  1. Yet more Lib Dem stuff thudding through the door at some un-earthly hour of the morning aimed at waking me up. Please, please, please, no more as we have postal votes and have already voted.
  2. Not surprised by this thread and the Lib Dems in particular being hi-lighted for overload of constant literature drop. It's helped me to make up my mind. Expect the recycle guys will be demanding extra money at the moment to shift the extra paper waste.
  3. Maybe someone could just ask the owner for their view on life. And then we can move on to something new. Goodness knows what would happen on this forum if travellers moved on to Goose Green!
  4. Yes etate was built by both Barratt and Wimpey. Key difference is how each chose to do lay out as dimensions are pretty much the same (originally was due to all be built by Wimpey but then sold off about half the estate). Later build tended to have downstairs cloakroom and smaller living room. I lived there for 10 years and always found it a good location with the train and Sainsburys on your doorstep.
  5. We've been down this path before (probably in the archived forum section that is no longer searchable). Yes an offence to have driven onto the pavement but still have to proove he did it. Given the number of helicopters above East Dulwich he might just as easily have dropped it in from above.
  6. Expect it was a scrap metal van doing the rounds. They don't ask, they just take.
  7. So far it has failed my price comparison test - albeit a rather simplistic one. 500gm Shreddies - ?1.50 Morrisons - about ?2.20 at the Co-Op, and 70% Lindt Dark Chocolate ?1.25 Morrisions and ?1.89 Co-Op. But as it is only 2 minutes walk away I guess I'll be using some carbon saving excuse for spending more there.
  8. I wrote to her about 3 weeks ago and still await a reply. Mine was to do with the new law coming in in April that requires planning permission to be obtained in future when renting out a property to 3 or more people sharing.
  9. You may by now have spotted a red Smart car doing the rounds of East Dulwich with a camera sticking out the roof. I was given a demonstration of a similar one last week and they are clever beasts, and could cost you lots of money. They can replace current traffic wardens by simply driving around, logging car number plates and location, and immediately determine if a car is illegally parked on a single or double yellow line. If it is, it links to the DVLA to obtain owner details and a PCN gets issued in the post. It will also hi-light any car parked on the road that has not got an MOT or insurance which is a positive thing.
  10. Just called. Said no and he went away. Wonder if they ever read this forum?
  11. Purely a scam - you could try a different tact and ask for details of the charity and its registration number so that you can take a look in your own time - plus if you then decide to donate money it will mean they get the benefit of being able to claim tax relief. Have found lately that they are becoming more persistent in their sales technique (maybe sales are down due to the recession!) and take twice as long to understand the word "no".
  12. Is this just your road or generally? Would seem strange if generally given most side roads now have signage and raised entrances. I understand Southwark is looking at how the 20mph zones can be policed. Normal speed cameras tend not to work for 20mph zones so likely we will start to see wireless average speed cameras appearing at some point. These have the advantage of catching people who slow down for speed camera and then speed off again. In theory it could clock when you entire a side street, when you re-emerge, the minimum distance you could have driven to that point, time passed, and therefore the minimum speed travelled. If this happens then having an average speed button in your car is quite handy as you can set it when you enter a zone and ensure you don't exit until it gets below 20mph!
  13. I would imagine the majority get broken up immediately as spare parts are in high demand and a lot harder to trace than the entire van.
  14. As most of my work comes from the rail industry I always like to look at these petitions to see how accurate they really are. The website in question is mainly propoganda and I suspect has connections with a wider campaign against FirstGroup that originates from the teamster unions in the States. The reality is that FCC currently runs at a loss. The Thameslink programme is driven by the Department for Transport (DfT). Yes Sir Moir Lockhead does get paid a lot, and yes, he has a hobby - breeding rare cattle. Part of the current problem with loss-making rail franchises is that the subsidy process (referred to as "revenue support") that was created by the DfT to stop them going bust has a number of major failings (and which I'm writing an article about at the moment). I use FCC a lot as I spend several months of the year commuting to London from Kings Lynn, as well as using the newish Thameslink service from Denmark Hill. My observation is that they have struggled since Elaine Holt left, however, this in part has co-incided with the downturn in revenue. Like several other rail companies they have got problems with drivers working weekends. Whether the company was in public or private ownership would probably make no difference here although historically industrial action tends to be more active where a company is under National ownership. On a day-to-day basis, less overhead line problems (Network Rail) and cows on the line (Farmers) would make my life better, as would better communication between Network Rail and FCC about cancellations and early termination of services. On a separate note, Southern (the East Dulwich station operator) is currently advertising for a Commuter representative to take part in its bi-monthly sessions with senior managers. From memory the deadline is 15 January - details can be found on the Southern or Go-Ahead website.

    X Factor

Got very annoyed by two-faceness of Simon Cowell tonight but in hindsight got to admit it was a smart business move to ensure loads of media coverage and the money keeps rolling in.
  16. Not the first time this has happened - the last time they tried to turn the ground into a Homebase. That time Greendale was ruled out as an alternate location for football ground and it was concluded that the level of congestion created by a further development would be too great for the area to sustain. Interesting that the South London Press mentions planning permission granted in 2005. This is news to me as never been consulted about a planning request and would expect to be, together with number of other residents on St Francis estate.
  17. Hi Kay I lived opposite the football ground for 10 years and the only noise problem you tend to get is with the DJ's choice of music pre-match - used to be a bit loud at times but may be quieter these days.
  18. Have pm'd you
  19. Worth checking Hwam - Hwam Monet has a back boiler option but not sure if it is approved for smoke free zone.
  20. I should imagine most parking tickets are issued on Lordship Lane between 4pm and 4.05pm as people often don't realise that parking restrictions kick in after 4pm. The clue is the van load of wardens who arrive at 3.58pm most days.
  21. We have down the telephone line Virgin broadband - the 8mb we subscribe for is lucky if it ever reaches 2mb. 2 years ago we were getting at least 5-6mb but I think Virgin is more interested in getting as many customers as possible rather than thinking about quality of service. The last few days we have also experienced constant outage and having to un-plug/re-plug the modem router to get a signal. Was thinking of moving across to the fibre optic cable - do people using this find they get close to the advertised line speed or does this also suffer from oversupply?
  22. I wondered if it was Springers as I know they have a nice garden out the back. http://www.fleurets.com/on-market/property/march-april-2008/On-market-March-2008.pdfYou need to scroll down to page 19
  23. The best time to see a traffic warden down Lordship Lane is around 4pm (or is it 4.30pm?) weekdays when the 30 minute parking allowance stops. My wife tells me they turn up on mass with split second timing, knowing that there will be plenty of cars caught out by the restriction.
  24. Pressume it's the house being done up by J Eclair's husband. Had a look at the brochure - some interesting design ideas although didn't agree with all of them. With no off street parking and what is a very busy cut-through road I would be surprised if they got as much as ?700k.
  25. Seem to remember that it was the Au Ciel owner a few years back (may have been under different ownership then) that threw a wobbly because a well known "French" cafe in Lordship Lane was selling the same expensive cakes, but at about half the price the Au Ciel had marked them up to. Sadly, to avoid problems for distributor, the Lordship Lane cafe stopped selling them.
