. It might be that you are in an area where the cell coverage is a bit marginal, depending on what the stick is showing as signal level it may be a bit misleading, I know my work PDA quite often shows full signal and calls are OK but the data connection can still be crap in different areas. Planes won't affect the signal, weather can do but usually wet weather (fog is the worst) as the moisture tends to absorb the signal a bit, also groups trees with a lot of leaves can cause issues too. If you have a laptop I'd suggest trying different areas nearby to see if it is a localised thing, then at least you'd maybe know if it's a T-Mobile problem or a hardware/software issue.
  7. I read this earlier on today and then bumped into one of my workmates who works the night shift in the office this afternoon and found out he'd been van jacked in Forest Hill on Monday afternoon, same story, some guy told him his back door wasn't shut (he'd just loaded up with a load of spares for the night engineer team so thought it was likely), didn't take the keys out of the ignition, got out went around the back to check and they took off in the van. Apart from a couple of laptops most of the stuff will be useless to anyone else as it's all specalised spare parts, still 50k worth tho :(
  8. Haven't had any probs myself so far, could be the drive laser or the lens maybe, seems odd it just stopped though. There's a couple of things on the MS site you could try, bit skeptical myslef but you never know. Xbox support

  12. For some reason when I saw this: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/4601210329_a6455c55cd_m.jpg it reminded me of this: http://jn6fny.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/new-zealand-map1.jpg ....and no that doesn't mean it's rubbish.

  17. Might depend on whos turf it is, not sure how much a polar bear would like being stuck in a steaming jungle and then going a round with a tiger. The again if it was Tigger, I'm sure the polar bear would smack that stupid grin off his face no worries.
  18. They've opened the airspace above 20,000 feet (ie above the ash cloud) to allow flights to pass over the UK, probably the contrails people can see.
  19. They've put on a bit of weight if you ask me, think they need to hit the gym before conquering the universe.
  20. Interesting account of BA Flight 9 in 1982 which flew into an ash cloud, I can see why they are so cautious these days. Speedbird 9

Seems to still sell hi-fi stuff, I always thought there wasn't much in the place until I ventured inside one day. He's got quite a bit of kit in there, was quite surprised. Looked all above board to me, I was only after an audio cable but he was very helpful.
  23. They are now saying unoffically it might go onto until midd next week...

Just watching the BBC news now and so far they have had live reports from Heathrow (showing empty terminal), Bristol (reporting from the empty runway), Manchester (showing a single plane landing) and St Pancras (showing a few people queing for tickets). I too fail to see what benefit any of that has, yes planes aren't flying, yes the airports are empty, we get it.
  25. Live updates on the BBC news site Live updates This one made me laugh: 1143twmercer tweets: Honestly. If you can't look after your volcano you shouldn't be allowed to keep one.
