I have the same concerns as several others who were made aware of this earlier today. Not only are they planning on taking down the shops at the front to create an open piazza they are potentially going to clear under the arches where there is a very established community of artists. These professional artists have been there for a long time and have done work with the regeneration. I would be pleased to see a freshening up of the area and welcome some new retail units but not at the expense of diverse community that have been and continue to add cultural and economic contributions which are ploughed back into the community. If we end up with completely new units with higher rents then it is likely the multinational/ chains will be the only ventures that can afford these and it would become another fairly bland high street ( something that happened near the cutty sark) and lose some of the uniqueness of the area.

I not going to join either side on this ( the Public celebration of her her death), however, public figures that do push through policies they know to be so harmful to various groups of society are fair game. It may not appeal to your sense of correctness but probably indicates how her policies affected you. Politicians are fair game at all times, this strange sense of don't speak ill of the dead is misjudged and inappropriate, especially to those for whom the debate about the effect of her policies ( both when put though and their continuing presence) still continues. Not necessarily a celebration, but we should allow a genuine debate about her and the effects she has had. Just because she died doesn't and shouldn't put these things off the agenda

Thank you, I was pretty out of it as in bed off sick today.... Certainly made me move fast when I got the phone call! The younger one was in mild shock so really pale but perked up quickly. They've had worse bruises falling off the sofa so all is well

Just to say thank you to the numerous people my mum said came to her aid this morning when two of my children had a collision with a car. They are absolutely fine , initially a bit shocked and a couple of bruises where they were hit but amazingly that was it. So thanks to all of you, from the taxi driver who collided with them and called the ambulance, to his passenger, a lady called Rachel who helped my mum and the lady that got a seat for my daughter. There may have been others but thank you again Jools x

Breaking bad and game of thrones seem like a good starting point. You obviously have great taste though as we've also watched quite a few of you suggestions as well ;-)

I might be being dim but can't find the changes you mentioned to Highshore road. Is there a map of this and which section? Thanks -
Martins money tips have several bits about budgeting. I think most folk suffer when there are childcare costs. We've made several downgrades over the past few months/ years. No fresh flowers ( though hydrangeas bought at Columbia road that you dry and keep and last 6 months and Orchids that last months allowed instead). Aldi/ lidl great for fresh food. I split shopping so an Asda monthly home delivery for brand and store cupboard stuff then cheap supermarket to fill in with odd trip to nicer places. Make your own lunch, if you have children then buy multipack sweets for treats instead of corner shop, ice creams only once per term. Mine have ice cream weekly but at home with cones. Also, if you are a spender do try what was mentioned earlier of writing down everything you spend. Then tot it up, we all think we treat ourselves occasionally but normally it's more frequent! Personally, my mother in law now gets asked for magazine subscriptions for Christmas as well... There are many ways and they don't necessarily stop you doing nice stuff but probably less often and more careful planning

Spate of burglaries in East Dulwich
JDR replied to EastDulwichRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think we were a near miss tonight. Neighbour had reported suspicious behaviour and police and dogs attened. Potential lookout found but not the person that had lifted out a fence panel to access us via a neighbours garden.... we are Underhill Road past the cemetry towards Melford Road. It appears this is their preferred area.... -
Burglary, Valentine's Day, Crystal Palace Road

I've just posted about prowler found at our house tonight.... no charge able for the lookout as no actual crime commited but signs of people snooping. Neighbours abd police response helped stop anything more serious. At least now the police know who one of the potential culprits is, that's of they didn't know already.... -
Husband came home late tonight, thankfully a little before we came back to find a young man being questionned by the police in front of house. It seems he was very likely to have been a look out as there was evidence that someone had got into our garden via a neighbours garden as a fence panel had been removed. The police sent a van and sniffer dogs but no other person was apprehended and no entry had been made into our home but if it hadn't been for a neighbour reporting odd behaviour of two men we would gave probably been burgled... please be vigilant

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
JDR replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James Just wondering about the council / pcts involvement in GP practices. I kicked up a stink before Christmas about access to appts at DMC and I have seen from the NHS review site patients are now giving this practice an average of 1.5/5 as a score. Is there any contract from the pct regarding standards that they can be held to? I've tried the PCT site and it's hard to find any information but from shear numbers and opinions of users it is not a'sucess. It may be financially sucessful but not for users.... -
There is also one that covers Lewisham on Malham road in the church... We delivered food there on Friday. If you go on their bite they suggest a food list

It depends which end of Anstey. I lived there for 11 years and the end nearer ED quieter....
