  1. Addison Lee all the way. Especially if you find yourself far from home at 4am and in no mood to "haggle" over the fare. Also the text message means you don't have to spend half-an-hour staring out of the window.
  2. AND Snorky, Gavin and Stacey is not crap, its hilarious!
  3. Food-wise we are very lucky in ED, but I guess we are still missing: - Sushi - Dim sum - Good steak - Good mexican - Vietnamese About 6 months ago I was whinging we had no good Italian, but we've now got Locale and the Italian on Forest Hill Road
  4. I'm with Kels on this.. Would love something akin to the Palmerston or Franklins in place of the Mag.
  5. Hi guys, I need to get to Paddington for 8am tomorrow to take a train to Glastonbury. Any ideas how long the No 12 should take from Barry Road to Elephant&Castle? Accoriding to TFL website, this is the least painful way for me to get to Paddington. Thanks!
  6. I've passed through Peckham Rye twice a day for the last 3 years, on the way to and from home in ED. I've never had any problems or seen much that dodgy, but what annoys me on a daily basis is how dirty the area is. Chicken bones litter the floor along with remnants of hair extensions - yuck! Plus the meat markets and fishmongers stink. I wish the people of Peckham took a little more pride in their home!
  7. >> What's the market if I set up a salt beef bagel stand? mmmmm salt beef bagel
  8. I've always thought it a bit strange how many curry houses we have. But I doubt people travel from afar to have a cuzzer in ED. So thankfully no, I don't think ED will become the new brick lane.
  9. Virgin service updates and reported faults can be found here: http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do
  10. We had a similar problem for a few weeks. It seemed to go away in the end, so I never got to the bottom of it. Otherwise the Virgin service has been excellent. We have just upgraded to the 20MB service which is fantasticly quick. BTW, how much do you currently pay? We pay a good ?60 a month, but that includes t'internet, TV, V+ and telephone.
  11. We had problems with Foxes in our last place and the best advice I was given was to fill a super-soaker with water and a little ammonia and spray them with that. Unsurprisingly they weren't very fond of getting that in the face. However unlike the foxes, cats have owners so not sure how appropriate this strategy would be :)
  12. On our visit, the food was good, the wine list excellent, but both food and wine were overpriced. Also the decor inside is very wierd and frankly chav. Why take a beautiful interior and fit it out with Ikea lights and huge plasma TVs???
  13. I consider myself very lucky - I work out of two offices: Victoria (right by the station) and nr. Liverpool Street. The Victoria office is 30 mins door-to-door and Liverpool Street is 45 (thanks to heavy traffic taking the bus from London Bridge).
  14. Thanks Kate, Paloem is definitely on the list - a group of our friends went last year and had a great time staying in the beach huts. Mrs TimTim is something of a foodie too, so will defintiely check out some of those eateries. Is Calangute a bit resorty? Its just that I see there are lots of package holidays there.
  15. oh yeah that blog is hilarious
  16. I took Lariam (mefloquinne) for 6 months in Africa and the side effects can be horrible! Are they still prescribing this, or have things moved on?
  17. ..we're off on hols there for a couple of weeks. Anyone got recommendations for places to visit? Cheers, TimTim
  18. Lived here 5 years, and don't know anyone mugged
  19. James, I think these are "fresh rolls". They typically come with prawns and fresh mint. Lovely. Kat, Best of luck with your venture. If the food is up to the standard of Kingsland road, then I have no doubt that this will be a roaring success.
  20. From the Lib Dem councillors for ED "[in] 2006 East Dulwich has 99.72 crime per thousand population. During 2007 this dropped to 86.16 crimes per thousand. This means we?ve gone from being the 3rd to 2nd best ward for lowest reported crime levels in Southwark." http://jamesbarber.mycouncillor.org.uk/2008/01/28/east-dulwich-crime/
  21. Taxi to City airport is VERY quick (and pretty cheap). Its probably not worth the hassle of public transport in this instance.
  22. The wood yard is a total eyesore! I'll be pleased to see it go!
  23. k-w, I have long suspected it, but good on you for getting the evidence and confronting them with it! The service is so bad in ED that I now have everything sent to my work in the City, or get packages via courier as they seem to do better than the Royal Mail. I recently had 2 disputes open with eBay traders, both who assured me my items had been posted. I got compensation from PayPal, but lo and behold the items showed up a month or so later, postmarked with the date the eBay traders had advised me. Then there were the Big Chill tickets this year - we had to collect them at the site because they never arrived. Apparently this was the case for everyone in SE22!
