A big thank you from the Friends of Goose Green School to everyone who cheered on our carnival procession on Saturday, those of you who joined us on Goose Green and all the school staff, parents and carers who make it happen! A huge thank you also, to all the local businesses who supported us with incredible raffle prize donations and also to our main sponsors Daisy Lets & Harrison Food With Thought. Our children love the opportunity to celebrate their learning and have fun with other members of our local community and the school has captured a flavour of the day on their new Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/goosegreenprimaryschool Do please get in touch if you'd like to find out more about our amazing school - applications for Reception places aren't that far off and we're always happy to chat through any questions you might have. This summer our brilliant PE Teacher & an experienced team are running a holiday club here at the school (Goose Green Primary School) called Holiday Champs - for ages 5-12. www.holidaychamps.co.uk [email protected] The focus is on a big variety of sports - but with art & crafts available too. There's options for half days, full days, whole weeks and early/later drop off too. The playground is really spacious with a huge stretch of MUGA (multi use games area surface / astroturf) and is lovely and green thanks to all our efforts with our well established green screen, and lots of planting.

Air quality around schools
goosegreenpta replied to bubbachumps's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello there Louise ? We at Goose Green School are very happy to be on board ? well done getting the schools together on this.? Strength in numbers! ? We?d be more than happy to share the work that we have been doing on our Green Screen Project at one of your meetings.? The Green Screen is now in place doing its job if anyone wants to pop down for look.? You can see it all the way along our school boundary on Grove Vale.? The project has been neatly summarised for us in two videos: https://mobilane.co.uk/case-studies/green-screens-cleaner-safer-air-london-school/ (the film is part way down the page) https://we.tl/DAiHNy4jI5 We are also considering other initiatives including the greening of our school entrance, an anti-idling campaign, internal air purification units and a walking bus scheme.? Our school eco-warriors have worked with Southwark on a walk to school mapping scheme. ? We?d love to share our ideas and hear what others are up to.? We?d really love to hear how cycling could be made easier/safer. ? Our experience so far has shown us how much the local councillors and MP support these initiatives (as you will see from the video of Helen Hayes? speech at our school), so we should keep them posted as to our collaboration. ? Thank you, and really looking forward to the first meeting! ? Friends of Goose Green School (FOGGS) -
Here is some FANTASTIC NEWS from Mr Wattam the Headmaster of Goose Green Primary School!! "Following a Mayor of London grant of almost ?12,000 towards our ?Green Screen Project?, we have reached our fundraising target! I am delighted to announce that FOGGS (Friends of Goose Green School) have now raised sufficient funds to install a ?Green Screen? of pre-grown ivy that will provide our school playground with a barrier against air pollution and help protect the long-term health of the children. So many have helped make this possible - from parents, carers and friends, local businesses, community groups and politicians. Special thanks to the Dulwich Society, Winkworth Estate Agents, Suzanne James Catering and Lightbox London Limited for their generous sponsorships. WHAT IS A GREEN SCREEN? Our very own Green Screen will run the entire boundary length of our playground along Grove Vale and will stand 2.2m high. Green Screens are made of living ivy and have a dual effect, both blocking pollutants as a barrier at vehicle exhaust height and actually capturing them on the surface area of the leaves. The pollutants captured are then washed away by rain, allowing the ivy leaves to repeat the process. A Green Screen can reduce street-level concentrations of nitrogen dioxide by as much as 40% and up to 60% for particulate matter (PM). Because the ivy is pre-grown and full height the impact will be immediate and, as it matures and thickens, the benefit will increase. Every child at Goose Green will be breathing cleaner, safer air straight away and the screen will benefit the local community with its aesthetic, environmental and air cleansing properties. It is also a fantastic educational tool for teachers and parents. A living testament to the remarkable power of nature. NEXT STEPS We are installing the Green Screen over the course of three community planting days in half term from 15th -17th February 2018 by a team of urban greening specialists assisted by parents, children and community members. This is not just for the school, it is a project that will benefit the entire community, so we think it is important to involve as many people as possible. We?ve been thrilled by the enthusiasm shown by the children and parents of Goose Green, local residents and businesses ? it shows what can be achieved when everyone pulls together. GET INVOLVED THIS HALF TERM! We would love to have as many friends and families as possible involved in the community planting days. Please come and join ?The Big Dig? where we, under the guidance of experts, will fit our own ivy screens. The Green Screen experts will provide all equipment and FOGGS will have a warm-up room available with free refreshments and stories to entertain the children while the adults get stuck in! Don?t be shy ? this will be a fun project to be part of and the results will be very rewarding." Hi there We at Goose Green Primary School like to think we are a progressive bunch! The school has a lovely feel to it and is nurturing and creative, whilst striving to gain the best from each child. The parent body is very involved and we have a great community and a number of local supporters. Our community events are always popular and have a great buzz. We have wonderful art and music departments and an array of after school activities ranging from taekwondo to dance to steel pans to French Club! The best way to find out about whether the school is a good fit for your family is to come along to one of our open days / parent tours (we host one a month). After meeting the head and looking around the school, prospective parents have tea and a chat with members of FOGGS (Friends of Goose Green School - our PTA). That is a great chance to ask questions. We also invite prospective parents to join us at our events. We have Christmas Carols on the Green coming up on 15th December 6-8pm. Again, it would give you the opportunity to see what we're like (and enjoy some mulled wine)! Of course, coming from abroad, you may not be able to pop in for any of these times, so do let us know if you have any specific questions or are visiting at any point and would like to take a look / talk to one of us. Good luck with the move! FOGGS

Dear All, With Summer in full swing and the school Fair approaching it won't be long until our children start reception.
