Was very excited this morning to see a peregrine falcon perching on the ridge tiles of a house at the back of me (I live at the bottom of Henslowe backing on to Friern). I know they are nesting on the top of Tate Britain but don't know how far they range out from there. Perhaps it was one of last years youngster's and is looking for a home in the suburbs away from Ma and Pa - Dawsons Heights would be a good place for a new peregrine pad! Has anyone else seen it locally? They are quite distinctive - bigger and slimmer in shape to a pigeon, very hooked beak, brown back and head but whitish under chin and cheek patches with pale fawny white breast rippled with brown flecks. Count me in for Henslowe Road.... Archie having gone missing twice, it was good to have forum support. First time he was badly injured in a possible road accident, second time I think he must have been shut in someone's house for five days over a Bank holiday. He's become infamous at the lower end of Henslowe. He and Pearl have hooked up with Pal Joey from a few doors up.... Annie

I too am really interested in learning more about crow culture having observed the birds on the Rye...... have just received a great book as a birthday present, have only just dipped into it but it's fascinating and beautifully written. It's only just out (in hardback), called 'Crow Country' by Mark Cocker, essentially about Norfolk where he lives but in his quest to learn more he travels all over the UK. Highly recommended. Has anyone tried the salsa classes that seem to run regularly at the EDT? I am now what might be classed as of a mature vintage, would I be hopelessly out of place and pace?

Apologies if I've missed a thread but has anyone more info. on Le Chandelier set to open in a couple of weeks? It's next to Cafe Noodle and opposite Mrs. Robinson - chap decorating said it was going to be an antique shop/ tearoom/restaurant (it will be licensed) ... from my limited glimpse it looks kind of rococo swanky.

Harris Academy (new boys school for East Dulwich)
anntidote replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Seriously folks this has become a very urgent and worrying issue. Those of us that live in the vicinity are somewhat aghast at the scale of the new proposals and the impact they will have on the houses and streets around the school. 350 girls was one thing ....950 boys on such a small site is quite another! Local residents are not against the development of the site as a school or sixth form centre but not on this scale and housed in a new 4 storey building that will cover most of the site. There is an urgent campaign to get a proper consultation exercise done and local councillors etc are now involved. A website has just been set up - very new so more stuff is to be added. Take a look and lend your support if you can. www.edge-campaign.co.uk -
Missing Cat - oriental looking tabby - East Dulwich Grove
anntidote replied to Jos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So glad it's another happy ending - my cat Archie went missing (but returned) a couple of weeks ago and support from other 'posters' on the forum was really supportive. Some mogs are destined to be a constant source of worry...while I was chilling on the South Bank yesterday at the RFH re-opening I got a call from a chap a few doors away who still had one of my leaflets, to say Archie was playing with a stag beetle in his garden. I was a bit anxious as to what I might find on my return but thankfully he was still in one piece and no sign of the stag beetle. -
Went there last night for first time and can highly recommend - little gem of a place. Excellent food and service (chef is a woman by the way) and we didn't smell of cooking afterwards. It's pretty and original - small garden looked inviting but We sat inside. There are outside tables on pavement area - only possible drawback are skulking hoodies who occasionally drift past, having been mugged around there a few years ago I took a minimalist handbag (in terms of contents for a laydee) with me.

Missing ginger & white cat - Henslowe/Upland/Barry Rd

GOOD NEWS - the wanderer has returned. Got back home after another gloomy trek round putting up posters and lo and behold there he was, sitting in the hall looking very pleased with himself. He's hungry but very lively, can only think he must have been shut in by someone over the Bank holiday weekend. This cat has caused me to age prematurely and must now surely be very low on lives! Thanks to all, your support has been great, much appreciated. -

Also worth saying that Archie has a very big, bushy tail - I've been trying to attach a photo but all the images are too big to download on here. -

Another day and still no sign of Archie...I'm attaching a picture of him - hope it works! -
Oh dear - my original thread seems to have disappeared so here's a new one. My ginger and white longish haired, young neutered male cat ARCHIE has been missing for 24 hours+ from the bottom of Henslowe Road area near where Upland joins Barry. He is gullible, inquisitive and has already lost about 6 lives even tho he's not yet one! He has a marked limp (back left leg) from his last escapade. Any news good or bad welcomed - I have leafleted and put posters up and will try to post a photo here when I've worked out how. Don't know where the original thread went but thanks to all those who responded - it has cheered me up. I'll let you know if he comes home. land line 0208 693 4949 m. 07770 643714

I will broaden my poster campaign and keep my fingers crossed - can't believe he's gone again after the traumas of last time but I can't imagine him as a house cat - guess I'll have to consider it though if he ever comes home! The not knowing is the worse part. -

Thanks for the kind words and support - they've cheered me up a bit. Will let you know if the Wanderer returns. Today is a day of firsts for me - first use of EDF and soon off to try the Street Car based in Friern Road.I'm sure there must be a string about this but I haven't had time to explore the EDF site yet. -
Hope it's not inappropriate for me to ask for help on this one - this is my first time on EDF and I must say it looks very useful! I live at the bottom end of Henslowe (not far from the church at the bottom of Upland Road where it meets Barry). My young, neutered male cat, ARCHIE, ginger and white, went missing yesterday. He is chipped and has a collar with his details attached. He has a marked limp (back left leg)from a horrible injury he got the last time he went missing about three months ago. He has caused me much grief and loads of money already but me and his sister miss him.Any news, good or bad welcome. He has a great curiuosity about holes and I wonder if he might have tangled with a fox. I have leafleted and put some posters up around the area - this is just a long shot.... any one in my area including the middle bit of Barry Road please let me know any news, good or bad. Thanks Have decided to add land line number - there's an ansaphone 0208 693 4949
