  1. We need to get a couple of spare sets of car keys made for our 2007 ford focus. Haven't had to do this before and so was wondering whether you have to do this via a ford dealer or whether you can get this done for cheaper elsewhere? Have had a quick search on the net and there are lots of 'car keys r us' type sites but they don't look particularly reputable. Any tips welcome.
  2. Thanks all. I think I may try a different cup and also try giving her one of her main feeds from a beaker rather than her mid afternoon one - when she's probably not that thirsty/hungry.
  3. I stopped using sainsburys when I ordered a loaf of bread- my brand was out of stock and apparently the couldn't find a replacement! My eggs were broken too which the delivery man said - 'happens all the time'. Great.
  4. I don't think it's unreasonable for you to go back to a&e - an infected finger is an a&e type issue. The problem with seeing seldoc tonight is that when you refer into hospital - you don't just write a referral letter- you usually speak to the relevant on call team too who accept the referral. This makes it a bit tricky if the patient requests to be admitted the following day when a different team will be on call. On the other hand if it's that bad surely it's best that it's seen and dealt with tonight?
  5. So we've survived the first 12 months - breast feeding, bottle feeding, back to breast feeding, mixed feeding and then weaning- phew. Now I'm not sure how much milk miss jb should be taking and also when and how should I get her off the bottle and onto some form of cup. She currently has 3 bottles a day. Morning, mid afternoon and then before bed. She had begun to drop the mid afternoon one - but seems to be keen on it again, though I do notice when she has an afternoon bottle she's very picky with her dinner. Should I try to cut own to two bottles a day now or simply go with the flow. She is quite a good eater. My second question is about making the transition from bottle to cup. She's been happily taking water from a 'sippy' cup for some time. Her favourite is the cow one. I've tried giving her milk in this but quite strangely she takes a huge gulp and then almost forgets to swallow and spits it down her front. She doesn't do this with water. Any suggestions very welcome. I've just been on the nhs birth-5 website which told me se should be off the bottle by 12 months!
  6. We've just passed that milestone and I'd second most of the suggestions above. A bag of megablocks (cheap version of Lego/duplo) has been a huge hit - although she's not really building anything yet, she can spend hours taking the blocks out of the bag and then putting them back in. She's also beginning to get into shape sorters and jigsaws.
  7. Hope you had a better night last night!
  8. Congratulations Ae - hope things are going a bit more smoothly for you now. I agree that the success of this is completely dependent on people being considerate of others. I don't think that kings are strict enough in enforcing their visiting policy. When I was being induced on the antenatal ward, they moved a young girl who had just given birth to the bed opposite me. At one point she had 15 visitors! There I was mid contraction on all fours and new visitors kept coming behind my curtain. This definitely wasn't part of my birth plan. We're currently deciding whether to leave east dulwich and move to Kent. If I do go on to have another - the local hospital has just been rebuilt and is all single rooms . . . A big tick in the 'for' box!!
  9. Apparently cabin pressure systems are a lot better than they used to be so the pressure changes are less pronounced. As pickle said I'd just give her a drink and the swallowing will be probably be enough to equalize the pressure. Reminds me of one of my favourite books when I was younger - topsy and tim go on a plane. I think they were given sweets by the air hostess but maybe you could find a copy of this to help explain! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Topsy-Tim-Aeroplane-Jean-Adamson/dp/1409300579/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1318670014&sr=8-4 Just looked - it's still in print. Going to order a copy for miss jb now!
  10. Maybe we should hold the next drinks at the castle. I'd love to see the faces of the regulars as the family room descends. . . .
  11. Mine too - not counting the Castle!
  12. Arsmith - I was with the gardens - I've sent you a pm .
  13. Any ideas of a venue yet?
  14. I had an emergency c section too but to my delight the recovery wasn't that bad at all. I could bend and lift the baby without any problems. In fact I felt far more mobile and agile than I did at the end of my pregnancy. My milk did take a good few days to come in - not sure if that was the c section or related to the stress of the horrid labour before the section. I only stayed in for 2 nights postnatally- and one of those was spent on the labour ward high dependency unit on IV antibiotics so I was surprised how quickly I was discharged. When I got home all my family seemed to be obsessed with the driving issue ie how long after the section I could drive. Not sure why, as I had no need or desire to drive anywhere in the early days! There are no definite rules on this by the way - you don't have to wait until your 6 week check. It's more about whether you feel comfortable and able to do so.
  15. There's a few people on this forum who seem to have an irrational hatred of private landlords. I'm currently both a landlord and a tenant. I'd much rather not be a landlord but after 3 sales falling through on my flat I've decided to bite the bullet and rent it out. I thought about being charitable and renting out my flat at much lower than the going rate but hey that wouldn't have covered my mortgage and so I've decided to be dastardly and rent it out at ?5 more than my mortgage. A real money spinner!
  16. Being a good ed mum I tried to avoid the plastic too, but a couple of pieces have crept in. Much to my shame the vtech baby walker has been a particular favourite! Now that baby jb is walking it's going on loan to my niece - I won't miss the bloody puppy calling song. Other favourites have been - stacking cups, the stacking hoops that go on a pole and she's beginning to get into using shape sorters etc. But as sanne panne says - nothing beats empty bottles or cartons. Keeps her entertained for hours.
  17. I may even be able to make this hurrah!
  18. Don't be put off by the exterior of a nursery. My daughter's nursery is also in a car park and not too aesthetically pleasing from the outside ie a modern block. However as it is purpose built rather than a conversion all of the rooms are really spacious with large food prep and changing areas. It's also really convenient having parking outside to do drop offs - rather than finding a space on a busy street.
  19. Emily are you talking about steroid tablets or creams? You don't need to be weaned off the creams. Oral steroids are only used for really severe cases of eczema and are totally different to using a low dose steroid ointment like hydrocortisone.
  20. I'm looking for a Friday group too. Miss jb is 12 months and has just started walking. Agree it's a shame about babble and squeak as I think it would be perfect for her now. Please keep the ideas coming . . Or maybe we could start our own!
  21. I was going to suggest godstone park farm too. There is a pub called the bell in the village which does nice food. James- I don't think they let you get quite as close to the animals anymore.
  22. It's a cuddly toy nikki - made by a company called jellycat. Hope you find your bunny soon.
  23. One of my good friends moved there 3 years ago with her then 1 year old son. She was also 3 months pregnant at the time. Overall she's really enjoyed living in hong kong and they don't have any imminent plans to return. Her life is very different - her first home was an apartment on th 64th floor and she has a maid or helper as they call them - which is pretty standard amongst the expat community. Am sure she'd be willing to have a chat or email you. Let me know if you want me to put her in touch with you.
  24. Bb you've given away the most closely guarded secret in east dulwich!
