  1. Our pleasure! Do come along to the next open day I'm sure you will find it very reassuring and we always try to have PTA members on hand for a cuppa afterwards. There will probably be others whose children will be starting at the same time present for a visit or re visit. Hope to meet you then GGPTA
  2. Congratulations to all of those allocated a place at this high achieving vibrant local school. We look forward to seeing you at the welcome meeting and thereafter in September. In the meantime if you wish to keep abreast of the goings on at the PTA you can do so by joining the mailing list; email your details to goosegreenpta@yahoo.co.uk or by PM via the forum. There will be another open day on 1st May. There have been lots of changes in the last few months with the new kitchen in full swing, the breakfast club serving a range of hot food, extended after school club hours, a new gardening club, parent/teachers choir, refurbished annexe and gardens, beautiful mosaics all over the playground, new gates and signage and, of course, our appearance on BBC sports relief. You can keep in touch with our improvements and achievements via our website www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org which has all the past newsletters on it and much more. A warm welcome to you all. GGPTA
  3. For anyone looking to cash in their world book day vouchers, the quite wonderful and charming Rye books on Upland Road (near junction with Barry Road) is stocking them. GGPTA
  4. The PTA are always reading the forum! Hi Belle, there is a short hiatus in school tours in between the applications for reception places and allocation so there is no tour in March or April. The next tour will be Tuesday 1st May. Dates should be on the school website www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org (click on parents then calendar) and we always post something on the forum too. In the meantime if you want any more information please feel free to PM me or email goosegreenpta@yahoo.com GGPTA
  5. Dear all, I emailed the head teacher at 8.10 this morning regarding the latest issues raised in this thread, she responded within 15 minutes. There will be school tours on 1st May, 12th June and 3rd July. She is conducting an investigation into why anyone would be told that there were no tours until September. Google do sometimes give out the wrong URL, this is being addressed, the website has not been down. Due to an unprecedented demand, the school's supply of prospectus' was exhausted. There is a new one in development, this period between reception place application dates is the normal period for that to be done. I am happy to post on this forum when they are available so that anyone interested can collect one from the school office. GGPTA
  6. The school tours with large groups of prospective parents tend to take place during the open period for reception place applications. However there are usually parent visits throughout the year and indeed another peak in demand after reception place allocations. I will contact the head teacher to confirm the position and enquire why you were told that you cold not visit until September. The website is active My understanding of the pack that is given to parents taking the tour (which is of course a much smaller bundle than that given to parents whose children are actually starting the school) is that it includes a recent newsletter, a sample lunch menu and some information on breakfast and after school clubs and a prospectus (although there have naturally been periods when this is being updated). It is not meant to be a substitute for actually seeing the school. However we would be interested to hear what information has been provided at other school tours which has been more useful and we will pass that on to the school GGPTA
  7. And we would be delighted to have you... Thank you for the feedback Millsa, we know that we are on to a good thing and we think our head is fabulous, glad to see others think so too. GGPTA http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org (see the photos from Jo Brand's recent visit on the home page of the website)
  8. We'd like to publicly thank Jo Brand for coming to Goose Green school today to formally open our brand new kitchen (where fresh, healthy meals will be prepared on site for the children by the school chef and her team) Her funny speech made all the children (and staff!) laugh. Afterwards, Jo had a go at making vegetable stew with the chef! The event also a fun opportunity for performances by the school choir, the Year 6 drummers, the brass band and ballet class dancers and the children enjoyed performing for her. Thanks again! Goose Green PTA http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org
  9. The next Goose Green school tour will take place on Tuesday 10th January. No need to book a place just turn up at the reception area shortly after 9am. The tour will be conducted by either the Head Teacher Sharron Marland or the Deputy Head and Year 6 teacher Toni Robinson. Doubtless you have seen our excellent sats results; the 3rd year on year rise in attainment and we are now one of the highest achieving schools locally. Come and have a look at what else we have to offer.
  10. Dear all, For those applying for a 2012 reception place come and have a look for yourself why so many parents are so very happy with Goose Green. The school will be having its monthly open day this coming Tuesday (6th December). Whilst it is usually the first Monday of every month this has been altered for December to accomodate other Christmas related activities taking place at school. No need to book a slot just come to the reception desk shortly after 9am and the headteacher Mrs Marland will conduct a tour of the whole school from nursery to year 6 including our dedicated art and music rooms. After the tour there will be an opportunity to meet and chat to parents of children currently at the school. See you there GGPTA
  11. Damzal, Those of us who post under the Goose Green PTA handle are just parent volunteers for the PTA not a staff person from the school. We do try to be as helpful as we can but sometimes we get it wrong (usually becaues we are fitting in our volunteer tasks between our work committments)! Usually the tour is the first Monday of the month. But sometimes this changes. Always check with the school first. Warmly, Goose Green PTA http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org
  12. Hello, Tours are USUALLY first Monday of every month at 9:15am. ALWAYS check with the school first to get the exact date/time. That's werid about the phone! The school's main number has an initial switchboard recording directing you to the office/reception and the number is 020 8693 3568 - when you ring you should be getting the choice to be put through to the reception desk or it should be instructing you to leave a message if no one is there to take your call. We'll mention to them there is something wrong with the switchboard as this should be kicking in automatically! Goose Green PTA http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org
  13. We're definately getting green thumbs at Goose Green! On that note, next week on Friday 11th November, we are having an autumn garden tidy up and bulb planting in our wildlife garden at Goose Green School. If you have any spare bulbs or rakes (adult and child sized) or trowels (adult sized - we have child sized), your donation would be most welcome! PM if you want to make a donation. Thank you! Goose Green Primary School PTA http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org
  14. Thanks so much James! And thanks to everyone who came along - it was GREAT to see such a mix of children and parents come along. It was a lovely evening with a full house. We've had a quick scan of the evaluation forms and they were overwhelming positive! We'll post a short summary report once we have had a more detailed look. Again thanks so much to the Dulwich Community Council who made this community event possible through their grant. Who would have thought maths could be so much fun? Goose Green PTA http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org
  15. Tomorrow is the last chance to get your free tickets to this evening - it's open to all families with primary school children. The PTA would like to give a BIG THANK you to Dulwich Community Council for their grant to enable us to put on this event that is open to all parents and children in the area. More information on the website http://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org go to the PTA page to download the flyer.
  16. Maeve, there is a tour of Goose Green school tomorrow which will give you the opportunity to see the school from nursery to year 6 and includes the music and art rooms. There tours are on the first Monday of every month and we will always endeavour to have some parents of the current school children on hand afterwards for a cuppa and a chat. The tour begins at 9.15am.
  17. Hi Craigy the collection date has passed and they have sent them off but if more come in I will personally ensure that they are put to use with an additional order. Better be quick though, closing date for orders is 28th July. GGPTA Edited to say - i've emailed the office and they have emailed me back (at 7pm i was well impressed!) They will happily accept any vouchers and we'll send in an additional order. Thank you to all for your kind donations
  18. Goose Green primary and Nursery School will be holding its 8th annual carnival and summer fair on 9th July between 12-4pm on Goose Green and extend an invite to stallholders wishing to rent a pitch at this event to contact us goosegreenpta@yahoo.co.uk for further details and a booking form. This is a lovely community event beginning with a carnival procession through the streets and on to the Green where there will be live music, bouncy castles, facepainting, sideshow activities, taster sessions of local children's classes and stalls selling clothes, jewellery, crafts and the like as well as food and drink stalls. This is always well attended by families from the school as well as the wider local community.
  19. Thanks Amberwood. Very much appreciated. GGPTA
  20. We would love them please! I could come collect from you or you could drop in to me or the school. I can guarantee that they will be put to good use. Thanks GGPTA
  21. Congratulations Steph and welcome! If you PM me with your personal email I will add you to the PTA mailing list and my sub list of reception 2011 starters. As you may already know there will be "welcome to reception" meetings at the school on Wednesday 15th June at 2pm and 5.30pm; representatives of the PTA will be at both and we will be inviting those present who have not already done so to join the mailing list. Once that's done I'll set up some informal meets over the summer. Look forward to meeting you GGPTA
  22. Hi Katy, There will be a welcome meeting at the school (probably in June) for parents to meet the teachers and find out practical information about the curriculum, uniforms, wrap around care and the PTA hope to be present too. On a personal note I have a daughter starting reception in September, she is currently at the nursery. I have been collating email addresses for those starting reception (a real mix of parents with children in the upper years, children who will be coming from the school nursery and children who will be coming from other nurseries) I had planned to organise a get together - weekend picnic on Goose Green - in the early summer. Certainly when my son started 2 years ago, joining the school from a private nursery, I found it really helpful that a group of us had a rolling open invite to meet at the swings Sunday 3pm if available and was going to suggest something similar for this year. PM me if you fancy joining the mailing list and/or you have any other questions about the school. It must be very disappointing when your child is settled to move them but they are very adaptable she will make lots of friends and you may well find that you already know some of the other children from the area. GGPTA
  23. Thank you wave! And thanks to all of those who have responded, names are duly added. Please note that the mailing list is administered by the secretary to the PTA via her personal hotmail account rather than the PTA account so look out for those emails appearing in your inbox. GGPTA
  24. For those joining the school in September; you may wish to add your details the PTA mailing list, you will then receive emails about forthcoming events and minutes of the meetings which will give you a good idea of the life of the school outside the classrooms. Email the GGPTA with your details goosegreenpta@yahoo.co.uk and you will be duly added. For a peek at life inside the classrooms the school newsletters can be viewed on the school website www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org. Regards GGPTA
