My 16 month old daughter has been sleeping in our bed by about midnight for the past month or so (I keep telling people that its only been a week, and then I work out that actually it has been going on for ages!!).... She has never had a dummy, and has always been an okay sleeper (well thats a lie, she has been known to go down very well, but then wake up at 4am and what to play), but something has spooked her now and she wakes up at least 3 or 4 times a night, ending up with getting into our bed (cos i cant take the lack of sleep). I assume she was teething as she has molars coming through, but they dont seem to cause her any pain during the day, so why would they hurt at night? Also she has a bit of a cough, which seems to be worse at night, but again it doesnt seem to be the cause of her waking.... We are putting it down to being a stage and we hope every night (with crossed fingers) that it will be the first night she stays in her cot, but obviously that has been going on for weeks now....... Sleep deprivation is one of the worst things about parenthood and I could bore you senseless with the effect it has had on my mental state! What I would give for a guarenteed night of full sleep!?!?!? If anyone has any tips, tricks to try PLEASE let us know....... Good luck, em

Have I become indictor obsessed? or have people stopped using them as a general rule? Or maybe the use of them has changed in the new highway code? Its been a few years since i passed my test and so just wondering if anyone can shed some light on on the matter for me.........? I always thought a driver had to use their indictors to alert other road users to the dirction of their indended travel but it seems noone bothers anymore...... what have i missed? Perplexed of Peckham.

On a similar thread, my friend took her 5 year old to McDs for the first time (she didnt want her daughter to be the only kid in the class that had never eaten there etc), anyway she ordered a happy meal and then watched as her daughter expertly undid the box, got out the contents, took the gerkin out of the burger to throw away, then poured the fries into the opened burger paper and ate the meal as if she had eaten there everyday! She was so amazed that she rang her mother and told her the story, to which her mother said, 'oh yes dear, when i look after violet, we often go to McDonalds for a happy meal'........ I wont tell you the rest of the conversation, but you can imagine.......

My 14 month old has been a bit like that recently, goes down to bed at 7pm like a dream and then (usually just as i am going to bed or an hour after) she wakes, crying uncontrolably until I (she crys even more if dad picks her up?) get her and bring her into our bed. Thought it was teething as shes got quite a few and it feels like some kind of pain is waking her up, however it has turned into a nasty cough (waking herself up coughing i think), for a few nights and then had high temp yesterday and then this morning projectile vommited her stomach contents all over our bed (240mls of milk and some neurofen). My partner took her to the doc yesterday to check out the temp but was told theres a nasty bug going round and just keep her warm, well hydrated etc etc.... so to answer your question, i have no idea, but could be a combination of a few things including the re settling after being away??? hope it gets better, em

There is a fabric shop on Blenheim Grove, very near to the walkway through to Peckham Rye station. A lovely couple run it but the shop is sooooooo full of stuff you can hardly walk to the counter (I AM NOT JOKING! i had my baby in a pram by the door as there was no space to wheel a maclaren buggy into the shop). The husband said he would look after my baby whilst the wife helped my find some thread, and they did, but it was a surreal experience and only made slightly weirder when the wife pressed play on the cassette player when i paid (a spiritual number i think) but it made hearing what she was saying slightly tricky! It is worth a visit if you are passing but take your mobile phone, in case you can't find your way out!

just print this and see if they dare.....

i have written a note on the door saying: knock loudly as have a baby and sometimes cant hear knocker BUT not after 7pm when baby is sleeping..... it seems to work..?!?! i think any door to door salesman think 'mad mum answering door? no thanks' and dont knock at all and anyone else we know and they can ring us first...

Help - my 11m old has started trantruming ALREADY!
embo71 replied to pebbles's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I like to think that the fact that maybe having tantrums at 1, must mean our kids are super intelligent and are just ahead of their times, and not that we are entering a world of pain. I now have much shorter hair (not through any choice of my own, but through my 12month old pulling it out as if it was the funniest game), I now have to use distraction method to get her ready to get in the buggy, to feed her (can take up to 12 different toys, which all get covered in sludge), and to change her nappy without total tantrums (again toys, but can get covered in different sludge!). I am trying to stay positive about why they behave they way they do and we are all doing the best jobs we can, under sleep deprived (read grouchy as hell), and challenging circumstances (that no class, chat, or book) can prepare you for! Anyway I am rambling, but I just wanted to say: you're not alone, it is hard, and these little people are just trying to express themselves in the way they can? I think!? But I bet you are doing a grand job, and you should be proud! I don't think I am doing a great job but I think us women can be too self critical. If anyone wants to meet up with all of our 'determined' (that's what a relative told me my daughter was), kiddies, then get in touch, maybe we should all go to a soft play place and let them run wild? Just a thought.... Anyway good luck, all the best and I have a pair of earplugs that could come in handy?..... Em -

Hi ya, I want to take my 13 week old swimming (as she loves the bath)(is this a silly assumption?), does anyone have any recommendations on where to go and any advice on taking babies swimming? Thanks in advance, Em
-
My advice is to take a very long walk....... have a large meal and then go to bed..... I drank RLT, ate pineapple, curries and other recommended 'actions',(including reflexology), nothing much happened... but the minute I stopped worrying and decided to chill out and eat something nice (it was a very big Italian meal at Si Mangia), my labour started at 5am the following morning. I agree that sleeping as much as you can and enjoying a bit of time for yourself before your ray of sunshine arrives is the best advice at the moment... (I am only 9 weeks in, but already it feels like years....!) All the best...
