I used to climb Canobie Road daily on a fixie when I lived in Forest Hill and rarely enjoyed it! Haven’t been back to Canobie Road since.

I agree with this 👆🏻. Sometimes you just have to put convenience over other people’s objective safety. Yes, I may be forcing mothers with prams to walk in the road and blocking access for disabled people, but if I don’t park on a junction then I’d have to walk 20 meters farther with my kids. When will people stop being so selfish and start thinking of my children and not their own?
-
Do the lines extend more than 10 meters from the junction? It’s hard to find a junction in Dulwich that doesn’t have cars contravening HC r. 250 so hopefully all junctions get marking to stop dangerous parking.
-
I don’t - the same as for uninsured drivers, distracted drivers, or drunk drivers. All are operating motor vehicles illegally. Even if I was to identify those groups, I am not in a position to act on it. The police can and do enforce laws by stopping illegal e-bikes and uninsured drivers, drunk drivers, etc. I don’t see why you are not asking for enforcement of existing laws regarding illegal e-bikes and antisocial cycling.
-
I don’t see the logic, not at least because the lay public is not in a position to act differently because of it. As a comparative example, every day in the U.K. there are 300,000 uninsured car drivers - I cannot tell which cars are uninsured but I don’t suggest that all cars are banned because of it. Enforced of existing laws are required not additional laws. It is already easily enough to tell that someone on a bike, without a number plate, going 20 mph either on the flat or uphill, and without pedalling is riding an illegal motor vehicle. The issue is that the harm caused is low therefore the police resources provided to address the issue is low. If you want to address the antisocial aspect of the riders then this is a separate matter for the police that can be also addressed under existing legalisation. Writing to your MP or campaigning for addressing the issue through existing legislation would help make it a priority for the stretched police resources. More laws won’t solve anything if even current laws are not enforced.

No, that’s is not what I have suggested. At least some of the bikes in the photo are not going to be categorised as electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs) so they are treated as motor vehicles under the law, requiring tax and insurance. The regulations are clear in the link I provided. Motor vehicles include motor bikes and also E-bikes that don’t meet the EAPC classification. I feel that your efforts would be more productive in campaigning for e-bikes that are in fact motor vehicles to be confiscated which is already under the current power of the police.

Agreed - it really looks lovely there in wet and dry weather but I also can’t wait to see people out in nice weather, mingling in the shared space. Real community asset.

CPZ in Dulwich Village ward to go live on January 6

Thanks! It still reads that bay markings are required. Possibly these have yet to be done locally but I hope they are added before penalties start being applied. -

The parking zone does not appear to agree with the Southwark website as this new parking zone does not have bays. Notably, it also does not have big entry signs that older zones appear to have had. CPZ signs Our newest controlled parking zones do not have entry signs or single yellow lines. In these areas, the kerb is either marked with: a parking bay, where you can park double yellow lines, where you cannot park This makes parking rules clearer and avoids the need for big entry signs. Other zones have at least one entry sign. The law says this sign only needs to be on one side of the road. We do not need to put entry signs between zones with the same hours. -

There was a sea of parking fines on windscreens this morning on Calton Avenue. -
Can they not put the mast in Dulwich Park? It shouldn’t be noticeable amongst trees and it would keep those dirty anti-vaxers away.

National Travel Survey and cycling policy in London
Kurt_Lane replied to Rockets's topic in Roads & Transport
Is this your personal speculation because it doesn’t correlate with any official polls that I have seen. The reasons that most people quote in polls are poor road conditions/potholes, bad drivers and inclement weather with two of those three being overcome by well maintained cycle infrastructure. -
I’ve also got the kit, but tho older one rather than the newer smaller one.

No need to apologise. I don’t mind people being wrong. Black cabs should be near the bottom of the list next to Ubers (but above HGVs). I’m not sure why they should be allowed on bus lanes. They are as efficient as cars when there is a passenger in them and the least efficient transport when there are no passengers because they drive around making congestion worse without even providing mobility to anyone. Happy to park that thought for another day 😆 -

I don’t think that you can base anything on a spending pledge that didn’t happen. A first mistake would be believing Mr Johnson in any respect. Re the bus/cycle priority, the examples around bridges relate to central London and not local roads for which mention an LTN. The LTNs are not cycling infrastructure but rather active travel infrastructure so I don’t see the connection for them to Johnson’s fictitious cycle budget from 2013. I’m sure we would all love better busies locally, but the issue is too much local traffic. Letting some of the too much traffic drive through LTNs isn’t going to help busses much. I’d love to see busses pass through some of the bus gates that make up LTNs but bus routes are a TFL decision and busses are not a TFL priority. -

I feel that hardly any money has been poured into cycling. Driving standards are bad - you experience reckless driving most commutes and there are still no segregated routes to get into central. It’s no wonder that there aren’t more new cyclists. Busses are slow, but that is generally due to parked cars and roadworks. Sometimes the overall volume of car traffic is crushing. Too many cars in the way of busses remain the problem. Finally, bus routes don’t change to reflect the evolution of rail transport, which would be an easy way to increase usage. We can’t “invest” our way out of cars parked in a bus lane making a dual lane road a single lane that is nearly stationary and full of cars. It’s about priorities not budget. -
If it can take me to Herne Hill then I’m all for it. Public transport through Dulwich is terrible and LTNs have made it worse. It’s moronic to have public transport (busses is all we really have if you don’t live near a station) choked on the south circular and lordship lane. I love cycling but it doesn’t work with large bags, or visiting elderly parents or families with kids.
